Chapter 41

1 AND it came to pass, two years later, Pharaoh dreamed; and he was standing by the river.

2 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven beautiful and fat cows; and they fed in a meadow.

3 And, behold, seven other cows came up after them out of the river, ill-favored and lean; and stood beside the other cows on the bank of the river.

4 And the ill-favored and lean cows ate up the seven beautiful and fat cows. So Pharaoh awoke.

5 And he slept and dreamed a second time; and, behold, seven ears of grain were growing on a single stalk, rank and good.

6 And, behold, seven thin ears blasted by the east wind, sprang up after them.

7 And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.

8 And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; so he sent and called for all the magicians and all the wise men of Egypt; and Pharaoh told them his dreams; but there was no man who could interpret them to Pharaoh.

9 Then the chief butler spoke in the presence of Pharaoh, and said, I will mention my offense today;

10 Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me in the prison in the commander of the guard's house, both me and the chief baker;

11 And we dreamed dreams in the same night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.

12 And there was with us a young man, a Hebrew, a servant of the commander of the guard; and we told him our dreams, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.

13 And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; I was restored to my position, and he was crucified.

14 Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon; and he shaved himself, and changed his clothes, and came in before Pharaoh.

15 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it; and I have heard concerning you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.

16 And Joseph answered and said to Pharaoh, Do you think, perhaps, that without God I am able to give Pharaoh an answer that everything will be well?

17 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, In my dream I was standing on the bank of the river;

18 And, behold, there came up out of the river seven fat and beautiful cows; and they fed in a meadow;

19 And, behold, seven other cows came up after them, poor and ill-favored and lean. I had never seen such ill-favored cows in all the land of Egypt.

20 And the lean and ill-favored cows ate up the first seven fat cows;

21 And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them: for they were still ill-favored, as at the beginning. Then I awoke.

22 And again, I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears of grain growing on one stalk, full and good;

23 And, behold, seven other ears, thin and blasted by the east wind, sprang up after them;

24 And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears; and I told this to the magicians; but there was no one who could interpret these dreams to me.

25 And Joseph said to Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one; God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do.

26 The seven good cows are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years; the dream is one.

27 And the seven lean and ill-favored cows that came up after them are seven years; and the seven thin ears blasted by the east wind shall be seven years of famine.

28 It is the thing which I told Pharaoh; what God is about to do he has shown to Pharaoh.

29 Behold. there are coming seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt;

30 And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;

31 And the plenty shall not be remembered in the land because of the famine which shall follow; for it shall be very severe.

32 And as for that the dream was repeated to Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is already prepared by God, and God will hasten to bring it to pass.

33 Now therefore let Pharaoh find a discreet and wise man, and appoint him an overseer over the land of Egypt.

34 Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land of Egypt to take the fifth part of the produce of the land of Egypt during the seven plenteous years.

35 And let them gather all the wheat of these good years that are coming, and store up the grain under the authority of Pharaoh, and let them keep the grain in the towns.

36 And let the grain be kept for the land against the seven years of famine which shall come in the land of Egypt; so that the land may not perish through the famine.

37 And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.

38 And Pharaoh said to his servants, Can we find such a man as this, in whom the Spirit of God is?

39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph. Forasmuch as God has shown you all this, there is none so wise and discreet as you are:

40 You shall be over my household, and according to your word shall all my people be ruled; only on the throne will I be greater than you.

41 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, See, I have made you governor over all the land of Egypt.

42 Then Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it on Joseph's hand, and arrayed him in robes of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck:

43 And he made him to ride in another chariot which belonged to him; and they cried before him, Father and governor! Thus he made him governor over all the land of Egypt.

44 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I Pharaoh have commanded that without your orders no man shall undertake anything in all the land of Egypt.

45 Then Pharaoh called Joseph's name Zaphnath-paaneah (because the hidden things were revealed to him); and he gave him to wife Asiath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On. And Joseph went throughout all the land of Egypt.

46 And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

47 And in the seven plenteous years the land brought forth abundantly.

48 And he gathered up all the grain of the seven plenteous years which were in the land of Egypt, and stored up the grain in towns; the grain of the fields which was round about every town he stored in the same.

49 And Joseph stored up grain as the sand of the sea, very much, until he was tired of numbering it; for it was without number.

50 And to Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, whom Asiath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bore to him.

51 And Joseph called the name of his first-born Manasseh; For God, said he, has made me forget all my troubles, and all my father's house.

52 And the name of the second he called Ephraim; For God has made me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.

53 And the seven years of plenty that were in the land of Egypt came to an end.

54 And the seven years of famine began to come, according as Joseph had said; and there was famine in all lands; and in all the land of Egypt there was no bread.

55 And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people complained against Pharaoh because of the lack of bread; and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, Go to Joseph; and what he says to you, do.

56 And the famine was over all the face of the land, and Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold to the Egyptians;

57 And the famine was severe in the land of Egypt. And the people from all lands came to Egypt to Joseph to buy grain; because the famine was severe in all lands.

15 Фараон сказал Юсуфу: – Мне приснился сон, и никто не может его истолковать. Но я слышал о тебе, что ты понимаешь сны и умеешь толковать их.

16 Юсуф ответил: – Не я, но Всевышний даст фараону ответ во благо.

