1 Один человек из рода Леви взял себе жену из того же рода.

2 Она забеременела и родила сына. Увидев, какой это красивый ребёнок, она прятала его три месяца,

3 а когда не смогла больше прятать, взяла тростниковую корзину и покрыла её смолой и дёгтем. Она положила в неё младенца и поставила её среди тростника на берегу Нила.

4 Сестра младенца встала поодаль, чтобы увидеть, что с ним случится.

5 Дочь фараона спустилась к Нилу купаться, а её служанки ходили по берегу. Она увидела корзину среди тростника и послала за ней рабыню.

6 Открыв корзину, дочь фараона увидела младенца. Он плакал, и она пожалела его. – Это один из еврейских детей, – сказала она.

7 Тогда сестра младенца подошла и спросила у дочери фараона: – Может, пойти и привести кормилицу из евреек, чтобы она вскормила для тебя младенца?

8 – Да, пойди, – ответила та. Девочка пошла и привела мать младенца.

9 Дочь фараона сказала ей: – Возьми этого младенца и вскорми его для меня, а я тебе заплачу за это. Женщина взяла младенца и вскормила его.

10 Когда ребёнок подрос, она отвела его к дочери фараона, и та усыновила мальчика. Она назвала его Муса («вытащить»), . говоря: «Я вытащила его из воды».

11 Однажды, когда Муса уже вырос, он пошёл к своим соплеменникам и увидел, какую тяжёлую работу они делают. Он увидел, как египтянин бьёт еврея – его соплеменника.

12 Оглянувшись вокруг и увидев, что никого нет, Муса убил египтянина и спрятал его тело в песке.

13 На следующий день он увидел двух дерущихся евреев. Он спросил обидчика: – Зачем ты бьёшь своего соплеменника?

14 Тот ответил: – Кто поставил тебя начальником и судьёй над нами? Не думаешь ли ты убить и меня, как убил египтянина?Муса испугался и подумал: «Должно быть, то, что я сделал, стало известно».

15 Услышав об этом, фараон хотел казнить Мусу, но Муса убежал от воинов фараона и поселился в стране мадианитян. Однажды, когда он сидел у колодца,

16 семь дочерей мадианского жреца пришли начерпать воды, чтобы наполнить поилки и напоить отару отца.

17 Но пришли пастухи и отогнали их, тогда Муса встал, защитил дочерей жреца и напоил их овец.

18 Когда девушки вернулись к своему отцу Иофору, . тот спросил: – Почему вы сегодня так рано вернулись?

19 Они ответили: – Какой-то египтянин защитил нас от пастухов. Он даже начерпал нам воды и напоил отару овец.

20 – Где же он? – спросил отец у дочерей. – Почему вы оставили его? Пригласите его поесть с нами.

21 Муса решил остаться у этого человека, и тот отдал свою дочь Ципору Мусе в жёны.

22 Она родила сына, и Муса назвал его Гершом («чужестранец там»), говоря: «Я стал поселенцем в чужой земле».

23 Спустя долгое время царь Египта умер. Исраильтяне стонали в рабстве и взывали о помощи. Вопль об их рабской доле дошёл до Всевышнего,

24 и Всевышний, услышав их стоны, вспомнил Своё соглашение с Ибрахимом, Исхаком и Якубом.

25 Всевышний посмотрел на исраильтян и пожалел их.

Chapter 2

1 AND there went a man from the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of the house of Levi.

2 And the woman conceived and bore a son; and when she saw that he was a handsome boy, she hid him for three months

3 And when she could no longer hide him, she took for herself an ark made of acacia wood, and daubed it with slime and with pitch, and put the child into it; and laid it among the reeds by the river's bank.

4 And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him.

5 And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe in the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maidens to fetch it.

6 And when she had opened it, she saw the child; and, behold, the babe was weeping. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children.

7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call for you a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse this child for you?

8 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the girl went and called the child's mother.

9 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages. So the woman took the child and nursed him.

10 And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses; for she said, I drew him out of the water.

11 And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown up, that he went out among his brethren, and saw their oppression; and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren of the children of Israel.

12 And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man watching, he slew the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.

13 And when he went out the second day, he looked, and behold, two Hebrew men were quarreling together; and he said to him that did the wrong, Why do you beat your fellow?

14 And he replied, Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian yesterday? And Moses was afraid, and said, Surely this thing is known.

15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the presence of Pharaoh, and went to the land of Midian; and he sat down by a well.

16 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters; and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.

