1 І сталося, що зостарівсь Ісак, і зате́мнились очі йому, і він не бачив. І покликав він старшого сина свого Ісава, і промовив до нього: „Мій сину!“ А той відказав йому: „Ось я!“

2 І промовив до нього Ісак: „Оце я зостарівся, не знаю дня смерти своєї...

3 А тепер візьми знаряддя своє, — сагайдака свого й лука свого, та й вийди на поле, і злови мені здо́бич мисливську.

4 І зготуй мені наїдок смачний, як я люблю́, і принеси мені, і нехай я з'їм, щоб поблагословила тебе душа моя, поки помру“.

5 А Ревека чула, як говорив Ісак до Ісава, сина свого. І пішов Ісав на поле, щоб зловити й принести здобич мисливську.

6 А Ревека сказала Якову, синові своєму, говорячи: „Ось я чула, як твій ба́тько казав до Ісава, брата твого, говорячи:

7 „Принеси но здобич мисливську мені, і зроби мені наїдок смачний, — нехай з'їм, і поблагословлю тебе перед лицем Господнім перед смертю своєю“.

8 А тепер, сину мій, послухай мого голосу, те, що я розкажу́ тобі.

9 Іди до отари, і візьми мені звідти двоє добрих козлят, а я їх приготую, як наїдок смачний для батька твого, як він любить.

10 І принесеш батькові своєму, і бу́де він їсти, щоб поблагословити тебе перед смертю своєю“.

11 І промовив Яків до Ревеки, матері своєї: „Таж брат мій Ісав — чоловік волохатий, а я — чоловік гладенький!

12 Може обмацає мене батько мій, і я стану в очах його як обманець, і спроваджу на себе прокля́ття, а не благослове́ння“.

13 І сказала йому його мати: „На мені прокляття твоє, сину мій! Тільки послухай слів моїх, та йди принеси мені“.

14 І пішов він, і взяв, і приніс своїй матері. І зробила мати його наїдок смачни́й, як любив його ба́тько.

15 I взяла Ревека гарні вбрання́ свого старшого сина Ісава, що були в домі з нею, і вбрала молодшого сина свого Якова.

16 А шкури козлят наділа на руки йому, і на гладеньку шию його.

17 І дала смачний наїдок та хліб, що вона спорядила, у руку Якова, сина свого.

18 І прибув він до ба́тька свого та й сказав: „Батьку мій!“ А той відказав: „Ось я. Хто ти, мій сину?“

19 А Яків промовив до батька свого: „Я Ісав перворідний. Я зробив, як сказав ти мені. Уставай, сядь і попоїж із здо́бичі мисливської, щоб душа́ твоя поблагословила мене“.

20 І сказав Ісак до сина свого: „Як це ти так швидко знайшов, сину мій?“ А той відказав: „Бо мені допоміг Господь, Бог твій“.

21 І промовив Ісак до Якова: „Підійди но, і нехай я обмацаю тебе, сину мій, чи ти — це син мій Ісав, чи ні“.

22 І підійшов Яків до Ісака, батька свого. А той обмацав його та й сказав: „Голос — голос Яковів, а руки — руки Ісавові“.

23 І не впізнав він його, бо були́ його руки — як руки Ісава, брата його, волохаті, і поблагословив він його.

24 І сказав він: „То ти син мій Ісав?“ А той відказав: „Я“.

25 І промовив Ісак: „Подай же мені, і нехай з'їм з мисливської здо́бичі сина мого, щоб поблагословила тебе душа моя“. І подав він йому, і він їв, і приніс йому вина, і він пив.

26 І промовив до нього Ісак, його батько: „Підійди ж, і поцілуй мене, сину мій!“

27 І він підійшов, і поцілував його. А той понюхав запах вбрання його, і поблагословив його, та й сказав: „Дивись, запах сина мого — немов запах поля, що його Господь благословив!

28 І хай Бог тобі дасть з роси Неба, і з ситости землі, і збіжжя багато й вина молодого!

29 Нехай тобі служать наро́ди, і народи нехай тобі кланяються! Будь паном для бра́ттів своїх, і нехай тобі кланяються сини матері твоєї. Хто тебе проклинає — прокля́тий, а хто поблагосло́вить тебе — благослове́нний!“

30 І сталося, як закінчив був Ісак благословляти Якова, і сталося, тільки но вийшов був Яків від обличчя Ісака, батька свого, аж Ісав, його брат, прийшов з полюва́ння свого.

31 І також він приготовив наїдок смачний, і батьку своєму приніс. І сказав він до батька свого: „Нехай встане мій батько, і хай їсть із здобичі мисливської сина свого, щоб душа твоя благословила мене!“

32 І озвався до нього Ісак, його батько: „Хто ти?“ А той відказав: „Я син твій, — твій перворідний Ісав“.

33 І Ісак затремтів тремтінням аж надто великим, та й сказав: „Хто ж тоді той, що мисливську здобич зловив, і до мене приніс, а я попоїв від усього, поки прийшов ти, і я поблагословив його? І він буде благослове́нний!“

34 Як Ісав почув слова́ батька свого, то закричав криком сильним та вельми гірким. І сказав він до батька свого: „Поблагослови мене, — також мене, батьку мій!“

35 А той відказав: „Обманом прийшов був твій брат, та й забрав благослове́ння твоє!“

36 І промовив Ісав: „Тому звалось ім'я́ його: Яків, і він обманив два рази мене: забрав перворідство моє, а це тепер забрав благослове́ння моє“. І сказав він: „Чи ти не заховав для мене благослове́ння?“

37 А Ісак відповів і промовив до Ісава: „Тож я вчинив його паном для тебе, та дав йому всіх братів його за рабів. І я забезпечив його хлібом і молодим вином. А що ж тоді тобі я зроблю́, сину мій?“

38 І сказав Ісав до батька свого: „Чи в тебе одне те благослове́ння, батьку мій? Поблагослови мене, — також мене, батьку мій!“ І підніс Ісав голос свій, та й заплакав...

