Глава 22

1 Исраильтяне двинулись на равнины Моава и остановились у реки Иордана напротив города Иерихона.

2 Валак, сын Циппора, царь Моава, увидел всё, что Исраил сделал с аморреями.

3 Моавитяне очень испугались народа, потому что их было очень много. Они были полны ужаса перед исраильтянами.

4 Моавитяне сказали старейшинам Мадиана: – Эта толпа съест всё вокруг нас, как вол траву на поле. И Валак, сын Циппора, который был в то время царём Моава,

5 послал вестников за Валаамом, сыном Беора, в город Пефор, что на реке Евфрате, в его родную землю. Валак сказал: – Из Египта вышел народ, который покрыл лицо земли и поселился рядом со мной.

6 Прошу, приди и прокляни мне этот народ, потому что он слишком силён для меня. Может быть, тогда я смогу разбить их и прогнать из страны. Я ведь знаю, что все, кого ты благословляешь, – благословенны, а кого проклинаешь – прокляты.

7 Старейшины Моава и Мадиана тронулись в путь, взяв с собой плату за чародейство. Придя к Валааму, они передали ему всё, что сказал Валак.

8 – Переночуйте здесь, – сказал им Валаам, – и я передам вам ответ, который даст мне Вечный. Моавские вожди остались у него.

9 Всевышний явился к Валааму и спросил: – Кто эти люди, которые у тебя?

10 Валаам сказал Всевышнему: – Валак, сын Циппора, царь Моава, прислал сказать мне:

11 «Народ, который вышел из Египта, покрыл лицо земли. Приди и прокляни мне их. Может быть, тогда я смогу сразиться с ними и прогнать их».

12 Всевышний сказал Валааму: – Не ходи с ними. Не проклинай этот народ, потому что он благословен.

13 На следующее утро Валаам встал и сказал вождям Валака: – Ступайте в свою страну. Вечный отказался отпустить меня с вами.

14 Моавские вожди вернулись к Валаку и сказали: – Валаам отказался пойти с нами.

15 Валак послал других вождей, которых было больше, и они были знатнее первых.

16 Они пришли к Валааму и сказали: – Так говорит Валак, сын Циппора: «Не откажись прийти ко мне.

17 Я щедро вознагражу тебя и сделаю всё, что ты скажешь. Приди, прокляни мне этот народ».

18 Но Валаам ответил вождям Валака: – Даже если бы Валак предлагал мне свой дворец, полный серебра и золота, я не смог бы сделать ничего вопреки повелению Вечного, моего Бога.

19 Впрочем, останьтесь здесь на ночь, как те другие, а я узнаю, что ещё скажет мне Вечный.

20 В ту ночь Всевышний явился к Валааму и сказал: – Раз эти люди пришли, чтобы призвать тебя, вставай и иди с ними, но делай лишь то, что Я тебе скажу.

21 Валаам встал утром, оседлал ослицу и пошёл с вождями Моава.

22 Но Всевышний разгневался, когда он пошёл, и Ангел Вечного встал на дороге, чтобы помешать ему. Валаам ехал на ослице, и с ним были двое его слуг.

23 Когда ослица увидела Ангела Вечного, Который стоял на дороге с обнажённым мечом в руке, она свернула с дороги в поле. Валаам стал бить её, чтобы вернуть на дорогу.

24 Тогда Ангел Вечного встал на узкой тропе между двумя виноградниками, где по обе стороны дороги были стены.

25 Увидев Ангела Вечного, ослица прижалась к стене и придавила ногу Валаама. Он стал бить её снова.

26 Тогда Ангел Вечного перешёл вперёд и встал в тесном месте, где нельзя было повернуть ни вправо, ни влево.

27 Увидев Ангела Вечного, ослица легла под Валаамом, а он разгневался и стал бить её палкой.

28 Тогда Вечный дал ослице дар речи, и она сказала Валааму: – Что я тебе сделала, что ты три раза подряд избил меня?

