Глава 6

1 Но израильтяне творили зло перед ГОСПОДОМ, и ГОСПОДЬ предал их в руки мидьянитян на семь лет.

2 Тяжким было для израильтян мидьянское иго, и потому стали они устраивать себе убежища в горах — пещеры и крепости на вершинах.

3 Всякий раз, едва пройдет у израильтян сев, как налетят на них мидьянитяне, амалекитяне и другие восточные племена:

4 встанут лагерем, сметут урожай повсюду, вплоть до самой Газы, не оставив им никакого пропитания, ни овцы, ни быка, ни осла.

5 Наезжали они со стадами и шатрами, было их много, что саранчи: не счесть ни их самих, ни верблюдов; гибель несли они всей стране.

6 Обнищал Израиль из-за мидьянитян, и возопили израильтяне к ГОСПОДУ о помощи.

7 Когда израильтяне возопили к ГОСПОДУ о помощи от мидьянитян,

8 ГОСПОДЬ послал к ним пророка с такой вестью: «Так говорит ГОСПОДЬ, Бог Израилев: „Я вывел вас из Египта и освободил от рабства.

9 Я избавил вас от египтян, от всех угнетателей ваших, Я изгнал их и отдал вам их земли.

10 И Я сказал вам: „Я — ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш, не преклоняйтесь перед богами аморейскими, хоть и живете вы в земле их“. Но вы не послушались голоса Моего!“»

11 И явился ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ и сел в Офре под дубом Йоаша, потомка Авиэзера. Сын его Гедеон тем временем обмолачивал пшеницу, спрятавшись от мидьянитян в давильне для винограда.

12 Ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ явился ему и сказал: «Сам ГОСПОДЬ сопутствует тебе, могучий воин!»

13 Гедеон ответил ему: «Так ли, Владыка мой? Если ГОСПОДЬ с нами — то почему же всё это обрушилось на нас? И где чудеса Его, о которых рассказывали нам отцы, вспоминая: „Не ГОСПОДЬ ли вывел нас из Египта?“ Нет, отверг нас ныне ГОСПОДЬ, предал в руки мидьянитян».

14 Обратился тогда к нему Господь и сказал: «Иди и силой этой, тебе дарованной, избавь Израиль от мидьянитян. Не Я ли посылаю тебя?»

15 Гедеон ответил ему: «Не могу я, Владыка мой, спасти Израиль. Род мой — самый слабый в колене Манассии, а сам я младший в доме моего отца».

16 ГОСПОДЬ же сказал ему на это: «Я пребуду с тобой, и ты поразишь всех мидьянитян, как ты сразил бы одного человека».

17 Но Гедеон сказал Ему: «Если я снискал расположение Твое, покажи мне явно, что это Ты говоришь со мной.

18 Прошу Тебя, Господи, оставайся здесь, пока я не вернусь с даром, который принесу Тебе». И Господь ответил ему: «Я буду здесь до тех пор, пока ты не вернешься».

19 И Гедеон пошел и приготовил мясо козленка и из эфы муки испек пресных лепешек. Мясо он положил в корзину, а мясной отвар налил в горшок. Всё это он принес к дубу и положил перед ангелом.

20 И ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ сказал ему: «Положи мясо и лепешки на эту скалу и вылей на них мясной отвар». Гедеон так и сделал.

21 Ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ протянул жезл, который держал в руке, коснулся им мяса и лепешек — и вышел из скалы огонь и поглотил мясо и лепешки. А ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ скрылся из виду.

22 И тогда осознал Гедеон, что это воистину был ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ, и воскликнул: «Горе мне, Владыка ГОСПОДИ! Ведь Я лицом к лицу видел ангела ГОСПОДНЯ!»

23 Но ГОСПОДЬ ответил: «Мир тебе! Не бойся, ты не умрешь».

24 Построил Гедеон на том месте жертвенник ГОСПОДУ и назвал его «ГОСПОДЬ, мир дарующий»; он и по сей день стоит в Офре Авиэзеровой.

25 В ту же ночь ГОСПОДЬ повелел ему: «Возьми у отца своего молодого теленка и семилетнего быка и разрушь жертвенник Ваала, стоящий у отца, и сруби столб Ашеры при нем.

