4 Da rief7121 Josua3091 zwölf6240 Männer376, die verordnet waren von den Kindern1121 Israel3478, aus jeglichem259 Stamm7626 einen376,

5 und3091 sprach559 zu ihnen: Gehet5674 hinüber vor die Lade727 des HErrn3068, eures Gottes430, mitten8432 in den Jordan3383, und376 hebe7311 ein259 jeglicher einen Stein68 auf6440 seine Achsel7926, nach der Zahl4557 der Stämme7626 der Kinder1121 Israel3478,

6 daß sie559 ein Zeichen226 seien unter7130 euch. Wenn eure Kinder1121 hernachmals ihre Väter fragen7592 werden und sprechen: Was tun diese Steine68 da?

7 daß ihr dann ihnen saget, wie das3772 Wasser4325 des Jordans3383 abgerissen sei vor6440 der Lade727 des Bundes1285 des HErrn3068, da sie559 durch den Jordan3383 ging5674, daß diese Steine68 den Kindern1121 Israel3478 ein ewig5769 Gedächtnis2146 seien.

8 Da taten die Kinder1121 Israel3478, wie ihnen Josua3091 geboten hatte6680, und trugen6213 zwölf6240 Steine68 mitten8432 aus dem Jordan3383, wie der HErr3068 zu Josua3091 gesagt hatte1696, nach der Zahl4557 der Stämme7626 der Kinder1121 Israel3478, und brachten5375 sie mit sich hinüber in5674 die Herberge4411 und ließen3240 sie daselbst.

9 Und3548 Josua3091 richtete zwölf6240 Steine68 auf6965 mitten8432 im Jordan3383, da die Füße7272 der Priester gestanden waren4673, die die Lade727 des Bundes1285 trugen; und sind noch daselbst bis auf5375 diesen Tag3117.

10 Denn die Priester, die die Lade727 trugen5375, stunden mitten8432 im Jordan3383, bis daß alles ausgerichtet ward8552, das1697 der HErr3068 Josua3091 geboten6680 hatte5975, dem Volk5971 zu sagen1696; wie denn Mose4872 Josua3091 geboten hatte6680. Und3548 das Volk5971 eilete und ging5674 hinüber.

11 Da nun das Volk5971 ganz hinübergegangen war8552, da ging5674 die Lade727 des HErrn3068 auch hinüber5674, und3548 die Priester vor6440 dem Volk5971 her.

12 Und1121 die Rubeniter7205 und1121 Gaditer1410 und der halbe2677 Stamm7626 Manasse4519 gingen5674 gerüstet2571 vor6440 den Kindern1121 Israel3478 her, wie Mose4872 zu ihnen geredet hatte1696.

13 Bei vierzigtausend705, gerüstet zum Heer6635, gingen5674 vor dem HErrn3068 zum Streit4421 auf6440 das Gefilde6160 Jerichos3405.

14 An dem Tage3117 machte der HErr3068 Josua3091 groß vor5869 dem ganzen Israel3478; und fürchteten3372 ihn, wie sie Mose4872 fürchteten3372, sein1431 Leben2416 lang3117.

15 Und559 der HErr3068 sprach559 zu Josua3091:

16 Gebeut den Priestern3548, die die Lade727 des Zeugnisses5715 tragen5375, daß sie6680 aus dem Jordan3383 heraufsteigen5927.

17 Also gebot6680 Josua3091 den Priestern3548 und sprach559: Steiget herauf5927 aus dem Jordan3383!

18 Und3548 da die Priester, die die Lade727 des Bundes1285 des HErrn3068 trugen5375, aus8432 dem Jordan3383 heraufstiegen und mit ihren Fußsohlen3709 aufs Trockene2724 traten5423, kam das Wasser4325 des Jordans3383 wieder7725 an5927 seine Stätte4725 und floß3212, wie vorhin, an allen seinen Ufern1415.