29 Валаам ответил ослице: – Ты издевалась надо мной! Будь у меня в руке меч, я бы сейчас убил тебя.

30 Ослица сказала Валааму: – Разве я не твоя ослица, на которой ты ездил всегда до этого дня? Была ли у меня привычка поступать так с тобой? – Нет, – ответил он.

31 Тогда Вечный открыл Валааму глаза, и он увидел Ангела Вечного, Который стоял на дороге с обнажённым мечом. Валаам поклонился, пав на лицо своё.

32 Ангел Вечного спросил его: – За что ты три раза подряд бил ослицу? Я пришёл сюда, чтобы помешать тебе, потому что твой путь не угоден Мне.

33 Ослица увидела Меня и сворачивала от Меня три раза подряд. Если бы она не сворачивала, то Я бы уже убил тебя, а её пощадил.

34 Валаам сказал Ангелу Вечного: – Я согрешил. Я не знал, что Ты стоишь на дороге, чтобы помешать мне. Но теперь, если Ты недоволен, я пойду назад.

35 Ангел Вечного сказал Валааму: – Иди с этими людьми, но говори лишь то, что Я тебе скажу. И Валаам пошёл с вождями Валака.

36 Услышав, что идёт Валаам, Валак вышел встретить его к моавскому городу на арнонской границе, на краю своей земли.

37 Валак сказал Валааму: – Разве я не посылал, чтобы призвать тебя? Почему ты не приходил ко мне? Разве я не в силах вознаградить тебя?

38 – Вот, я и пришёл к тебе, – ответил Валаам. – Но в силах ли я сказать хоть что-то? Я должен говорить лишь то, что велит мне Всевышний.

39 Валаам пошёл с Валаком в город Кириат-Хуцот.

40 Валак принёс в жертву волов и овец и послал часть мяса Валааму и вождям, которые были с ним.

41 На следующее утро Валак взял Валаама на Бамот-Баал («высоты Баала»), . и оттуда он увидел часть исраильского народа.

Chapter 22

1 AND the children of Israel journeyed, and encamped in the plains of Moab on this side of Jordan by Jericho.

2 And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.

3 And the Moabites were in great fear of the people because they were many; and Moab was distressed at the presence of the children of Israel.

4 And Moab said to the elders of Midian, Now this multitude is licking up all that are around about us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.

5 So he sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor, an interpreter of dreams, who dwelt by the river of the land of the children of Ammon, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt; they cover the face of the land, and they are settled over against me.

6 Come now therefore and curse this people for me, for they are too mighty for me; perhaps I shall be able to defeat some of them and destroy them out of the land; for I know that he whom you bless is blessed and he whom you curse is cursed.

7 And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with gifts for divination in their hands; and they came to Balaam and told him the words of Balak.

8 And he said to them, Lodge here this night and I will give you an answer as the LORD shall speak to me; and the princes of Moab stayed with Balaam.

9 And God came to Balaam and said to him, Who are these men that are with you?

10 And Balaam said to God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent to me, saying,

11 Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt who cover the face of the earth; come now, and curse them for me; perhaps I shall be able to fight against them and destroy them.

12 And God said to Balaam, You shall not go with them; and you shall not curse the people; for they are blessed.

13 And Balaam rose up in the morning and said to the princes of Balak, Go to your land; for the LORD refuses to permit me to go with you.

14 So the princes of Moab rose up and went to Balak, and said to him, Balaam refused to come with us.

15 And again Balak sent messengers who were greater and more honorable than they.

16 And they carne to Balaam and said to him, Thus says Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing hinder you from coming to me;

17 For I will surely honor you exceedingly, and I will do for you whatever you say to me; come therefore, curse this people for me.

18 And Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not transgress against the word of the LORD my God, neither concerning a small matter nor concerning a great matter.

19 Now, therefore, tarry you also here this night, that I may know what more the LORD will say to me.

20 And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, If these men have come to call you, rise up and go with them; but only the word which I shall say to you, that shall you do.

