1 And the men376 of Ephraim669 gathered themselves together,6817 and went5674 northward,6828 and said559 unto Jephthah,3316 Wherefore4069 passedst thou over5674 to fight3898 against the children1121 of Ammon,5983 and didst not3808 call7121 us to go1980 with5973 thee? we will burn8313 thine house1004 upon5921 thee with fire.784

2 And Jephthah3316 said559 unto413 them, I589 and my people5971 were1961 at great strife376 7379 3966 with the children1121 of Ammon;5983 and when I called2199 you, ye delivered3467 me not3808 out of their hands.4480 3027

3 And when I saw7200 that3588 ye delivered3467 me not,369 I put7760 my life5315 in my hands,3709 and passed over5674 against413 the children1121 of Ammon,5983 and the LORD3068 delivered5414 them into my hand:3027 wherefore4100 then are ye come up5927 unto413 me this2088 day,3117 to fight3898 against me?

4 Then Jephthah3316 gathered together6908 853 all3605 the men376 of Gilead,1568 and fought3898 with854 Ephraim:669 and the men376 of Gilead1568 smote5221 853 Ephraim,669 because3588 they said,559 Ye859 Gileadites1568 are fugitives6412 of Ephraim669 among8432 the Ephraimites,669 and among8432 the Manassites.4519

5 And the Gileadites1568 took3920 853 the passages4569 of Jordan3383 before the Ephraimites:669 and it was1961 so, that when3588 those Ephraimites669 which were escaped6412 said,559 Let me go over;5674 that the men376 of Gilead1568 said559 unto him, Art thou859 an Ephraimite?673 If he said,559 Nay;3808

6 Then said559 they unto him, Say559 now4994 Shibboleth:7641 and he said559 Sibboleth:5451 for he could not3808 frame3559 to pronounce1696 it right.3651 Then they took270 him, and slew7819 him at413 the passages4569 of Jordan:3383 and there fell5307 at that1931 time6256 of the Ephraimites4480 669 forty705 and two8147 thousand.505

7 And Jephthah3316 judged8199 853 Israel3478 six8337 years.8141 Then died4191 Jephthah3316 the Gileadite,1569 and was buried6912 in one of the cities5892 of Gilead.1568

8 And after310 him Ibzan78 of Bethlehem4480 1035 judged8199 853 Israel.3478

9 And he had1961 thirty7970 sons,1121 and thirty7970 daughters,1323 whom he sent7971 abroad,2351 and took in935 thirty7970 daughters1323 from4480 abroad2351 for his sons.1121 And he judged8199 853 Israel3478 seven7651 years.8141

10 Then died4191 Ibzan,78 and was buried6912 at Bethlehem.1035

1 THEN the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and went northward, and said to Jephthah, Why did you cross over to fight against the children of Ammon, and did not call us to go with you? We will burn your house over you with fire.

2 And Jephthah said to them, O men! I and my people had strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, you did not deliver me from their hands.

3 And when I saw that there was no one to deliver me, I risked my life, and crossed over against the children of Ammon, and the LORD delivered them into my hands; now why have you come up against me this day, to fight with me?

4 Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead smote the men of Ephraim, because they said, The Ephraimites dominate Ephraim and Manasseh.

5 And the Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan which belonged to Ephraim; and when any of the fugitives of Ephraim tried to cross over the passage, the men of Gilead said to him, Are you an Ephraimite? If he said, No;

6 Then they said to him, Say now Shibboleth; and he said Sibboleth; for he could not pronounce it so. Then they took him and slew him at the fords of the Jordan; and there fell at that time forty-two thousand of the Ephraimites.

7 And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then Jephthah the Gileadite died and was buried in his city in Gilead.

8 And after him Ibzan of Bethlehem judged Israel.

9 And he had thirty sons, and thirty daughters, and his thirty daughters he gave in marriage outside of his tribe, and brought in thirty daughters-in-law from outside. And he judged Israel seven years.

10 Then Ibzan died and was buried in Beth-lehem.

11 And after him Elon, a Zebulunite, judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.

12 And Elon the Zebulunite died and was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.

13 And after him Acran the son of Hillian, the Aprathonite, judged Israel.

14 And he had forty sons and thirty grandsons, who rode on seventy ass colts; and he judged Israel eight years.

15 Then Acran the son of Hillian, the Aprathonite died, and was buried in Aprathon in the land of Ephraim on the mount of the Amalekites.
