1 А цар Соломон покохав багато чужи́нних жінок: і дочку́ фараонову, моавітянок, аммонітянок, едомітянок, сидонянок, хіттіянок,

2 із тих народів, що про них Господь сказав був Ізраїлевим синам: „Не вві́йдете між них, і вони не вві́йдуть між вас, бо вони справді нахилять ваші серця до своїх богі́в“. До них прихили́вся Соломон коха́нням.

3 І було в нього жінок-княгинь сім сотень, а наложниць — три сотні. І жінки́ його прихили́ли його серце.

4 І сталося на час Соломонової старости, жінки́ його прихили́ли його серце до інших богі́в; і серце його не було все з Господом, Богом, як серце його батька Давида.

5 І пішов Соломон за Астартою, богинею сидонською, та за Мілкомом, гидо́тою аммонітською.

6 І робив Соломон зле в оча́х Господніх, і не йшов певно за Господом, як його батько Давид.

7 Тоді Соломон збудував же́ртівника для Кемоша, моавської гидо́ти, на горі, що навпроти Єрусалиму, та для Молоха, гидо́ти аммонських синів.

8 І так він зробив для всіх своїх чужи́нних жіно́к, що кадили та прино́сили жертви для своїх богів.

9 І розгнівався Господь на Соломона, бо його серце відхили́лося від Господа, Бога Ізраїлевого, що два ра́зи йому являвся,

10 і наказував йому про цю річ, — щоб не ходити за іншими богами. Та не вико́нував він того, що наказав був Господь.

11 І сказав Господь до Соломона: „Тому́, що було це з тобою, і не вико́нував ти Мого заповіту та постанов Моїх, що Я наказав був тобі, Я конче відберу́ царство твоє, та й дам його твоєму рабові.

12 Тільки за твоїх днів не зроблю́ того ради батька твого Давида, — з руки сина твого відберу́ його!

13 Та всього царства Я не відберу́, — одне племе́но Я дам синові твоєму ради раба Мого Давида та ради Єрусалиму, якого Я вибрав“.

14 І поставив Господь Соломонові за проти́вника едо́млянина Гада́да, — він із царсько́го насіння в Едо́мі.

15 І сталося, коли Давид був з Едомом, коли Йоа́в, начальник війська, пішов поховати трупи, то він повбивав кожного чоловічої статі в Едомі.

16 Бо шість місяців сидів там Йоав та ввесь Ізраїль, аж поки він не ви́губив кожного чоловічої статі в Едомі.

17 І втік Гада́д, він та з ним мужі едомські, зо слуг його батька, щоб піти до Єгипту; а Гадад був тоді малим хлопцем.

18 І встали вони з Мідія́ну й пішли до Пара́ну; і набра́ли вони з собою людей з Парану, та й прийшли до Єгипту, до фараона, царя єгипетського, а той дав йому дім та призна́чив йому утри́мання, і дав йому зе́млю.

19 І знайшов Гадад велику милість у фараонових оча́х, і він дав йому за жінку сестру́ своєї жінки, сестру цариці Тахпенеси.

20 І породи́ла йому сестра Тахпенеси сина його Ґенувата, а Тахпенеса ви́ховала його в фараоновому домі. І був Ґенува́т у фараоновому домі серед фараонових синів.

21 І почув Гадад в Єгипті, що Давид спочив із своїми батька́ми, та що помер Йоав, начальник ві́йська. І сказав Гадад до фараона: „Відпусти мене, й я піду́ до свого Кра́ю!“

24 І зібрав він при собі людей, та й став провідником банди, коли Давид розбивав їх. І пішли вони до Дама́ску, й осілися в ньому, і панували в Дамаску.

25 І був він проти́вником для Ізраїля за всіх Соломоновіих днів, а це окрім того лиха, що чинив Гадад. І бри́див він Ізраїлем, і запанував над Сирією.

26 А Єровоа́м, син Неватів, єфре́мівець, із Цереди, а ім'я́ його матері — Церуа, жінка вдова, — був раб Соломонів. І підняв він ру́ку на царя.