21 So Balaam rose up in the morning and saddled his ass and went with the princes of Balak.

22 And God's anger was kindled against him because he went; and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now as he was riding on his she-ass, and his two servants with him,

23 The she-ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn and held in his hand; and the she-ass turned aside out of the way and went into the field; and Balaam struck the she-ass to turn her into the way.

24 But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyard, a wall being on this side and a wall on that side.

25 And when the she-ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself against the wall and pressed Balaam's foot against the wall; and he struck her again.

26 And the angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place where there was no way to turn either to the right or to the left.

27 And when the she-ass saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam; and Balaam's anger was kindled, and he struck the she-ass with a staff.

28 And the LORD opened the mouth of the she-ass and she said to Balaam, What have I done to you that you have struck me these three times?

29 And Balaam said to the she-ass, Because you have mocked me; I would there were a sword in my hands, for now would I kill you.

30 And the she-ass said to Balaam, Am I not your she-ass upon which you have ridden from your youth even to this day? Have I ever behaved in this manner toward you? And he said to her, No.

31 Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way with his sword drawn and held in his hand; and he bowed down his head and worshipped on his face.

32 And the angel of the LORD said to him, Why have you struck your she-ass these three times? Behold, I went out to be an adversary against you, because you have directed your course contrary to me;

33 And the she-ass saw me and turned aside from me these three times; and if she had not turned aside from me, surely now I would have slain you, and saved her alive.

34 And Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I did not know that thou didst stand in the way against me; now therefore, if my mission is evil in thy eyes, I will turn back again.

35 And the angel of the LORD said to Balaam, Go with the men; but only the command that I shall speak to you, that shall you do. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.

36 And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him in a town of Moab, which is in the border of Arnon at the uttermost end of the border.

37 And Balak said to Balaam, Did I not earnestly send messengers to you to call you? Why did you not come to me? Perhaps you were saying that I am not able to honor you?

38 And Balaam said to Balak, Lo, I have come to you; have I now any power at all to say anything? The word that God puts in my mouth, that shall I speak.

39 And Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Koriath-Hizroth.

40 And Balak slaughtered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam and to the princes who were with him.

41 And in the morning Balak took Balaam and brought him to a high place of Baal, and from there he saw the uttermost part of the people of Israel.