17 Фараон сказал Юсуфу: – Мне снилось, что я стою на берегу Нила,

18 и вдруг из реки поднялись семь коров, жирных и гладких, и стали пастись в тростниках.

19 Вслед за ними поднялись семь других коров – костлявых, худых и таких безобразных, каких я никогда прежде не видел во всей земле египетской.

20 Тощие, безобразные коровы пожрали семь жирных коров, которые вышли первыми.

21 Но это не пошло им впрок: они остались такими же безобразными, как и прежде. Тут я проснулся.

22 Потом я видел во сне семь колосьев на одном стебле, полных доброго зерна.

23 Вслед за ними выросли другие семь колосьев – сухие, тощие и опалённые восточным ветром.

24 Тощие колосья проглотили семь полных колосьев. Я рассказал чародеям, но никто не смог дать мне объяснение.

25 Юсуф сказал фараону: – Смысл обоих снов фараона один. Всевышний открыл фараону, что Он собирается сделать.

26 Семь хороших коров – это семь лет, и семь хороших колосьев – это семь лет; смысл тот же.

27 Семь худых, безобразных коров, которые пришли следом, – это семь лет, и так же – семь тощих колосьев, опалённых восточным ветром, – это семь лет голода.

28 Вот что я имел в виду, когда сказал фараону, что Всевышний открыл ему Свои замыслы.

29 В земле египетской наступают семь лет великого изобилия,

30 а за ними последуют семь лет голода, когда всё изобилие в Египте будет забыто, и голод опустошит землю.

31 Прежнее изобилие забудется в этой земле из-за голода, который последует за ним, потому что голод будет жестокий.

32 А то, что сон повторился фараону дважды, означает, что Всевышний твёрдо определил это и вскоре исполнит Свой замысел.

33 Пусть же фараон найдёт проницательного и мудрого человека и поставит его над землёй Египта.

34 Пусть фараон назначит чиновников по всей стране, чтобы они собирали пятую часть урожая в Египте в те семь лет изобилия.

40 Я ставлю тебя над моим домом, и весь мой народ будет слушаться твоих приказов. Только троном я буду выше тебя.

41 Фараон сказал Юсуфу: – Смотри, я ставлю тебя над всей землёй Египта.

42 Он снял с пальца свой перстень и надел на палец Юсуфу, он одел его в одежды из тонкого полотна и повесил ему на шею золотую цепь.

43 Он велел возить его в колеснице как второго после себя и кричать перед ним: «Дорогу!» Так он поставил его над всей землёй Египта.

44 Фараон сказал Юсуфу: – Я фараон, но без твоего слова никто во всём Египте не посмеет и пальцем шевельнуть.

45 Он дал Юсуфу имя Цафнат-Панеах и отдал ему в жёны Асенефу, дочь Потифера, жреца города Она. . И Юсуф отправился в путь по всей египетской земле. .

26 The seven good cows are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years; the dream is one.

27 And the seven lean and ill-favored cows that came up after them are seven years; and the seven thin ears blasted by the east wind shall be seven years of famine.

28 It is the thing which I told Pharaoh; what God is about to do he has shown to Pharaoh.

29 Behold. there are coming seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt;

48 Юсуф собирал весь урожай тех семи лет изобилия в Египте и складывал его в городах; в каждом городе он складывал урожай с окрестных полей.

49 And Joseph stored up grain as the sand of the sea, very much, until he was tired of numbering it; for it was without number.

49 Собранного Юсуфом зерна было так много, как песка в море, и он перестал вести ему счёт, потому что сосчитать его было невозможно.

50 And to Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, whom Asiath the daughter of Potipherah priest of On bore to him.

50 Прежде чем пришли годы голода, у Юсуфа родились два сына от Асенефы, дочери Потифера, жреца города Она.

51 And Joseph called the name of his first-born Manasseh; For God, said he, has made me forget all my troubles, and all my father's house.

52 And the name of the second he called Ephraim; For God has made me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.

52 Второго сына он назвал Ефраим («быть плодовитым»), сказав: «Это потому, что Всевышний сделал меня плодовитым в земле моего страдания».

53 And the seven years of plenty that were in the land of Egypt came to an end.

53 Семь лет изобилия в Египте подошли к концу,

54 And the seven years of famine began to come, according as Joseph had said; and there was famine in all lands; and in all the land of Egypt there was no bread.

54 и начались семь лет голода, как Юсуф и предсказал. Голод был во всех других землях, только в земле Египта была пища.

55 And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people complained against Pharaoh because of the lack of bread; and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, Go to Joseph; and what he says to you, do.

55 Когда весь Египет начал голодать, люди взмолились к фараону о пище, и фараон сказал египтянам: – Идите к Юсуфу и делайте, как он скажет.

56 And the famine was over all the face of the land, and Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold to the Egyptians;

56 Когда голод распространился по всей стране, Юсуф открыл склады и стал продавать зерно египтянам, потому что голод в Египте был жестокий.

57 And the famine was severe in the land of Egypt. And the people from all lands came to Egypt to Joseph to buy grain; because the famine was severe in all lands.

57 И из всех стран приходили в Египет, чтобы купить у Юсуфа зерна, потому что по всему миру был жестокий голод.