27 А оце та причина, що він підняв руку на царя: Соломон будував Мілло́, і попра́вив пролі́м у Місті Давида, свого батька.

28 А той муж Єровоам був відважний. І побачив Соломон цього юнака́, що він роботя́щий, і призна́чив його над усіма́ носія́ми Йо́сипового дому.

29 І сталося того ча́су, і вийшов Єровоам з Єрусалиму. І знайшов його на дорозі шілонянин Ахі́йя, пророк. Він був одя́гнений в нову́ одіж, й оби́два вони були самі на полі.

30 І схопи́в Ахі́йя за ту нову́ одежу, що була на ньому, та й подер її на дванадцять кусків.

31 І сказав він до Єровоа́ма „Візьми собі десять кусків, бо так сказав Господь, Бог Ізраїля: Оце Я віддира́ю царство з Соломонової руки, і дам тобі десять племе́н.

32 А одне племе́но буде йому ради Мого раба Давида та ради Єрусалиму, міста, що Я вибрав його зо всіх Ізраїлевих племе́н.

33 Це тому́, що вони покинули Мене і вклоня́лися Аста́рті, сидонській богині, і Кемошеві, богові моавському, та Мілкомові, богові аммонітському, і не пішли Моїми дорогами, щоб вико́нувати добре в Моїх оча́х, і постанови Мої та заповіді Мої, як батько його Давид.

34 Та не візьму́ Я всього царства з руки його, бо оставлю його володарем по всі дні життя його ради раба Мого Давида, що Я вибрав його, який доде́ржував заповідів Моїх та постанов Моїх.

35 І візьму́ Я царство з руки його сина, та й дам його тобі, оті десять племе́н.

36 А синові його дам одне племе́но, щоб позоставався світильник рабові Моєму Давидові, по всі дні перед лицем Моїм в Єрусалимі, місці, що Я вибрав Собі, щоб там перебувало Моє Йме́ння.

37 А тебе Я візьму́, і ти будеш царюва́ти над усім, чого пожадає душа твоя, і ти будеш царем над Ізраїлем.

38 І станеться, коли ти слу́хатимешся всього, що Я накажу́ тобі, і пі́деш Моїми дорогами, і робитимеш добре в оча́х Моїх, щоб виконувати постанови Мої та заповіді Мої, як робив раб Мій Давид, то Я бу́ду з тобою, і побудую тобі міцни́й дім, як Я збудував був Давидові, і дам тобі Ізра́їля.

39 І буду впокоря́ти Давидове насіння ради того, тільки не по всі дні“.

40 І шукав Соломон, щоб забити Єровоа́ма. І встав Єровоа́м, і втік до Єгипту, до Шішака, єгипетського царя. І пробува́в він в Єгипті аж до Соломонової смерти.

41 А решта Соломо́нових діл, і все, що він зробив був, та мудрість його, — ото вони написані в книзі „Соломонові діла“.

42 А днів, коли Соломон царював в Єрусалимі над усім Ізраїлем, було́ сорок літ.

Chapter 11

1 BUT King Solomon loved many foreign women, as well as the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Ammonites, Moabites, Edomites, Zidonians, and Hittites;

2 Of the nations concerning which the LORD had said to the children of Israel, You shall not mix with them, neither shall they mix with you, lest they turn away your heart after their gods; Solomon clung to these in love.

3 And he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart.

4 For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods; and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father.

5 For Solomon went after Ashtaroth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and after Malcom the god of the Ammonites.

6 And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.

7 Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the god of Moab, on the mountain that is before Jerusalem, and for Malcom the god of the Ammonites.

8 And likewise did he for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.

9 And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,

10 And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods; but he kept not that which the LORD commanded him.

11 Therefore the LORD said to Solomon, Forasmuch as you have done this, and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes and my commandments, which I have commanded you, I will surely rend the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant.

12 Nevertheless, in your days I will not do it for David my servant's sake; but I will rend it out of the hand of your son.

13 However I will not rend away all the kingdom; but will give one tribe to your son for David my servant's sake and for Jerusalem's sake, the city which I have chosen.

