Jeremiah

Chapter 12

1 Righteous6662 are you, O LORD,3068 when3588 I plead7378 with you: yet389 let me talk1696 with you of your judgments:4941 Why4069 does the way1870 of the wicked7563 prosper?6743 why are all3605 they happy7951 that deal very899 treacherously?898

2 You have planted5193 them, yes,1571 they have taken root:8327 they grow,3212 yes,1571 they bring6213 forth6213 fruit:6529 you are near7138 in their mouth,6310 and far7350 from their reins.3629

3 But you, O LORD,3068 know3045 me: you have seen7200 me, and tried974 my heart3820 toward854 you: pull5423 them out like sheep6629 for the slaughter,2873 and prepare6942 them for the day3117 of slaughter.2028

4 How5704 long5704 shall the land776 mourn,56 and the herbs6212 of every3605 field7704 wither,3001 for the wickedness7451 of them that dwell3427 therein? the beasts929 are consumed,5595 and the birds;5775 because3588 they said,559 He shall not see7200 our last319 end.

5 If3588 you have run7323 with the footmen,7273 and they have wearied3811 you, then how349 can you contend8474 with horses?5483 and if in the land776 of peace,7965 wherein you trusted,982 they wearied you, then how349 will you do6213 in the swelling1347 of Jordan?3383

6 For even1571 your brothers,251 and the house1004 of your father,1 even1571 they have dealt treacherously898 with you; yes,1571 they have called7121 a multitude4392 after310 you: believe539 them not, though3588 they speak1696 fair2896 words to you.

7 I have forsaken5800 my house,1004 I have left5203 my heritage;5159 I have given5414 the dearly beloved3033 of my soul5315 into the hand3709 of her enemies.341

8 My heritage5159 is to me as a lion738 in the forest;3293 it cries5414 6963 out against5921 me: therefore5921 3651 have I hated8130 it.

9 My heritage5159 is to me as a speckled6641 bird,5861 the birds5861 round5439 about are against5921 her; come3212 you, assemble622 all3605 the beasts2416 of the field,7704 come857 to devour.402

10 Many7227 pastors7462 have destroyed7843 my vineyard,3754 they have trodden947 my portion2513 under foot,947 they have made5414 my pleasant2532 portion2513 a desolate8077 wilderness.4057

11 They have made7760 it desolate,8074 and being desolate8077 it mourns56 to me; the whole3605 land776 is made desolate,8074 because3588 no369 man376 lays7760 it to heart.3820

12 The spoilers7703 are come935 on all3605 high8205 places through the wilderness:4057 for the sword2719 of the LORD3068 shall devour398 from the one end7097 of the land776 even to the other end7097 of the land:776 no369 flesh1320 shall have peace.7965

13 They have sown2232 wheat,2406 but shall reap7114 thorns:6975 they have put themselves to pain,2470 but shall not profit:3276 and they shall be ashamed954 of your revenues8393 because of the fierce2740 anger639 of the LORD.3068

14 Thus3541 said559 the LORD3068 against5921 all3605 my evil7451 neighbors,7934 that touch5060 the inheritance5159 which834 I have caused my people5971 Israel3478 to inherit;5157 Behold,2005 I will pluck5428 them out of their land,127 and pluck5428 out the house1004 of Judah3063 from among8432 them.

15 And it shall come1961 to pass, after310 that I have plucked5428 them out I will return,7725 and have compassion7355 on them, and will bring7725 them again,7725 every man376 to his heritage,5159 and every man376 to his land.776

16 And it shall come1961 to pass, if518 they will diligently learn3925 the ways1870 of my people,5971 to swear7650 by my name,8034 The LORD3068 lives;2416 as they taught3925 my people5971 to swear7650 by Baal;1168 then shall they be built1129 in the middle8432 of my people.5971

17 But if518 they will not obey,8085 I will utterly pluck5428 up and destroy6 that nation,1471 said5002 the LORD.3068

Chapter 12

1 RIGHTEOUS art thou. O LORD, when I plead with thee; yet let me talk of justice before thee. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why are all the treacherous men rich?

2 Thou hast planted them; yea, their roots have become strong; they grow, they bring forth fruit; thou art near in their mouth, and far from their hearts.

3 But thou, O LORD, knowest me; thou hast seen me and tried my heart before thee; prepare them like sheep for the slaughter, and invite them for the day of destruction.

4 How long shall the land mourn and all herbs of the field wither for the wickedness of those who dwell therein? The cattle and the birds are consumed because wicked men have said, We shall not see an end.

5 If you have run with footmen, and they have wearied you, then how can you run with horses? And if on the level land, where you have confidence, they have wearied you, then how will you cross the raging Jordan?

6 For since your brethren and the house of your father, even they have dealt treacherously against you; yea, they also have gossiped about you; believe them not when they speak well of you.

7 I have forsaken my house, I have left my heritage; I have given the dearly beloved of my soul into the hand of her enemies.

8 My heritage has become to me as a lion in the forest; it cries out against me; therefore I have hated it.

9 My heritage has become to me as a speckled bird, the birds round about are against her; go, assemble all the wild beasts of the field, bring them to devour her.

10 Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard, they have trodden my portion under foot, they have made my pleasant portion as a desolate wilderness.

11 They have made it desolate and destroyed it, and now being desolate, it cries out to me; the whole land is made desolate, because no man lays the law to heart.

12 The robbers are come upon all highways in the wilderness; for the sword of the LORD devours from one end of the land even to the other: no flesh shall have peace.

13 They have sown wheat, but they shall reap thorns; they have labored hard, but they shall not profit; and they shall be ashamed of their crops because of the fierce anger of the LORD.

14 Thus says the LORD: Against all neighboring shepherds, who touch the inheritance which I have given to my people Israel to possess; behold, I will remove them out of their land, and pluck out the house of Judah from among them.

15 And after I have plucked them out I will return, and have compassion on them, and will bring them again, every man to his heritage and every man to his land.

16 And it shall come to pass, if they will diligently teach my ways to my people, to swear by my name, As the LORD lives (as they taught them to swear by the name of Baal), then they shall dwell in the midst of my people.

17 But if they will not obey, then I will utterly pluck up and destroy this people, says the LORD.