26 И на этом возвышении поставь жертвенник ГОСПОДУ, возьми быка, приготовь всё необходимое и принеси его в жертву всесожжения на костре, а столб Ашеры используй как дрова».

27 Гедеон взял десяток слуг и поступил так, как повелел ему ГОСПОДЬ. Но, опасаясь своих домочадцев и жителей селения, он не решился делать это днем, а сделал ночью.

28 Рано поутру встали жители селения и видят, что жертвенник Ваала разрушен, столб Ашеры при нем срублен, а на недавно устроенном жертвеннике принесен в жертву бык.

29 Стали они спрашивать друг у друга: «Кто это сделал?!» Искали они, узнали и объявили: «Гедеон, сын Йоаша, сделал это!»

30 И жители селения стали требовать от Йоаша: «Приведи сюда сына! Пусть он умрет за то, что разрушил жертвенник Ваала и срубил столб Ашеры при нем».

31 На это Йоаш сказал всем, кто окружил его: «Зачем вам вступаться за Ваала? Зачем пытаться спасти его? Всякий, кто вступится за него, этой же ночью будет предан смерти! Если Ваал бог, то он сам за себя и постоит, ведь это его жертвенник разрушен».

32 И стали с того дня называть Гедеона Еруббаалем, что означает: «Пусть Ваал сам постоит за себя», потому что Гедеон разрушил его жертвенник.

33 А все мидьянитяне, амалекитяне и другие восточные племена собрались вместе, перешли Иордан и встали лагерем в Изреельской долине.

34 И Дух ГОСПОДЕНЬ объял Гедеона, он протрубил в рог и призвал род Авиэзера следовать за ним.

35 И Гедеон разослал гонцов ко всем потомкам Манассии и призвал их последовать за ним; послал он гонцов и к Асиру, Завулону и Неффалиму, и они пошли и примкнули к нему.

36 И Гедеон сказал Богу: «Если Ты, Господи, моей рукой будешь спасать Израиль, как Ты и говорил,

37 то вот овечья шерсть, я разложу ее на гумне. Если роса осядет только на шерсти, а земля вокруг останется сухой, то я буду знать, что Ты моей рукой спасешь Израиль, как Ты и говорил».

38 Так оно и было: встав рано поутру, он выжал из шерсти целую чашу воды.

39 И Гедеон сказал Богу: «Не прогневайся на меня за то, что я еще раз обращусь к Тебе и снова испытаю, что будет с шерстью: на этот раз пусть шерсть останется сухой, а роса осядет только на земле вокруг нее».

40 Так Бог и сделал следующей ночью: сухой осталась шерсть, а на земле вокруг нее была роса.

Chapter 6

1 AND the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD delivered them into the hand of the Midianites seven years.

2 And the hand of the Midianites prevailed against Israel, in that they fled from before the Midianites; and the children of Israel made for themselves dens in the mountains, and caves, and sheepfolds.

3 And whenever Israel had sown, the Midianites and the Amalekites and the Rakimites came up and encamped against them;

4 And they destroyed the produce of the whole land as far as the entrance of Gaza, and left no food for Israel to raise either oxen or sheep or asses.

5 For they came up with their cattle and their tents, and they came like locusts in multitude; for both they and their camels were without number; and they entered into the land to destroy it.

6 And Israel trembled exceedingly from before the Midianites;

7 And the children of Israel cried to the LORD because of the Midianites,

8 And the LORD sent a prophet to the children of Israel, and he said to them, Thus says the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;

9 And I delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of all your oppressors, and destroyed them from before you and gave you their land;

10 And I said to you, I am the LORD your God; you shall not worship the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell; but you have not obeyed my voice.

11 And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was at Ophrah, the town of Joash the father of Azri; and his son Gideon was beating out wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.

12 And the angel of the LORD appeared and said to him, The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor.

13 And Gideon said to him, I beseech you, O my lord, if the LORD be with us, why then have all these misfortunes befallen us? And where are all his wonders of which our fathers have told us, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? But now the LORD has forsaken us and delivered us into the hand of the Midianites.

14 And the LORD turned to him, and said, Go with this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites; behold, I have sent you.