2 Валак, сын Циппора, царь Моава, увидел всё, что Исраил сделал с аморреями.	2 And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.
3 Моавитяне очень испугались народа, потому что их было очень много. Они были полны ужаса перед исраильтянами.	3 And the Moabites were in great fear of the people because they were many; and Moab was distressed at the presence of the children of Israel.
4 Моавитяне сказали старейшинам Мадиана: – Эта толпа съест всё вокруг нас, как вол траву на поле. И Валак, сын Циппора, который был в то время царём Моава,	4 And Moab said to the elders of Midian, Now this multitude is licking up all that are around about us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.
5 послал вестников за Валаамом, сыном Беора, в город Пефор, что на реке Евфрате, в его родную землю. Валак сказал: – Из Египта вышел народ, который покрыл лицо земли и поселился рядом со мной.	5 So he sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor, an interpreter of dreams, who dwelt by the river of the land of the children of Ammon, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt; they cover the face of the land, and they are settled over against me.
6 Прошу, приди и прокляни мне этот народ, потому что он слишком силён для меня. Может быть, тогда я смогу разбить их и прогнать из страны. Я ведь знаю, что все, кого ты благословляешь, – благословенны, а кого проклинаешь – прокляты.	6 Come now therefore and curse this people for me, for they are too mighty for me; perhaps I shall be able to defeat some of them and destroy them out of the land; for I know that he whom you bless is blessed and he whom you curse is cursed.
7 Старейшины Моава и Мадиана тронулись в путь, взяв с собой плату за чародейство. Придя к Валааму, они передали ему всё, что сказал Валак.	7 And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with gifts for divination in their hands; and they came to Balaam and told him the words of Balak.
8 – Переночуйте здесь, – сказал им Валаам, – и я передам вам ответ, который даст мне Вечный. Моавские вожди остались у него.	8 And he said to them, Lodge here this night and I will give you an answer as the LORD shall speak to me; and the princes of Moab stayed with Balaam.
9 Всевышний явился к Валааму и спросил: – Кто эти люди, которые у тебя?	9 And God came to Balaam and said to him, Who are these men that are with you?
10 Валаам сказал Всевышнему: – Валак, сын Циппора, царь Моава, прислал сказать мне:	10 And Balaam said to God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent to me, saying,
11 «Народ, который вышел из Египта, покрыл лицо земли. Приди и прокляни мне их. Может быть, тогда я смогу сразиться с ними и прогнать их».	11 Behold, there is a people come out of Egypt who cover the face of the earth; come now, and curse them for me; perhaps I shall be able to fight against them and destroy them.
12 Всевышний сказал Валааму: – Не ходи с ними. Не проклинай этот народ, потому что он благословен.	12 And God said to Balaam, You shall not go with them; and you shall not curse the people; for they are blessed.
13 На следующее утро Валаам встал и сказал вождям Валака: – Ступайте в свою страну. Вечный отказался отпустить меня с вами.	13 And Balaam rose up in the morning and said to the princes of Balak, Go to your land; for the LORD refuses to permit me to go with you.
14 Моавские вожди вернулись к Валаку и сказали: – Валаам отказался пойти с нами.	14 So the princes of Moab rose up and went to Balak, and said to him, Balaam refused to come with us.
15 Валак послал других вождей, которых было больше, и они были знатнее первых.	15 And again Balak sent messengers who were greater and more honorable than they.
16 Они пришли к Валааму и сказали: – Так говорит Валак, сын Циппора: «Не откажись прийти ко мне.	16 And they carne to Balaam and said to him, Thus says Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing hinder you from coming to me;
17 Я щедро вознагражу тебя и сделаю всё, что ты скажешь. Приди, прокляни мне этот народ».	17 For I will surely honor you exceedingly, and I will do for you whatever you say to me; come therefore, curse this people for me.
18 Но Валаам ответил вождям Валака: – Даже если бы Валак предлагал мне свой дворец, полный серебра и золота, я не смог бы сделать ничего вопреки повелению Вечного, моего Бога.	18 And Balaam answered and said to the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I could not transgress against the word of the LORD my God, neither concerning a small matter nor concerning a great matter.
19 Впрочем, останьтесь здесь на ночь, как те другие, а я узнаю, что ещё скажет мне Вечный.	19 Now, therefore, tarry you also here this night, that I may know what more the LORD will say to me.
20 В ту ночь Всевышний явился к Валааму и сказал: – Раз эти люди пришли, чтобы призвать тебя, вставай и иди с ними, но делай лишь то, что Я тебе скажу.	20 And God came to Balaam at night and said to him, If these men have come to call you, rise up and go with them; but only the word which I shall say to you, that shall you do.
21 Валаам встал утром, оседлал ослицу и пошёл с вождями Моава.	21 So Balaam rose up in the morning and saddled his ass and went with the princes of Balak.
22 Но Всевышний разгневался, когда он пошёл, и Ангел Вечного встал на дороге, чтобы помешать ему. Валаам ехал на ослице, и с ним были двое его слуг.	22 And God's anger was kindled against him because he went; and the angel of the LORD stood in the way for an adversary against him. Now as he was riding on his she-ass, and his two servants with him,
23 Когда ослица увидела Ангела Вечного, Который стоял на дороге с обнажённым мечом в руке, она свернула с дороги в поле. Валаам стал бить её, чтобы вернуть на дорогу.	23 The she-ass saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way, and his sword drawn and held in his hand; and the she-ass turned aside out of the way and went into the field; and Balaam struck the she-ass to turn her into the way.
24 Тогда Ангел Вечного встал на узкой тропе между двумя виноградниками, где по обе стороны дороги были стены.	24 But the angel of the LORD stood in a path of the vineyard, a wall being on this side and a wall on that side.
25 Увидев Ангела Вечного, ослица прижалась к стене и придавила ногу Валаама. Он стал бить её снова.	25 And when the she-ass saw the angel of the LORD, she thrust herself against the wall and pressed Balaam's foot against the wall; and he struck her again.

