1 Then Jacob3290 went5375 7272 on his journey,5575 7272 and came3212 into the land776 of the people1121 of the east.6924

2 And he looked,7200 and behold2009 a well875 in the field,7704 and, see,2009 there8033 were three7969 flocks5739 of sheep6629 lying7257 by it; for out of that well875 they watered8248 the flocks:5739 and a great1419 stone68 was on the well's875 mouth.6310

3 And thither8033 were all3605 the flocks5739 gathered:622 and they rolled1556 the stone68 from the well's875 mouth,6310 and watered8248 the sheep,6629 and put7725 the stone68 again7725 on the well's875 mouth6310 in his place.4725

4 And Jacob3290 said559 to them, My brothers,251 from where370 be you? And they said,559 Of Haran2771 are we.

5 And he said559 to them, Know3045 you Laban3837 the son1121 of Nahor?5152 And they said,559 We know3045 him.

6 And he said559 to them, Is he well?7965 And they said,559 He is well:7965 and, behold,2009 Rachel7354 his daughter1323 comes935 with the sheep.6629

7 And he said,559 See,2005 it is yet5750 high1419 day,3117 neither3808 is it time6256 that the cattle4735 should be gathered622 together: water8248 you the sheep,6629 and go3212 and feed7462 them.

11 And Jacob3290 kissed5401 Rachel,7354 and lifted5375 up his voice,6963 and wept.1058

15 And Laban3837 said559 to Jacob,3290 Because3588 you are my brother,251 should you therefore serve5647 me for nothing?2600 tell5046 me, what4100 shall your wages4909 be?

16 And Laban3837 had two8147 daughters:1323 the name8034 of the elder1419 was Leah,3812 and the name8034 of the younger6996 was Rachel.7354

17 Leah3812 was tender7390 eyed;5869 but Rachel7354 was beautiful3303 8389 and well3303 favored.4758

18 And Jacob3290 loved157 Rachel;7354 and said,559 I will serve5647 you seven7651 years8141 for Rachel7354 your younger6996 daughter.1323

19 And Laban3837 said,559 It is better2896 that I give5414 her to you, than that I should give5414 her to another312 man:376 abide3427 with me.

20 And Jacob3290 served5647 seven7651 years8141 for Rachel;7354 and they seemed1961 5869 to him but a few259 days,3117 for the love160 he had to her.

21 And Jacob3290 said559 to Laban,3837 Give3051 me my wife,802 for my days3117 are fulfilled,4390 that I may go935 in to her.

22 And Laban3837 gathered622 together all3605 the men582 of the place,4725 and made6213 a feast.4960

23 And it came1961 to pass in the evening,6153 that he took3947 Leah3812 his daughter,1323 and brought935 her to him; and he went935 in to her.

24 And Laban3837 gave5414 to his daughter1323 Leah3812 Zilpah2153 his maid8198 for an handmaid.8198

25 And it came1961 to pass, that in the morning,1242 behold,2009 it was Leah:3812 and he said559 to Laban,3837 What4100 is this2063 you have done6213 to me? did not I serve5647 with you for Rachel?7354 why4100 2063 then have you beguiled7411 me?

26 And Laban3837 said,559 It must not be so3651 done6213 in our country,4725 to give5414 the younger6810 before6440 the firstborn.1067

27 Fulfill4390 her week,7620 and we will give5414 you this2063 also1571 for the service5656 which834 you shall serve5647 with me yet5750 seven7651 other312 years.8141

28 And Jacob3290 did6213 so,3651 and fulfilled4390 her week:7620 and he gave5414 him Rachel7354 his daughter1323 to wife802 also.

29 And Laban3837 gave5414 to Rachel7354 his daughter1323 Bilhah1090 his handmaid8198 to be her maid.8198

30 And he went935 in also1571 to Rachel,7354 and he loved157 also1571 Rachel7354 more than Leah,3812 and served5647 with him yet5750 seven7651 other312 years.8141

31 And when the LORD3068 saw7200 that Leah3812 was hated,8130 he opened6605 her womb:7358 but Rachel7354 was barren.6135

32 And Leah3812 conceived,2029 and bore3205 a son,1121 and she called7121 his name8034 Reuben:7205 for she said,559 Surely3588 the LORD3068 has looked7200 on my affliction;6040 now6258 therefore3588 my husband376 will love157 me.