15 And he said to him, I beseech thee, O my LORD, with what shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is the least in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father's family.

16 And the LORD said to him, I will be with you, and you shall smite the Midianites as one man.

17 And he said to him, If now I have found mercy in thy sight, then show me a sign that I may know that thou speakest with me.

18 Do not depart from here until I come to thee and bring out my meal and set it before thee. And he said, I will tarry until you come again.

19 So Gideon went in and prepared a kid and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour; the meat he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out to him under the oak and presented it.

20 And the angel of the LORD said to him, Take the meat and the unleavened cakes, and lay them on the rock, and pour out the broth over it. And he did so.

21 Then the angel of the LORD .put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the meat and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the meat and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the LORD vanished from his sight.

22 And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the LORD, Gideon said, Alas, O LORD God! for I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face.

23 And the LORD said to him, Peace be unto you; fear not; you shall not die.

24 Then Gideon built an altar there to the LORD, and called it Mariah-shalama; and to this day it still stands in Ophrah, the town of the father of Azri.

25 And it came to pass on that day, the LORD said to him, Take your father's bullock, and the second bullock seven years old, and pull down the altar of Baal, the idol of your father, and cut down the grove that is by it;

26 And build an altar to the LORD your God upon the top of this rock, in an orderly manner, and take the second bullock, and offer it upon it as a burnt offering with the wood of the grove which you shall cut down.

27 Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the LORD had said to him; and because he was afraid of doing it by day, because of his father's household and the men of the town, he did it by night.

28 And when the men of the town arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was pulled down and the grove which was beside it was destroyed and the second bullock was offered upon another altar which had been built.

29 And they said one to another, Who has done this thing? And when they had asked and enquired, they said, Gideon the son of Joash has done this thing.

30 Then the men of the town said to Joash, Bring out your son, that he may die; because he has pulled down the altar of Baal and has cut down the grove that was by it.

31 And Joash said to all who stood against him, Will you plead for Baal? Or will you try to save him? Whosoever pleads for him shall be put to death while it is yet morning; if he is a god, let him plead for himself, because his altar has been thrown down.

32 Therefore on that day he called Gideon Nedo-baal, saying, Let Baal judge him, because he has thrown down his altar.

33 Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the Rakimites were gathered together, and went over and encamped in the valley of Jezreel.

34 But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Jezreel shouted his approval.

35 And he sent his messengers throughout all Manasseh; and they also blew trumpets and followed him; and he sent his messengers to Asher and to Zebulun and to Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.

36 And Gideon said to God, If thou wilt save Israel by my hand, as thou hast said,

37 Behold, I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor; and if there is dew on the fleece only, and it is dry on all the ground, then I shall know that thou wilt save Israel by my hand, as thou hast said.

38 And it was so; and he rose early the next day and pressed the fleece and wrung the dew out of the fleece, a bowlful of water.

39 And Gideon said to God, Let not thy anger kindle against me, and I will speak but this once; let me prove thee again but this once with the fleece; let now only the fleece be dry, and upon all the ground let there be dew.

40 And God did so that night; for only the fleece was dry, and there was dew on all the ground.

3 Всякий раз, едва пройдет у израильтян сев, как налетят на них мидьянитяне, амалекитяне и другие восточные племена:

3 And whenever Israel had sown, the Midianites and the Amalekites and the Rakimites came up and encamped against them;

4 встанут лагерем, сметут урожай повсюду, вплоть до самой Газы, не оставив им никакого пропитания, ни овцы, ни быка, ни осла.

6 Обнищал Израиль из-за мидьянитян, и возопили израильтяне к ГОСПОДУ о помощи.

7 Когда израильтяне возопили к ГОСПОДУ о помощи от мидьянитян,

7 And the children of Israel cried to the LORD because of the Midianites,

8 ГОСПОДЬ послал к ним пророка с такой вестью: «Так говорит ГОСПОДЬ, Бог Израилев: „Я вывел вас из Египта и освободил от рабства.

8 And the LORD sent a prophet to the children of Israel, and he said to them, Thus says the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;

9 Я избавил вас от египтян, от всех угнетателей ваших, Я изгнал их и отдал вам их земли.