19 Es war aber der zehnte6218 Tag des ersten7223 Monden2320, da das Volk5971 aus dem Jordan3383 heraufstieg; und lagerten sich5927 in Gilgal1537, gegen4217 den Morgen der Stadt Jericho3405.

20 Und die zwölf6240 Steine68, die sie aus dem Jordan3383 genommen hatten, richtete6965 Josua3091 auf3947 zu Gilgal1537.

21 Und559 sprach559 zu den Kindern1121 Israel3478: Wenn eure Kinder1121 hernachmals ihre Väter1 fragen7592 werden und sagen559: Was sollen diese Steine68?

22 so sollt ihr‘s3045 ihnen kundtun und1121 sagen559: Israel3478 ging5674 trocken3004 durch den Jordan3383,

23 da der HErr3068, euer GOtt430, das Wasser4325 des Jordans3383 vertrocknete3001, vor6440 euch, bis ihr5674 hinüberginget, gleichwie der HErr3068, euer GOtt430, tat6213 in5674 dem Schilfmeer5488, das er vor6440 uns vertrocknete3001, bis wir hindurchgingen;

24 auf daß alle3117 Völker5971 auf Erden776 die Hand3027 des HErrn3068 erkennen3045, wie mächtig2389 sie ist; daß ihr den HErrn3068, euren GOtt430, fürchtet3372 allezeit.

Chapter 4

1 AND when all the people had finished passing over the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua,

2 Take twelve men from the people, a man out of every tribe,

3 And command them, saying, Take from here out of the midst of the Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood, twelve stones, and you shall carry them over with you, and lay them in the lodging place where you lodge this night.

4 Then Joshua called the twelve men who were selected from the children of Israel, out of each tribe a man;

5 And Joshua said to them, Pass over before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take up every man of you a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel;

6 That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask you in time to come, saying, What is the meaning of these stones?

7 Then you shall tell them, The waters of the Jordan were divided before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when we passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were divided; and these stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel for ever.

8 And the children of Israel did as Joshua commanded them, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as the LORD had said to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them to the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

9 And they set up the twelve stones which they had taken out of the midst of the Jordan, where stood the feet of the priests who were bearing the ark of the covenant; and they are there to this day.

10 And the priests who bore the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan until everything was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to tell to the people, according to all that Moses had commanded Joshua; and the people made haste and passed over.

11 And when all the people had finished passing over, the ark of the LORD and the priests passed over before the people.

12 Then the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses had told them;

13 About forty thousand men armed for war passed over before the LORD to battle, to the plains of Jericho.

14 On that very day the LORD exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they had feared Moses, all the days of his life.

15 And the LORD said to Joshua,

16 Command the priests who bear the ark of the testimony to come up out of the Jordan.

17 Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, Come up out of the Jordan.

18 And when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD had come up out of the midst of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet rested firm on the dry land, the waters of the Jordan rushed to their place, and overflowed all its banks, as they did before.

19 And the people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the east border of Jericho.

20 And those twelve stones which they took out of the Jordan. Joshua set up at Gilgal.

21 And he said to the children of Israel, When your children shall ask you in time to come, saying, What is the meaning of these stones?

22 Then you shall explain them to your children, and say to them, The children of Israel crossed this Jordan on dry land.

23 For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before them, until they passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up from before us until we passed over;

24 So that all the peoples of the earth might know that the hand of the LORD is mighty, and that you may worship the LORD your God for ever.

8 And the children of Israel did as Joshua commanded them, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as the LORD had said to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them to the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

9 And they set up the twelve stones which they had taken out of the midst of the Jordan, where stood the feet of the priests who were bearing the ark of the covenant; and they are there to this day.

10 And the priests who bore the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan until everything was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to tell to the people, according to all that Moses had commanded Joshua; and the people made haste and passed over.

11 Da nun das Volk5971 ganz hinübergegangen war8552, da ging5674 die Lade727 des HErrn3068 auch hinüber5674, und3548 die Priester vor6440 dem Volk5971 her.

11 And when all the people had finished passing over, the ark of the LORD and the priests passed over before the people.