33 And she conceived2029 again,5750 and bore3205 a son;1121 and said,559 Because3588 the LORD3068 has heard8085 I was hated,8130 he has therefore1571 given5414 me this2088 son also:1571 and she called7121 his name8034 Simeon.8095

6 «Как он поживает?» — спросил Иаков. «Хорошо, — ответили пастухи. — Вон дочь его, Рахиль, идёт с отарой овец».

7 Иаков сказал: «Послушайте, на улице ещё день, солнце сядет не скоро, и ещё рано собирать овец на ночь, так напоите их и выпустите обратно в поле».

8 Но пастухи сказали: «Не можем, пока все стада не соберутся. Тогда мы отвалим от колодца камень и будем поить овец».

9 Пока Иаков разговаривал с пастухами, подошла Рахиль с отцовскими овцами (она пасла их).

10 Рахиль была дочерью Лавана, брата Ревекки, матери Иакова. Увидев её, Иаков подошёл, отодвинул камень с колодца и напоил овец.

11 Потом он поцеловал Рахиль и заплакал.

12 Иаков рассказал Рахили, что он из семьи её отца и что он сын Ревекки. Рахиль сразу же побежала домой и рассказала об этом отцу.

13 Услышав новость о сыне своей сестры, Лаван выбежал навстречу Иакову, обнял его, поцеловал и привёл к себе в дом; и Иаков рассказал Лавану обо всём происшедшем.

14 «Как это замечательно, — сказал Лаван Иакову, — что ты — кровь и плоть моя!» Иаков оставался у Лавана целый месяц.

15 Однажды Лаван сказал Иакову: «Нехорошо, что ты работаешь на меня даром, ведь ты мой родственник. Как мне рассчитаться с тобой?»

16 У Лавана было две дочери: старшая — Лия и младшая — Рахиль.

17 Рахиль была красавица, у Лии же был кроткий взгляд.

18 Иаков полюбил Рахиль, поэтому он ответил Лавану: «Я буду семь лет работать на тебя, если ты согласишься, чтобы я женился на твоей дочери Рахили».

19 «Для неё будет лучше выйти замуж за тебя, чем за кого-то другого. Оставайся у меня», — сказал Лаван.

20 Иаков остался и работал на Лавана семь лет, которые промелькнули очень быстро, потому что велика была его любовь к Рахили.

21 Когда же семь лет истекли, Иаков сказал Лавану: «Отдай мне Рахиль в жёны, так как срок моих трудов на тебя истёк».

27 Но если ты доведёшь до конца неделю свадебного обряда, то я отдам тебе в жёны и Рахиль. Ты же за это должен прослужить мне ещё семь лет».

28 Иаков так и сделал: довёл до конца неделю свадебного обряда, и Лаван отдал ему в жёны свою дочь Рахиль.

29 Лаван дал Рахили свою служанку Валлу, чтобы та служила ей.

30 Иаков познал также и Рахиль и любил её больше, чем Лию. После этого он работал на Лавана ещё семь лет.

31 Господь видел, что Иаков любит Рахиль больше, чем Лию, и потому сделал так, чтобы Лия имела детей, а у Рахили детей не было.

32 Лия родила сына и назвала его Рувимом, потому что, как она сказала: «Господь увидел, как я бедствую: муж мой не любит меня, так, может быть, теперь он полюбит меня».

33 Лия снова забеременела и родила ещё одного сына. Она назвала его Симеоном, сказав: «Господь услышал, что я нелюбима, и потому послал мне сына».

34 И снова забеременела Лия, и родила ещё одного сына. Она назвала его Левием, сказав: «Теперь-то мой муж будет близок ко мне, ведь я дала ему троих сыновей».

35 Лия забеременела и родила ещё одного сына. Она назвала его Иудой, потому что, как она сказала: «Теперь я восхвалю Господа». После этого Лия перестала рожать.