9 And I delivered you from the hand of the Egyptians and from the hand of all your oppressors, and destroyed them from before you and gave you their land;

10 И Я сказал вам: „Я — ГОСПОДЬ, Бог ваш, не преклоняйтесь перед богами аморейскими, хоть и живете вы в земле их“. Но вы не послушались голоса Моего!“»

10 And I said to you, I am the LORD your God; you shall not worship the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell; but you have not obeyed my voice.

11 И явился ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ и сел в Офре под дубом Йоаша, потомка Авиэзера. Сын его Гедеон тем временем обмолачивал пшеницу, спрятавшись от мидьянитян в давильне для винограда.

11 And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was at Ophrah, the town of Joash the father of Azri; and his son Gideon was beating out wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.

12 Ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ явился ему и сказал: «Сам ГОСПОДЬ сопутствует тебе, могучий воин!»

12 And the angel of the LORD appeared and said to him, The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor.

13 Гедеон ответил ему: «Так ли, Владыка мой? Если ГОСПОДЬ с нами — то почему же всё это обрушилось на нас? И где чудеса Его, о которых рассказывали нам отцы, вспоминая: „Не ГОСПОДЬ ли вывел нас из Египта?“ Нет, отверг нас ныне ГОСПОДЬ, предал в руки мидьянитян».

13 And Gideon said to him, I beseech you, O my lord, if the LORD be with us, why then have all these misfortunes befallen us? 14 Обратился тогда к нему Господь и сказал: «Иди и силой этой, тебе дарованной, избавь Израиль от мидьянитян. Не Я ли посылаю тебя?»

14 And the LORD turned to him, and said, Go with this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites; behold, I have sent you.

15 Гедеон ответил ему: «Не могу я, Владыка мой, спасти Израиль. Род мой — самый слабый в колене Манассии, а сам я младший в доме моего отца».

15 And he said to him, I beseech thee, O my LORD, with what shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is the least in Manasseh, and I am the youngest in my father's family.

16 ГОСПОДЬ же сказал ему на это: «Я пребуду с тобой, и ты поразишь всех мидьянитян, как ты сразил бы одного человека».

16 And the LORD said to him, I will be with you, and you shall smite the Midianites as one man.

17 Но Гедеон сказал Ему: «Если я снискал расположение Твое, покажи мне явно, что это Ты говоришь со мной.

17 And he said to him, If now I have found mercy in thy sight, then show me a sign that I may know that thou speakest with me.

18 Прошу Тебя, Господи, оставайся здесь, пока я не вернусь с даром, который принесу Тебе». И Господь ответил ему: «Я буду здесь до тех пор, пока ты не вернешься».

18 Do not depart from here until I come to thee and bring out my meal and set it before thee. And he said, I will tarry until you come again.

19 И Гедеон пошел и приготовил мясо козленка и из эфы муки испек пресных лепешек. Мясо он положил в корзину, а мясной отвар налил в горшок. Всё это он принес к дубу и положил перед ангелом.

20 И ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ сказал ему: «Положи мясо и лепешки на эту скалу и вылей на них мясной отвар». Гедеон так и сделал.

20 And the angel of the LORD said to him, Take the meat and the unleavened cakes, and lay them on the rock, and pour out the broth over it. And he did so.

21 Ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ протянул жезл, который держал в руке, коснулся им мяса и лепешек — и вышел из скалы огонь и поглотил мясо и лепешки. А ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ скрылся из виду.

21 Then the angel of the LORD .put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the meat and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the meat and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the LORD vanished from his sight.

22 И тогда осознал Гедеон, что это воистину был ангел ГОСПОДЕНЬ, и воскликнул: «Горе мне, Владыка ГОСПОДИ! Ведь Я лицом к лицу видел ангела ГОСПОДНЯ!»

22 And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the LORD, Gideon said, Alas, O LORD God! for I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face.

23 Но ГОСПОДЬ ответил: «Мир тебе! Не бойся, ты не умрешь».

23 And the LORD said to him, Peace be unto you; fear not; you shall not die.

24 Построил Гедеон на том месте жертвенник ГОСПОДУ и назвал его «ГОСПОДЬ, мир дарующий»; он и по сей день стоит в Офре Авиэзеровой.

