Chapter 39

1 AND Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, commander of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Arabians who had brought him down there.

2 And the LORD was with Joseph, and he became a prosperous man in the house of his master, the Egyptian.

3 And his master saw that the LORD was with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper under his hands.

4 And Joseph found favor in his sight, and served him; and he made him steward of his house, and all that he had he put in his charge.

5 And it came to pass from the time that he had made him steward of his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had both in the house and in the field.

6 And he left all that he had in Joseph's charge; and he did not know what he had, except the food that he ate. And Joseph was very handsome and pleasant to look at.

7 And it came to pass after these things that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said to him, Lie with me.

8 But he refused, and said to his master's wife, Behold, my master does not know what he has in the house, and he has put everything that he has in my charge;

9 There is no one greater in this house than I; neither has he kept back anything from me except yourself, because you are his wife; how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

10 And it came to pass, as she spoke to him daily, he did not listen to her, to lie with her, or to be with her.

11 And it came to pass one day that Joseph went in to the house to do his work; and none of the men of the household were there in the house.

12 And she caught him by his garment, and said to him, Lie with me; but he left the garment in her hands, and fled, and got out to the street.

13 And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hands, and had fled out to the street,

14 She called to the men of her household, and said to them, See, he has brought in a Hebrew servant to us to disgrace us; he came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice;

15 And when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried aloud, he left his garment in my hands, and fled, and got out to the street.

16 And she laid up his garment by her, until his master came home.

17 And she spoke to him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant whom you brought to us, came in to disgrace me;

18 But as I lifted up my voice and cried aloud, he left his garment in my hands, and fled, and got out to the street.

19 And when the master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke to him, saying, After this manner did your servant to me; his wrath was kindled.

20 And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were confined; and he remained there in the prison.

21 But the LORD was with Joseph, and showed him mercy, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.

22 And the keeper of the prison intrusted to Joseph's care all the prisoners who were in the prison; and he was in charge of whatever they did there.

23 The keeper of the prison did not look to anything that was in Joseph's charge, because the LORD was with him, and whatever he did, the LORD made it to prosper.

4 И снискал4672 Иосиф3130 благоволение2580 в очах5869 его и служил8334 ему. И он поставил его над6485 домом1004 своим, и все, что имел,3426 отдал5414 на руки3027 его.

5 И с того времени,227 как он поставил его над6485 домом1004 своим и над всем, что имел,3426 Господь3068 благословил1288 дом1004 Египтянина4713 ради1558 Иосифа,3130 и было благословение1293 Господне3068 на всем, что имел3426 он в доме1004 и в поле.7704

6 И оставил5800 он все, что имел, в руках3027 Иосифа3130 и не знал3045 при нем ничего,3972 кроме518 хлеба,3899 который он ел.398 Иосиф3130 же был красив8389 станом8389 и красив3303 лицем.4758

15 и он, услышав,8085 что я подняла7311 вопль6963 и закричала,7121 оставил5800 у меня681 одежду899 свою, и побежал,5127 и выбежал3318 вон.2351

17 И пересказала1696 ему те же слова,1697 говоря:559 раб5650 Еврей,5680 которого ты привел935 к нам, приходил935 ко мне ругаться6711 надо мною.

18 Но, когда я подняла7311 вопль6963 и закричала,7121 он оставил5800 у меня681 одежду899 свою и убежал5127 вон.2351

19 Когда господин113 его услышал8085 слова1697 жены802 своей, которые она сказала1696 ему, говоря:559 так1697 поступил6213 со мною раб5650 твой, то воспылал2734 гневом;639

5 And it came to pass from the time that he had made him steward of his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian's house for Joseph's sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had both in the house and in the field.

6 And he left all that he had in Joseph's charge; and he did not know what he had, except the food that he ate. And Joseph was very handsome and pleasant to look at.

14 She called to the men of her household, and said to them, See, he has brought in a Hebrew servant to us to disgrace us; he came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice;

18 But as I lifted up my voice and cried aloud, he left his garment in my hands, and fled, and got out to the street.

19 And when the master heard the words of his wife, which she spoke to him, saying, After this manner did your servant to me; his wrath was kindled.

20 And Joseph's master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king's prisoners were confined; and he remained there in the prison.

21 But the LORD was with Joseph, and showed him mercy, and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison.
