1 Случилось так, что некоторое время спустя виночерпий царя египетского и пекарь его провинились перед господином своим, царем египетским.

2 Фараон разгневался на этих двух своих придворных: на главного виночерпия и главного пекаря —

3 и заключил их в ту же самую тюрьму, при доме начальника стражи, где содержался Иосиф.

4 Пробыли они там немало дней, в которые Иосиф, по поручению начальника стражи, прислуживал им.

5 В одну и ту же ночь этим двум заключенным (и виночерпию, и пекарю царя египетского) приснились сны, каждому — свой, со своим особым значением.

6 На следующее утро Иосиф, придя к ним, заметил, что вид у них был мрачный.

7 «Что удручает вас?» — спросил он придворных фараона, которые содержались вместе с ним под стражей в доме его господина.

8 «Мы видели сны, но истолковать их здесь некому», — ответили они ему. «Не от Бога ли истолкования? — возразил Иосиф. — Расскажите их мне».

9 Тогда главный виночерпий рассказал свой сон Иосифу. «Снилось мне, — начал он, — будто передо мной виноградная лоза,

10 а на лозе — три ветви. Едва на них появились почки, как началось цветение, гроздья налились и превратились в спелый виноград.

11 А в руке у меня была чаша фараонова; сорвал я гроздья, выжал в ту чашу и подал ее фараону».

12 Выслушав его, Иосиф сказал: «Вот что это значит: три ветви — это три дня.

13 Пройдет три дня, и фараон проявит милость к тебе — восстановит он тебя в должности твоей. Ты снова станешь подавать чашу фараону, как то было прежде, когда служил ты при нем виночерпием.

14 Вспомни обо мне, когда будешь жить в довольстве и благополучии, и сделай мне одолжение: слово за меня замолви перед фараоном, попроси его о моем освобождении.

15 Меня ведь насильно увезли, похитили из земли народа моего, евреев, и здесь, в Египте, я не сделал ничего такого, чтобы сажать меня в тюрьму».

16 Когда главный пекарь увидел, что истолкование сна оказалось благоприятным, он сказал Иосифу: «А мне приснилось, будто у меня на голове три корзины белого хлеба.

17 В верхней корзине всякая выпечка, какую пекарь обычно готовит для фараона, и птицы клевали ее из корзины прямо у меня на голове».

18 Тогда так сказал ему Иосиф: «Вот что значит этот сон: три корзины — это три дня.

19 Через три дня фараон обезглавит тебя и повесит тебя на дереве, тогда птицы будут клевать твою плоть».

20 Три дня спустя, в день своего рождения, фараон устроил пир для всех придворных своих. В их присутствии он «поднял» головы и главного виночерпия, и главного пекаря.

21 Главного виночерпия фараон восстановил в его должности, и тот снова подавал фараону чашу,

22 а главного пекаря велел повесить. Всё произошло, как и предсказал им Иосиф.

23 Но главный виночерпий не думал об Иосифе и забыл о его просьбе.

Chapter 40

1 AND it came to pass after these things that the chief butler of the king of Egypt and the chief baker had offended their lord the king of Egypt.

2 And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.

3 And he put them into the prison in the house of the commander of the guard, in the ward where Joseph was bound.

4 And the commander of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them; and they remained for some time in the prison.

5 And they both dreamed, each man his own dream in the same night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were bound in the prison.

6 And Joseph came in to them in the morning, and saw them, and behold, they were sad.

7 So he asked Pharaoh's officers who were with him in the prison of his master's house, saying, Why do you look so sad today?

8 And they said to him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no one to interpret it. And Joseph said to them, Behold, the interpretations belong to God; tell them to me.

9 Then the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;

10 And in the vine were three branches; and when it budded, its blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes;

11 And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hands.

12 And Joseph said to him, This is the interpretation of your dream: The three branches are three days;

13 After three days Pharaoh shall remember you and restore you to your position; and you shall give Pharaoh's cup into his hand, as you did before when you were his butler.