24 Then Gideon built an altar there to the LORD, and called it Mariah-shalama; and to this day it still stands in Ophrah, the town of the father of Azri.

25 В ту же ночь ГОСПОДЬ повелел ему: «Возьми у отца своего молодого теленка и семилетнего быка и разрушь жертвенник Ваала, стоящий у отца, и сруби столб Ашеры при нем.

25 And it came to pass on that day, the LORD said to him, Take your father's bullock, and the second bullock seven years old, and pull down the altar of Baal, the idol of your father, and cut down the grove that is by it;

26 И на этом возвышении поставь жертвенник ГОСПОДУ, возьми быка, приготовь всё необходимое и принеси его в жертву всесожжения на костре, а столб Ашеры используй как дрова».

27 Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the LORD had said to him; and because he was afraid of doing it by day, because of his father's household and the men of the town, he did it by night.

28 Рано поутру встали жители селения и видят, что жертвенник Ваала разрушен, столб Ашеры при нем срублен, а на недавно устроенном жертвеннике принесен в жертву бык.

28 And when the men of the town arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was pulled down and the grove which was beside it was destroyed and the second bullock was offered upon another altar which had been built.

29 Стали они спрашивать друг у друга: «Кто это сделал?!» Искали они, узнали и объявили: «Гедеон, сын Йоаша, сделал это!»

29 And they said one to another, Who has done this thing? And when they had asked and enquired, they said, Gideon the son of Joash has done this thing.

30 И жители селения стали требовать от Йоаша: «Приведи сюда сына! Пусть он умрет за то, что разрушил жертвенник Ваала и срубил столб Ашеры при нем».

30 Then the men of the town said to Joash, Bring out your son, that he may die; because he has pulled down the altar of Baal and has cut down the grove that was by it.

31 На это Йоаш сказал всем, кто окружил его: «Зачем вам вступаться за Ваала? Зачем пытаться спасти его? Всякий, кто вступится за него, этой же ночью будет предан смерти! Если Ваал бог, то он сам за себя и постоит, ведь это его жертвенник разрушен».

31 And Joash said to all who stood against him, Will you plead for Baal? Or will you try to save him? Whosoever pleads for him shall be put to death while it is yet morning; if he is a god, let him plead for himself, because his altar has been thrown down.

32 И стали с того дня называть Гедеона Еруббаалем, что означает: «Пусть Ваал сам постоит за себя», потому что Гедеон разрушил его жертвенник.

32 Therefore on that day he called Gideon Nedo-baal, saying, Let Baal judge him, because he has thrown down his altar.

33 А все мидьянитяне, амалекитяне и другие восточные племена собрались вместе, перешли Иордан и встали лагерем в Изреельской долине.

34 И Дух ГОСПОДЕНЬ объял Гедеона, он протрубил в рог и призвал род Авиэзера следовать за ним.

36 И Гедеон сказал Богу: «Если Ты, Господи, моей рукой будешь спасать Израиль, как Ты и говорил,

36 And Gideon said to God, If thou wilt save Israel by my hand, as thou hast said,

37 то вот овечья шерсть, я разложу ее на гумне. Если роса осядет только на шерсти, а земля вокруг останется сухой, то я буду знать, что Ты моей рукой спасешь Израиль, как Ты и говорил».

37 Behold, I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor; and if there is dew on the fleece only, and it is dry on all the ground, then I shall know that thou wilt save Israel by my hand, as thou hast said.

38 Так оно и было: встав рано поутру, он выжал из шерсти целую чашу воды.

38 And it was so; and he rose early the next day and pressed the fleece and wrung the dew out of the fleece, a bowlful of water.

39 И Гедеон сказал Богу: «Не прогневайся на меня за то, что я еще раз обращусь к Тебе и снова испытаю, что будет с шерстью: на этот раз пусть шерсть останется сухой, а роса осядет только на земле вокруг нее».

39 And Gideon said to God, Let not thy anger kindle against me, and I will speak but this once; let me prove thee again but this once with the fleece; let now only the fleece be dry, and upon all the ground let there be dew.

40 Так Бог и сделал следующей ночью: сухой осталась шерсть, а на земле вокруг нее была роса.

40 And God did so that night; for only the fleece was dry, and there was dew on all the ground.