14 And the LORD stirred up an adversary against Solomon, Hadad the Edomite; he was of the royal family in Edom.

15 For when David destroyed Edom, and Joab the commander of the army went up to bury the slain, he slew every male in Edom

16 (For Joab and all Israel with him remained there six months, until he had slain every male in Edom);

17 But Hadad fled, he and certain Edomites from among his father's servants into Egypt, Hadad being yet a little boy.

18 They set out from Midian and came to Paran; and they took men with them out of Paran and went into Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave him a house and food, and said to him, Dwell with me; and gave him land.

19 And Hadad found great favor in the sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him to wife the sister of his own wife, the sister of Tahpenes the queen.

20 And the sister of Tahpenes bore him Genubath his son, whom Tahpenes weaned in Pharaoh's house; and Genubath was in Pharaoh's household among the sons of Pharaoh.

21 And when Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers and that Joab the commander of the army was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh. Let me depart that I may go to my own country.

22 But Pharaoh said to him, What have you lacked with me that, behold, you seek to go to your own country? And he answered, Nothing; but do let me go.

23 God also stirred up against Solomon another adversary, Hidron the son of Eliadah, who had fled from his lord Hadarezer king of Zobah;

24 And he gathered men to him, and became captain over a band, when David slew the people of Zobah; and they went to Damascus and dwelt in it, and Hadad reigned in Damascus.

25 And he was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, because of the evil which he did; and Hadad oppressed the children of Israel and reigned over Aram (Syria).

26 And Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephrathite of Zedda, Solomon's servant, whose mother's name was Zoriah, a widow, even he lifted up his hand against King Solomon.

27 And this was the reason why he lifted up his hand against King Solomon. When Solomon built Millo and repaired the breaches of the city of David,

28 The man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valour; and Solomon, seeing that the young man was valiant, made him ruler over all the charge of the house of Joseph.

29 And it came to pass at the time when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem that the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite encountered him on the road; and Ahijah had clad himself with a new garment; and the two of them were alone in a field;

30 And Ahijah caught the new garment that was on him, and tore it into twelve pieces;

31 And he said to Jeroboam, Take for yourself ten pieces; for thus says the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I will rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to you

32 (But he shall have one tribe for my servant David's sake and for Jerusalem's sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel);

33 Because he has forsaken me and has worshipped Ashtaroth the goddess of the Zidonians, and Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Malcom the god of the Ammonites, and has not walked in my ways and has not done that which is right in my eyes and has not kept my statutes and my judgments, as did David his father.

34 Nevertheless I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand; but I will make him a ruler all the days of his life for David my servant's sake, whom I chose because he kept my commandments and my statutes;

35 But I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand and will give it to you, ten tribes.

36 And to his son I will give one tribe, that David my servant may have an heir always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for myself to put my name there.

37 And I will give it to you, and you shall reign according to all that your soul desires, and you shall be king over Israel.

38 And if you shall hearken to all that I command you and will walk in my ways and do what is right in my sight and keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did. I will be with you, and build you a sure house, as I built for David my servant, and will give Israel to you.

39 And for this I will afflict the descendants of David, but not for ever.

40 Solomon sought therefore to kill Jeroboam. And Jeroboam arose and fled to Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.

41 And the rest of the acts of Solomon and all that he did and his wisdom, behold, they are written in the Book of the Acts of Solomon.

42 And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.

43 And Solomon slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David his father; and Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead.

6 І робив Соломон зле в оча́х Господніх, і не йшов певно за Господом, як його батько Давид.

6 And Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD, and went not fully after the LORD, as did David his father.

7 Тоді Соломон збудував же́ртівника для Кемоша, моавської гидо́ти, на горі, що навпроти Єрусалиму, та для Молоха, гидо́ти аммонських синів.

7 Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the god of Moab, on the mountain that is before Jerusalem, and for Malcom the god of the Ammonites.

8 І так він зробив для всіх своїх чужи́нних жіно́к, що кадили та прино́сили жертви для своїх богів.

