Chapter 28

1 The wicked7563 flee5127 when no369 man pursueth:7291 but the righteous6662 are bold982 as a lion.3715

2 For the transgression6588 of a land776 many7227 are the princes8269 thereof: but by a man120 of understanding995 and knowledge3045 the state3651 thereof shall be prolonged.748

3 A poor7326 man1397 that oppresseth6231 the poor1800 is like a sweeping5502 rain4306 which leaveth no369 food.3899

4 They that forsake5800 the law8451 praise1984 the wicked:7563 but such as keep8104 the law8451 contend1624 with them.

5 Evil7451 men376 understand995 not3808 judgment:4941 but they that seek1245 the LORD3068 understand995 all3605 things.

6 Better2896 is the poor7326 that walketh1980 in his uprightness,8537 than he that is perverse4480 6141 in his ways,1870 though he1931 be rich.6223

7 Whoso keepeth5341 the law8451 is a wise995 son:1121 but he that is a companion7462 of riotous2151 men shameth3637 his father.1

8 He that by usury5392 and unjust gain8636 increaseth7235 his substance,1952 he shall gather6908 it for him that will pity2603 the poor.1800

9 He that turneth away5493 his ear241 from hearing4480 8085 the law,8451 even1571 his prayer8605 shall be abomination.8441

10 Whoso causeth the righteous3477 to go astray7686 in an evil7451 way,1870 he shall fall5307 himself1931 into his own pit:7816 but the upright8549 shall have good2896 things in possession.5157

11 The rich6223 man376 is wise2450 in his own conceit;5869 but the poor1800 that hath understanding995 searcheth him out.2713

12 When righteous6662 men do rejoice,5970 there is great7227 glory:8597 but when the wicked7563 rise,6965 a man120 is hidden.2664

13 He that covereth3680 his sins6588 shall not3808 prosper:6743 but whoso confesseth3034 and forsaketh5800 them shall have mercy.7355

14 Happy835 is the man120 that feareth6342 always:8548 but he that hardeneth7185 his heart3820 shall fall5307 into mischief.7451

15 As a roaring5098 lion,738 and a ranging8264 bear;1677 so is a wicked7563 ruler4910 over5921 the poor1800 people.5971

16 The prince5057 that wanteth2638 understanding8394 is also a great7227 oppressor:4642 but he that hateth8130 covetousness1215 shall prolong748 his days.3117

17 A man120 that doeth violence6231 to the blood1818 of any person5315 shall flee5127 to5704 the pit;953 let no408 man stay8551 him.

18 Whoso walketh1980 uprightly8549 shall be saved:3467 but he that is perverse6140 in his ways1870 shall fall5307 at once.259

19 He that tilleth5647 his land127 shall have plenty7646 of bread:3899 but he that followeth7291 after vain7386 persons shall have poverty7389 enough.7646

20 A faithful530 man376 shall abound7227 with blessings:1293 but he that maketh haste213 to be rich6238 shall not3808 be innocent.5352

21 To have respect5234 of persons6440 is not3808 good:2896 for for5921 a piece6595 of bread3899 that man1397 will transgress.6586

22 He376 that hasteth926 to be rich1952 hath an evil7451 eye,5869 and considereth3045 not3808 that3588 poverty2639 shall come upon935 him.

23 He that rebuketh3198 a man120 afterwards310 shall find4672 more favor2580 than he that flattereth4480 2505 with the tongue.3956

24 Whoso robbeth1497 his father1 or his mother,517 and saith,559 It is no369 transgression;6588 the same1931 is the companion2270 of a destroyer.376 7843

25 He that is of a proud7342 heart5315 stirreth up1624 strife:4066 but he that putteth his trust982 in5921 the LORD3068 shall be made fat.1878

26 He1931 that trusteth982 in his own heart3820 is a fool:3684 but whoso walketh1980 wisely,2451 he1931 shall be delivered.4422

27 He that giveth5414 unto the poor7326 shall not369 lack:4270 but he that hideth5956 his eyes5869 shall have many7227 a curse.3994

Proverbs

Chapter 28

1 THE wicked flee when no man pursues them; but the righteous are confident as a lion.

2 Because of the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof; but by righteous men who know justice the stability thereof shall be prolonged.

3 A poor man who oppresses the poor is like a sweeping rain which is of no benefit.

4 Those who forsake the law glory in wickedness; but those who keep the law receive strength.

5 Evil men do not understand justice; but those who seek the LORD understand all good things.

6 Better is the poor man walking in his uprightness than a rich man whose ways are perverse.

7 He who keeps the law is a wise son; but he who is engaged in vanity shames his father.

8 He who increases his wealth by usury and unjust means shall leave it for him who is kind to the poor.

9 He who closes his ears from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.

10 He who causes the righteous to go astray in an evil path shall fall himself into the pit; but the upright shall inherit good things.

11 The rich man is wise in his own eyes; but a poor man of understanding will reprove him.

12 When righteous men are strong, there is a great glory; but when the wicked rise to power, the glory diminishes.

13 He who hides his transgression shall not prosper; but he who confesses his sins and forsakes them, God will have mercy upon him.

14 Blessed is the man who is reverent always; but he who hardens his heart shall fall into mischief.

15 As a roaring lion and a raging bear, so is a wicked ruler over the poor.

16 A ruler who lacks understanding is also a great oppressor; but he who hates deceit shall prolong his life.

17 A man who is engaged in shedding of blood shall flee even to the jailer, and no one shall help him.

18 He who walks uprightly shall be saved; but he who is perverse in his ways shall fall into a pit.

19 He who tills the land shall have abundance of bread; but he who follows after vain pursuits shall have plenty of poverty.

20 A faithful man shall abound with blessings; but an evil man shall not be innocent.

21 A man who shows partiality is not good; for a piece of bread a man will become a traitor.

22 He who hastens to be rich has an evil eye and considers not that poverty shall come upon him.

23 He who rebukes a man shall find more favor afterwards than he who flatters with his tongue.

24 He who robs his father or his mother and says, It is no transgression, the same is the companion of a wicked man.

25 A greedy man stirs up strife; but he who puts his trust in the LORD shall be enriched.

26 He who trusts in his own heart is a fool; but he who walks with integrity will be delivered.

27 He who gives to the poor shall not lack; but he who turns his eyes away from the needy shall have many a curse.

28 When the wicked rise, men hide themselves; but when they perish, the righteous increase.