14 But remember me when it shall be well with you, and do me a favor and justice, and make mention of me in the presence of Pharaoh, and bring me out of this prison house;

15 For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews; and here also I have done nothing that they should put me into the prison.

16 When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said to Joseph, I also saw in my dream, and, behold. I had three baskets containing white bread on my head;

17 And in the uppermost basket there was of every kind of food for Pharaoh, prepared by a baker; and the birds of prey were eating it out of the basket on my head.

18 And Joseph answered and said to him, This is the interpretation of your dream: The three baskets are three days;

19 After three days Pharaoh shall have you beheaded, and then shall crucify you on a tree, and the birds of prey shall eat your flesh from off you.

20 And it came to pass on the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a banquet for all his servants; and he remembered the chief butler and the chief baker among his servants.

21 And he restored the chief butler to his position; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hands:

22 But he crucified the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them.

23 Yet the chief butler did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.

2 And Pharaoh was wroth against two of his officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.

3 And he put them into the prison in the house of the commander of the guard, in the ward where Joseph was bound.

4 Пробыли они там немало дней, в которые Иосиф, по поручению начальника стражи, прислуживал им.

4 And the commander of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them; and they remained for some time in the prison.

5 В одну и ту же ночь этим двум заключенным (и виночерпию, и пекарю царя египетского) приснились сны, каждому — свой, со своим особым значением.

5 And they both dreamed, each man his own dream in the same night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were bound in the prison.

6 На следующее утро Иосиф, придя к ним, заметил, что вид у них был мрачный.

6 And Joseph came in to them in the morning, and saw them, and behold, they were sad.

7 «Что удручает вас?» — спросил он придворных фараона, которые содержались вместе с ним под стражей в доме его господина.

7 So he asked Pharaoh's officers who were with him in the prison of his master's house, saying, Why do you look so sad today?

8 «Мы видели сны, но истолковать их здесь некому», — ответили они ему. «Не от Бога ли истолкования? — возразил Иосиф. — Расскажите их мне».

8 And they said to him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no one to interpret it. And Joseph said to them, Behold, the interpretations belong to God; tell them to me.

9 Тогда главный виночерпий рассказал свой сон Иосифу. «Снилось мне, — начал он, — будто передо мной виноградная лоза,

9 Then the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;

10 And in the vine were three branches; and when it budded, its blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes;

11 And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hands.

12 Выслушав его, Иосиф сказал: «Вот что это значит: три ветви — это три дня.

12 And Joseph said to him, This is the interpretation of your dream: The three branches are three days;

13 Пройдет три дня, и фараон проявит милость к тебе — восстановит он тебя в должности твоей. Ты снова станешь подавать чашу фараону, как то было прежде, когда служил ты при нем виночерпием.

13 After three days Pharaoh shall remember you and restore you to your position; and you shall give Pharaoh's cup into his hand, as you did before when you were his butler.

14 Вспомни обо мне, когда будешь жить в довольстве и благополучии, и сделай мне одолжение: слово за меня замолви перед фараоном, попроси его о моем освобождении.

14 But remember me when it shall be well with you, and do me a favor and justice, and make mention of me in the presence of Pharaoh, and bring me out of this prison house;

15 Меня ведь насильно увезли, похитили из земли народа моего, евреев, и здесь, в Египте, я не сделал ничего такого, чтобы сажать меня в тюрьму».

19 After three days Pharaoh shall have you beheaded, and then shall crucify you on a tree, and the birds of prey shall eat your flesh from off you.

20 Три дня спустя, в день своего рождения, фараон устроил пир для всех придворных своих. В их присутствии он «поднял» головы и главного виночерпия, и главного пекаря.

20 And it came to pass on the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a banquet for all his servants; and he remembered the chief butler and the chief baker among his servants.

21 Главного виночерпия фараон восстановил в его должности, и тот снова подавал фараону чашу,

21 And he restored the chief butler to his position; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hands:

22 а главного пекаря велел повесить. Всё произошло, как и предсказал им Иосиф.

22 But he crucified the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them.

23 Но главный виночерпий не думал об Иосифе и забыл о его просьбе.

23 Yet the chief butler did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.