8 And likewise did he for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.

9 І розгнівався Господь на Соломона, бо його серце відхили́лося від Господа, Бога Ізраїлевого, що два ра́зи йому являвся,

9 And the LORD was angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned from the LORD God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice,

10 і наказував йому про цю річ, — щоб не ходити за іншими богами. Та не вико́нував він того, що наказав був Господь.

10 And had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods; but he kept not that which the LORD commanded him.

11 І сказав Господь до Соломона: „Тому́, що було це з тобою, і не вико́нував ти Мого заповіту та постанов Моїх, що Я наказав був тобі, Я конче відберу́ царство твоє, та й дам його твоєму рабові.

11 Therefore the LORD said to Solomon, Forasmuch as you have done this, and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes and my commandments, which I have commanded you, I will surely rend the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant.

12 Тільки за твоїх днів не зроблю́ того ради батька твого Давида, — з руки сина твого відберу́ його!

12 Nevertheless, in your days I will not do it for David my servant's sake; but I will rend it out of the hand of your son.

13 Та всього царства Я не відберу́, — одне племе́но Я дам синові твоєму ради раба Мого Давида та ради Єрусалиму, якого Я вибрав“.

13 However I will not rend away all the kingdom; but will give one tribe to your son for David my servant's sake and for Jerusalem's sake, the city which I have chosen.

14 І поставив Господь Соломонові за проти́вника едо́млянина Гада́да, — він із царсько́го насіння в Едо́мі.

14 And the LORD stirred up an adversary against Solomon, Hadad the Edomite; he was of the royal family in Edom.

15 І сталося, коли Давид був з Едомом, коли Йоа́в, начальник війська, пішов поховати трупи, то він повбивав кожного чоловічої статі в Едомі.

15 For when David destroyed Edom, and Joab the commander of the army went up to bury the slain, he slew every male in Edom

16 Бо шість місяців сидів там Йоав та ввесь Ізраїль, аж поки він не ви́губив кожного чоловічої статі в Едомі.

16 (For Joab and all Israel with him remained there six months, until he had slain every male in Edom);

17 But Hadad fled, he and certain Edomites from among his father's servants into Egypt, Hadad being yet a little boy.

18 І встали вони з Мідія́ну й пішли до Пара́ну; і набра́ли вони з собою людей з Парану, та й прийшли до Єгипту, до фараона, царя єгипетського, а той дав йому дім та призна́чив йому утри́мання, і дав йому зе́млю.

18 They set out from Midian and came to Paran; and they took men with them out of Paran and went into Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave him a house and food, and said to him, Dwell with me; and gave him land.

19 І знайшов Гадад велику милість у фараонових оча́х, і він дав йому за жінку сестру́ своєї жінки, сестру цариці Тахпенеси.

19 And Hadad found great favor in the sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him to wife the sister of his own wife, the sister of Tahpenes the queen.

20 І породи́ла йому сестра Тахпенеси сина його Ґенувата, а Тахпенеса ви́ховала його в фараоновому домі. І був Ґенува́т у фараоновому домі серед фараонових синів.

20 And the sister of Tahpenes bore him Genubath his son, whom Tahpenes weaned in Pharaoh's house; and Genubath was in Pharaoh's household among the sons of Pharaoh.

21 І почув Гадад в Єгипті, що Давид спочив із своїми батька́ми, та що помер Йоав, начальник ві́йська. І сказав Гадад до фараона: „Відпусти мене, й я піду́ до свого Кра́ю!“

21 And when Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers and that Joab the commander of the army was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh. Let me depart that I may go to my own country.

22 А фараон йому відказав: „Чого тобі браку́є при мені, що ти оце хочеш іти до свого кра́ю?“ Та той сказав: „Ні, таки конче відпусти́ мене!“

22 But Pharaoh said to him, What have you lacked with me that, behold, you seek to go to your own country? And he answered, Nothing; but do let me go.

23 І поставив Бог йому, Соломонові, за противника ще й Резона, сина Ел'яди, що втік від Гадад'езера, царя Цови, свого пана.

25 And he was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, because of the evil which he did; and Hadad oppressed the children of Israel and reigned over Aram (Syria).

