Chapter 12

1 AND the LORD spoke to Moses and said to him,

2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, If a woman have conceived and bear a male child, then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of her menstruation she shall be unclean.

3 And on the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.

4 And she shall continue for thirty-three days in the blood of her purifying; she shall touch no hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purifying be fulfilled.

5 But if she bears a female child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her menstruation; and she shall continue in the blood of her purifying for sixty-six days.

6 And when the days of her purifying are fulfilled for a son or for a daughter, she shall bring a lamb of the first year for a burnt offering and a young pigeon or a turtledove for a sin offering to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to the priest;

7 And he shall offer it before the LORD and make an atonement for her; and she shall be cleansed from the issue of her blood. This is the law for her who has borne a male child or a female.

8 And if she cannot afford a lamb, then she shall bring two pigeons or two young turtledoves; the one for the sin offering and the other for the burnt offering; and the priest shall make an atonement for her and she shall be clean.

1 Господь обратился к Моисею с такими словами:

2 «Скажи народу Израиля: если женщина родит младенца мужского пола, то она будет нечиста семь дней, как и в дни месячных.

3 На восьмой день младенец мужского пола должен пройти обрезание.

4 Через тридцать три дня она очистится от потери крови. Она не должна прикасаться ни к чему святому и не должна приходить к святилищу во все дни своего очищения.

5 Но если женщина родит девочку, то мать будет нечиста две недели, как и при её месячных, и будет очищаться от потери крови шестьдесят шесть дней.

6 Когда время очищения окончится, она должна принести в шатёр собрания особую жертву. Она должна принести к входу в скинию собрания однолетнего ягнёнка в жертву всесожжения и молодого голубя или горлицу в жертву за грех и отдать их священнику.

7 Если женщина не может позволить себе привести ягнёнка, то пусть принесёт двух молодых голубей или двух горлиц: одну птицу в жертву всесожжения, а другую — в жертву за грех. Священник принесёт их перед Господом и так очистит женщину, и тогда она станет чиста от потери крови. Таковы правила для женщины, родившей младенца мужского или женского пола».

7 Если женщина не может позволить себе привести ягнёнка, то пусть принесёт двух молодых голубей или двух горлиц: одну птицу в жертву всесожжения, а другую — в жертву за грех. Священник принесёт их перед Господом и так очистит женщину, и тогда она станет чиста от потери крови. Таковы правила для женщины, родившей младенца мужского или женского пола».
