2 И приставь нож к горлу своему, если жадна душа твоя.

3 Не прельщайся лакомыми яствами его; ибо это обманчивый хлеб.

4 Не заботься о том, чтобы разбогатеть; оставь свой замысл.

5 К чему тебе устремлять глаза свои на то, чего скоро не будет? Ибо оно непременно приделает крылья себе; как орел, улетит к небу.

6 Не ходи обедать к завистливому, и не прельщайся лакомыми яствами его;

7 Потому что каковы думы в душе его, таков он; `Ешь и пей`, говорит тебе, а сердце его не с тобою.

8 Кусок свой, который съешь, изблюешь; и только потеряешь слова свои приятные.

9 Не говори в уши глупому, ибо он презирает благоразумие речей твоих.

10 Не передвигай межи вечности; и в земли сирот не входи.

11 Потому что Заступник их силен; Он вступится в тяжбу их с тобою.

12 Предай учению сердце твое, и приложи уши свои к изречениям ведения.

13 Не оставляй юноши без образования; когда накажешь его розгою, он не умрет.

14 Ты накажешь его розгою, и душу его спасешь от преисподней.

15 Сын мой, если у тебя будет мудрое сердце, то сердце мое возрадуется; так, и я возрадуюся.

16 И все внутреннее мое восторжествует, когда уста твои будут говорить верно.

17 Сердце твое пусть не соревнует грешникам, но в страхе Иеговы весь день.

18 Ибо если есть конец, то надежда твоя не подсечется.

19 Слушай ты, сын мой, и мудр будь, и прямо направляй сердце твое в пути.

20 Не будь в числе упивающихся вином, в числе истощающих тело свое.

21 Ибо пьяница и расточитель обеднеют; и сонливость оденет в рубища.

22 Слушай отца своего, он родил тебя; не пренебрегай матери своей и тогда, как она состареется.

23 Купи истину, и не продавай; купи премудрость и образованность, и рассудительность.

24 Весело, весело будет отцу праведника, и родитель мудрого порадуется о нем.

25 Порадуется отец твой и мать твоя; и весело будет родившей тебя.

26 Дай, сын мой, сердце твое Мне; и очи твои пусть не теряют путей Моих из виду;

27 Потому что блудница есть глубокая яма; и тесный колодезь - чужая жена.

28 И она, как разбойник, сидит в засаде; и законопреступников умножает между людьми.

29 У кого вой? у кого стон? у кого ссоры? у кого горе? у кого раны безвинные? у кого багровые глаза?

30 У тех, которые поздно сидят за вином, приходят отведать приправленного пряностями.

31 Не смотри на вино, как оно краснеется, как оно мещет в чаше перлы свои, ухаживается тихо.

32 Под конец оно укусит, как змей, и ужалит, как аспид.

33 Глаза твои заглядятся на чужих жен; и сердце твое заговорит развратное.

34 И будешь как спящий среди моря, и как спящий на верху мачты.

35 `Бьют меня {говорит пьяница}, мне не больно; толкают меня, не чувствую; когда проснусь, опять пойду, опять стану искать его`.