17 And the shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses rose up and rescued them, and watered their flock.

18 And when they came to Reuel their father, he said to them, How is it that you have watered the flock so soon today?

19 And they said to him, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hands of the shepherds and also drew water for us and watered our flock.

20 And he said to his daughters, And where is he? Why is it that you have left the man? Go, invite him, that he may eat bread.

21 And Moses was content to dwell with the man; and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.

22 And she bore a son, and he called his name Gershon; for Moses said, I have been a stranger in a strange land. And she bore again, the second son to Moses, and he called his name Eleazar, saying, For the God of my fathers has helped me and has delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh.

23 And it came to pass after a long time that the king of Egypt died; and the children of Israel groaned because of severe oppression, and they prayed, and their cry came up to God because of severe oppression.

24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

25 And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God noticed their oppression.

4 Сестра младенца встала поодаль, чтобы увидеть, что с ним случится.

4 And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him.

5 Дочь фараона спустилась к Нилу купаться, а её служанки ходили по берегу. Она увидела корзину среди тростника и послала за ней рабыню.

5 And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe in the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's side; and when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her maidens to fetch it.

6 Открыв корзину, дочь фараона увидела младенца. Он плакал, и она пожалела его. – Это один из еврейских детей, – сказала она.

6 And when she had opened it, she saw the child; and, behold, the babe was weeping. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' children.

7 Тогда сестра младенца подошла и спросила у дочери фараона: – Может, пойти и привести кормилицу из евреек, чтобы она вскормила для тебя младенца?

7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call for you a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse this child for you?

8 – Да, пойди, – ответила та. Девочка пошла и привела мать младенца.

8 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the girl went and called the child's mother.

9 Дочь фараона сказала ей: – Возьми этого младенца и вскорми его для меня, а я тебе заплачу за это. Женщина взяла младенца и вскормила его.

9 And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages. So the woman took the child and nursed him.

10 Когда ребёнок подрос, она отвела его к дочери фараона, и та усыновила мальчика. Она назвала его Муса («вытащить»), . говоря: «Я вытащила его из воды».

10 And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses; for she said, I drew him out of the water.

11 And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown up, that he went out among his brethren, and saw their oppression; and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren of the children of Israel.

12 Оглянувшись вокруг и увидев, что никого нет, Муса убил египтянина и спрятал его тело в песке.

12 And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man watching, he slew the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.

13 На следующий день он увидел двух дерущихся евреев. Он спросил обидчика: – Зачем ты бьёшь своего соплеменника?

13 And when he went out the second day, he looked, and behold, two Hebrew men were quarreling together; and he said to him that did the wrong, Why do you beat your fellow?

14 Тот ответил: – Кто поставил тебя начальником и судьёй над нами? Не думаешь ли ты убить и меня, как убил египтянина?Муса испугался и подумал: «Должно быть, то, что я сделал, стало известно».

15 Услышав об этом, фараон хотел казнить Мусу, но Муса убежал от воинов фараона и поселился в стране мадианитян. Однажды, когда он сидел у колодца,

15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the presence of Pharaoh, and went to the land of Midian; and he sat down by a well.

16 семь дочерей мадианского жреца пришли начерпать воды, чтобы наполнить поилки и напоить отару отца.

16 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters; and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.

17 Но пришли пастухи и отогнали их, тогда Муса встал, защитил дочерей жреца и напоил их овец.

17 And the shepherds came and drove them away; but Moses rose up and rescued them, and watered their flock.

18 Когда девушки вернулись к своему отцу Иофору, . тот спросил: – Почему вы сегодня так рано вернулись?

18 And when they came to Reuel their father, he said to them, How is it that you have watered the flock so soon today?

19 Они ответили: – Какой-то египтянин защитил нас от пастухов. Он даже начерпал нам воды и напоил отару овец.

19 And they said to him, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hands of the shepherds and also drew water for us and watered our flock.

20 – Где же он? – спросил отец у дочерей. – Почему вы оставили его? Пригласите его поесть с нами.

20 And he said to his daughters, And where is he? Why is it that you have left the man? Go, invite him, that he may eat bread.

21 Муса решил остаться у этого человека, и тот отдал свою дочь Ципору Мусе в жёны.

23 And it came to pass after a long time that the king of Egypt died; and the children of Israel groaned because of severe oppression, and they prayed, and their cry came up to God because of severe oppression.

24 и Всевышний, услышав их стоны, вспомнил Своё соглашение с Ибрахимом, Исхаком и Якубом.

24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob.

25 Всевышний посмотрел на исраильтян и пожалел их.

25 And God looked upon the children of Israel, and God noticed their oppression.