28 Тогда Вечный дал ослице дар речи, и она сказала Валааму: – Что я тебе сделала, что ты три раза подряд избил меня?	28 And the LORD opened the mouth of the she-ass and she said to Balaam, What have I done to you that you have struck me these three times?
29 Валаам ответил ослице: – Ты издевалась надо мной! Будь у меня в руке меч, я бы сейчас убил тебя.	29 And Balaam said to the she-ass, Because you have mocked me; I would there were a sword in my hands, for now would I kill you.
30 Ослица сказала Валааму: – Разве я не твоя ослица, на которой ты ездил всегда до этого дня? Была ли у меня привычка поступать так с тобой? – Нет, – ответил он.	30 And the she-ass said to Balaam, Am I not your she-ass upon which you have ridden from your youth even to this day? Have I ever behaved in this manner toward you? And he said to her, No.
31 Тогда Вечный открыл Валааму глаза, и он увидел Ангела Вечного, Который стоял на дороге с обнажённым мечом. Валаам поклонился, пав на лицо своё.	31 Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way with his sword drawn and held in his hand; and he bowed down his head and worshipped on his face.
32 Ангел Вечного спросил его: – За что ты три раза подряд бил ослицу? Я пришёл сюда, чтобы помешать тебе, потому что твой путь не угоден Мне.	32 And the angel of the LORD said to him, Why have you struck your she-ass these three times? Behold, I went out to be an adversary against you, because you have directed your course contrary to me;
33 Ослица увидела Меня и сворачивала от Меня три раза подряд. Если бы она не сворачивала, то Я бы уже убил тебя, а её пощадил.	33 And the she-ass saw me and turned aside from me these three times; and if she had not turned aside from me, surely now I would have slain you, and saved her alive.
34 Валаам сказал Ангелу Вечного: – Я согрешил. Я не знал, что Ты стоишь на дороге, чтобы помешать мне. Но теперь, если Ты недоволен, я пойду назад.	34 And Balaam said to the angel of the LORD, I have sinned; for I did not know that thou didst stand in the way against me; now therefore, if my mission is evil in thy eyes, I will turn back again.
35 Ангел Вечного сказал Валааму: – Иди с этими людьми, но говори лишь то, что Я тебе скажу. И Валаам пошёл с вождями Валака.	35 And the angel of the LORD said to Balaam, Go with the men; but only the command that I shall speak to you, that shall you do. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.
36 Услышав, что идёт Валаам, Валак вышел встретить его к моавскому городу на арнонской границе, на краю своей земли.	36 And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him in a town of Moab, which is in the border of Arnon at the uttermost end of the border.
37 Валак сказал Валааму: – Разве я не посылал, чтобы призвать тебя? Почему ты не приходил ко мне? Разве я не в силах вознаградить тебя?	37 And Balak said to Balaam, Did I not earnestly send messengers to you to call you? Why did you not come to me? Perhaps you were saying that I am not able to honor you?
38 – Вот, я и пришёл к тебе, – ответил Валаам. – Но в силах ли я сказать хоть что-то? Я должен говорить лишь то, что велит мне Всевышний.	38 And Balaam said to Balak, Lo, I have come to you; have I now any power at all to say anything? The word that God puts in my mouth, that shall I speak.
39 Валаам пошёл с Валаком в город Кириат-Хуцот.	39 And Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Koriath-Hizroth.
40 Валак принёс в жертву волов и овец и послал часть мяса Валааму и вождям, которые были с ним.	40 And Balak slaughtered oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam and to the princes who were with him.
41 На следующее утро Валак взял Валаама на Бамот-Баал («высоты Баала»), . и оттуда он увидел часть исраильского народа.	41 And in the morning Balak took Balaam and brought him to a high place of Baal, and from there he saw the uttermost part of the people of Israel.
