Proverbs

Chapter 19

1 BETTER is the poor man who walks in his integrity than the rich man who is perverse in his ways.

2 He who has no knowledge of his own soul, it is not good for him; and he who is hasty with his feet sins.

3 The folly of a man perverts his ways; he frets in his heart against the LORD.

4 Wealth makes many friends; but a poor man is deserted by his friends.

5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he who speaks lies shall not escape.

6 Many serve in the presence of a prince; he gives gifts even to those who are bad.

7 All the brothers of the poor hate him; also his friends go far from him. He who makes mischief with his words is insincere.

8 He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; he who keeps faithfulness shall find good.

9 A false witness shall not be unpunished; and he who speaks lies shall perish.

10 To live in luxury is not fitting for a fool; much less is it seemly for a servant to rule over princes.

11 The discretion of a man is shown by his patience; he glories when his iniquity is removed.

12 The king's wrath is like the roaring of a lion; but his favor is like dew upon grass.

13 A foolish son is a disgrace to his father; and the contentions of a wife are like drippings.

14 House and riches are the inheritance from fathers; but a wife is betrothed to a man from the LORD.

15 Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep; and a proud man shall suffer hunger.

16 He who keeps the law keeps his own soul; but he who despises right ways shall die.

17 He who has pity upon the poor is a companion of the LORD; and he shall be repaid according to his works.

18 Chasten your son while there is hope, and let not your soul share his dishonor.

19 A man of great wrath shall suffer harm; the more he is hostile the more he increases his burden.

20 Hear counsel and receive instruction that you may be wise in your ways.

21 There are many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD shall stand firm.

22 The longing of a man is to do good; and a poor man is better than a rich man who lies.

23 Reverence for the LORD leads to life; and he who is satisfied with it shall abide; he shall not be visited with evil.

24 A sluggard hides his hands in his bosom and will not even try to bring them to his mouth again.

25 When an evil man is scourged, a wise man takes heed; and when a wise man is reproved, he will gain understanding.

26 He who plunders his father and grieves his mother is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.

27 Wait, my son, and hear the instruction, and do not forget the words of knowledge.

28 An ungodly witness scorns justice; and the mouth of the wicked devours him.

29 Grief is prepared for those who scoff at justice, and a scourge for foolish people.

1 Лучше бедняк, что живет непорочно, чем глупец с языком лживым.

2 Скверно дерзать без знаний, а суетливые ноги оступятся.

3 Собственная глупость сбивает человека с пути, а он на ГОСПОДА негодует.

4 Богатство приманивает многих друзей, а бедный даже близким своим покинут.

5 Не останется безнаказанным лжесвидетель, и человек, извергающий ложь, не спасется.

6 Перед знатными заискивают многие, и щедрому на подарки — всякий друг.

7 Бедняк даже братьям своим ненавистен, а уж друзья и подавно его избегают; торопится он слово сказать — а некому.

8 Тот, кто приобретает разум, дорожит своей жизнью, и кто сохраняет здравомыслие, обретет благополучие.

9 Не останется безнаказанным лжесвидетель, и человек, извергающий ложь, погибнет.

10 Не пристало глупцу жить в роскоши, тем более рабу — править владыками.

11 Разумный не спешит гневаться, и хвала тому, кто умеет прощать обиды.

12 Гнев царя — словно львиный рев, милость его — словно роса для иссохшей травы.

13 Глупый сын — бедствие своего отца, сварливая жена — что протекающая крыша.

14 Дом и богатство — наследство от родителей, а разумная жена — дар от ГОСПОДА.

15 Лень погружает в беспробудный сон, и нерадивый будет голодать.

16 Кто заповеди хранит — сохранит и жизнь: кому ненавистно слово Господне — тот погибнет.

17 Кто подает милостыню нищему — тот ГОСПОДУ дает взаймы. Он и воздаст ему за добрые дела.

18 Наказывай сына, пока еще есть надежда, не будь причастен к его смерти.

19 Пусть своенравный поплатится; если ты вызволишь его из беды, то еще не раз придется это делать.

20 Слушай советы, внимай наставленьям — и постепенно станешь мудрым.

21 В сердце человека — множество замыслов, но быть тому, что ГОСПОДЬ предназначил.

22 Алчность обрекает человека на позор, лучше быть бедным, чем лжецом.

23 Благоговенье пред ГОСПОДОМ дарует жизнь человеку; он засыпает сытым, и зло его не коснется.

24 Запустит лентяй руку в чашку, а до рта донести еду не в силах.

25 Побьешь человека бесстыдного — простаки образумятся, обличишь разумного — он умнее станет.

26 Кто отца своего разорит и мать прогонит — тот бессовестный и бесчестный сын.

27 Сын мой! Перестанешь внимать наставлению — и заблудишься, пропадешь без слов мудрости.

28 Свидетели нечестивые над правосудием глумятся, а уста порочные поглощают одно беззаконие.

29 Припасены для бесстыдного плети и побои — для спин глупцов.
