Глава 25

1 Вот еще притчи Соломона, записанные слугами Езекии, царя Иудеи.

2 За премудрость сокрытую — Богу слава, за справедливое расследование — слава царю.

3 Как высота небес и глубины земли, так и сердце царя неисследимо.

4 Очисти серебро от окалины — и выйдет сосуд у золотых дел мастера.

5 Удали нечестивцев от лица царя — и престол его справедливостью укрепится.

6 Не восхваляй себя перед царем, средь великих не стремись занять место.

7 Лучше, если скажут тебе: «Поднимись к нам», чем унизят тебя перед вельможей каким. Если и увидел ты нечто своими глазами, что задело тебя,

8 не спеши затевать суд, а иначе, что станешь делать, если сосед твой тебя опозорит?

9 Даже если ты и затеял тяжбу с соседом, чужых секретов не выдавай,

10 чтобы не обесславил тебя услышавший это и не разнеслась о тебе худая молва.

11 Слово, вовремя сказанное, — что золотые яблоки в серебряной оправе.

12 Золотая серьга, украшенье из чистого золота — мудрый обличитель для чуткого уха.

13 Что прохлада от снега в страду — надежный вестник для тех, кто его отправил; он ободрит душу своего господина.

14 Облака и ветер, а дождя всё нет — так и тот, кто подарки попусту наобещал.

15 Выдержку выказывая, убедишь и правителя, ласковая речь и кость сокрушит.

16 Если нашел мед, ешь его в меру, а иначе пресытишься и тебя стошнит.

17 Не ходи часто в дом друга своего, чтобы не надоел ты ему и не стал ему ненавистен.

18 Палица, меч и острая стрела — таков лжесвидетель против ближнего своего.

19 Что сломанный зуб или нога хромая — то надежда на вероломного в день бедствия.

20 Как в стужу одежды лишиться, как уксус лить на рану — так и песни петь тому, чье сердце в горе.

21 Если твой враг голоден — накорми его хлебом, если жаждет — дай воды напиться.

22 Так поступая, горящие угли сыплешь ты ему на голову, и ГОСПОДЬ воздаст тебе.

23 Северный ветер родит дождь, язык злоречивый — гнев на лицах.

24 Лучше на самом краю крыши ютиться, чем жить в просторном доме со сварливой женой.

25 Как вода студеная для пересохшего горла — так и добрая весть из дальней страны.

26 Замутненный родник, затоптанный источник — таков праведник, что отступает перед нечестивцем.

27 Нехорошо объедаться медом, нехорошо без конца домогаться почестей.

28 Поверженный город без стен крепостных — таков человек, не владеющий собой.