29 And it came to pass at the time when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem that the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite encountered him on the road; and Ahijah had clad himself with a new garment; and the two of them were alone in a field;

30 І схопи́в Ахі́йя за ту нову́ одежу, що була на ньому, та й подер її на дванадцять кусків.

30 And Ahijah caught the new garment that was on him, and tore it into twelve pieces;

31 І сказав він до Єровоа́ма „Візьми собі десять кусків, бо так сказав Господь, Бог Ізраїля: Оце Я віддира́ю царство з Соломонової руки, і дам тобі десять племе́н.

31 And he said to Jeroboam, Take for yourself ten pieces; for thus says the LORD God of Israel, Behold, I will rend the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to you

32 А одне племе́но буде йому ради Мого раба Давида та ради Єрусалиму, міста, що Я вибрав його зо всіх Ізраїлевих племе́н.

32 (But he shall have one tribe for my servant David's sake and for Jerusalem's sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel);

33 Це тому́, що вони покинули Мене і вклоня́лися Аста́рті, сидонській богині, і Кемошеві, богові моавському, та Мілкомові, богові аммонітському, і не пішли Моїми дорогами, щоб вико́нувати добре в Моїх оча́х, і постанови Мої та заповіді Мої, як батько його Давид.

34 Та не візьму́ Я всього царства з руки його, бо оставлю його володарем по всі дні життя його ради раба Мого Давида, що Я вибрав його, який доде́ржував заповідів Моїх та постанов Моїх.

34 Nevertheless I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand; but I will make him a ruler all the days of his life for David my servant's sake, whom I chose because he kept my commandments and my statutes;

35 І візьму́ Я царство з руки його сина, та й дам його тобі, оті десять племе́н.

35 But I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand and will give it to you, ten tribes.

36 А синові його дам одне племе́но, щоб позоставався світильник рабові Моєму Давидові, по всі дні перед лицем Моїм в Єрусалимі, місці, що Я вибрав Собі, щоб там перебувало Моє Йме́ння.

36 And to his son I will give one tribe, that David my servant may have an heir always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for myself to put my name there.

37 А тебе Я візьму́, і ти будеш царюва́ти над усім, чого пожадає душа твоя, і ти будеш царем над Ізраїлем.

37 And I will give it to you, and you shall reign according to all that your soul desires, and you shall be king over Israel.

38 І станеться, коли ти слу́хатимешся всього, що Я накажу́ тобі, і пі́деш Моїми дорогами, і робитимеш добре в оча́х Моїх, щоб виконувати постанови Мої та заповіді Мої, як робив раб Мій Давид, то Я бу́ду з тобою, і побудую тобі міцни́й дім, як Я збудував був Давидові, і дам тобі Ізра́їля.

38 And if you shall hearken to all that I command you and will walk in my ways and do what is right in my sight and keep my statutes and my commandments, as David my servant did. I will be with you, and build you a sure house, as I built for David my servant, and will give Israel to you.

39 І буду впокоря́ти Давидове насіння ради того, тільки не по всі дні“.

39 And for this I will afflict the descendants of David, but not for ever.

40 І шукав Соломон, щоб забити Єровоа́ма. І встав Єровоа́м, і втік до Єгипту, до Шішака, єгипетського царя. І пробува́в він в Єгипті аж до Соломонової смерти.

40 Solomon sought therefore to kill Jeroboam. And Jeroboam arose and fled to Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.

41 А решта Соломо́нових діл, і все, що він зробив був, та мудрість його, — ото вони написані в книзі „Соломонові діла“.

41 And the rest of the acts of Solomon and all that he did and his wisdom, behold, they are written in the Book of the Acts of Solomon.

42 А днів, коли Соломон царював в Єрусалимі над усім Ізраїлем, було́ сорок літ.

42 And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years.

43 І спочив Соломон зо своїми батьками, і був похо́ваний у Місті Давида, батька свого, а замість нього зацарював син його Рехав'а́м.

43 And Solomon slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David his father; and Rehoboam his son reigned in his stead.