39 І відповів Ісак, батько його, та й промовив до нього: „Ото буде сади́ба твоя без ситости землі, і без роси небесної згори.

40 І зо свого меча будеш жити, і будеш служити ти брату своєму. Та однако коли постараєшся, то зламаєш ярмо його з шиї своєї...“

41 І знена́видів Ісав Якова через благослове́ння, що поблагословив його батько його. І сказав Ісав у серці своєму: „Нехай наближаться дні жало́би по батьку моєму, — і я вб'ю Якова, брата свого“.

42 І розказано Ревеці слова Ісава, її старшого сина. І послала, і покликала Якова, молодшого сина свого, та й сказала до нього: „Ось Ісав, брат твій, тішиться тим, що уб'є тебе.

43 А тепер, сину мій, послухай мого голосу, — і встань, і втечи собі до Лавана, брата мого, до Харану.

44 І посидиш у нього кілька ча́су, аж поки відвернеться лютість твого брата,

45 аж поки відвернеться гнів твого брата від тебе, і він забуде, що́ ти зробив був йому. Тоді я пошлю й заберу́ тебе звідти. Чого маю я стратити вас обох одного дня?“

46 І сказала Ревека Ісакові: „Життя мені обридло через дочок Хетових. Коли Яків візьме жінку з дочок Хетових, як ці, з дочок цього Краю, то нащо й жити мені?“

Chapter 27

1 AND it came to pass, when Isaac was old and his eyes were dim so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said to him, My son; and he said to him, Behold, here I am.

2 And Isaac said to him, Behold now, I am old, and I do not know the day of my death;

3 Now therefore take your weapons, your sword and your bow, and go out into the field and hunt game;

4 And make me stewed meat, such as I like, and bring it to me, that I may eat, that my soul may bless you before I die.

5 And Rebekah heard when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. So Esau went to the field to hunt game and to bring it.

6 Then Rebekah said to Jacob her son, Behold, I heard your father say to Esau your brother,

7 Bring me game, and make me stewed meat, that I may eat and bless you in the presence of the LORD before I die.

8 Now therefore, my son, listen to me according to that which I command you.

9 Go now to the flock, and bring me from there two kids of the goats; and I will make from them stew for your father, such as he likes;

10 And you shall bring it to your father, that he may eat, and that he may bless you in the presence of the LORD before his death.

11 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man and I am a smooth man;

12 Perhaps my father will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a mocker; and I Shall bring a curse upon myself, and not a blessing.

13 And his mother said to him, Let your curses be upon me, my son; only listen to me, and go and fetch them to me.

14 So he went and picked them up, and brought them to his mother; and his mother made a stew, such as his father liked.

15 And Rebekah took the best clothes of her elder son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son;

16 And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the back of his neck;

17 And she gave the stew and the bread which she had prepared into the hand of her son Jacob.

18 And he brought them in to his father, and said, My father; and he said, Here am I. Then he said, Who are you, my son?

19 And Jacob said to his father, I am Esau, your first-born; I have done as you told me; now arise and sit up and eat of my game, that your soul may bless me.

20 And Isaac said to his son, How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the LORD your God brought it my way.

21 Then Isaac said to Jacob his son, Come near me, that I may feel you, my son, to know whether you are my son Esau or not.

22 And Jacob drew near to Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are Esau's.

23 But he did not recognize him, because his hands were hairy, like his brother Esau's hands; so he blessed him.

24 And he said, Are you my very son Esau? And Jacob said, I am.

25 And he said, Bring the stew near to me, and I will eat of my son's game, that my soul may bless you. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat; and he brought him wine, and he drank.

26 And his father Isaac said to him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son; so he drew near and kissed him;

27 And he came near, and kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his garments, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field which the LORD has blessed;

28 Therefore may God give you of the dew of heaven and the richness of the earth, and the abundance of wheat and wine;

29 Let people serve you, and nations bow down to you; be a prince over your brethren, and let your mother's sons bow down to you; cursed be they who curse you, and blessed be they who bless you.

30 And it came to pass when Isaac had finished blessing Jacob and Jacob had gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, behold, Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

31 And he also made stew, and brought it to his father, and said to his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's game, that your soul may bless me.

32 And Isaac his father said to him, Who are you? And he said, I am your son, your first-born, Esau.

33 And Isaac was greatly alarmed, and said, Who was it then that hunted game and brought it to me? I have eaten of everything before you came, and I have blessed him, yea, and he shall be blessed.

34 And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried out bitterly, and said to his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.

35 But his father said, Your brother came with deceit, and has already received your blessing.

36 And Esau said, Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has acted treacherously toward me twice: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he has taken away my blessing. And Esau said to his father, Have you not reserved a blessing for me?

37 And Isaac answered and said to Esau, Behold, I have made him a prince over you, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with wheat and wine have I sustained him; and what shall I do now for you, my son?

38 And Esau said to his father, Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.

39 And Isaac his father answered and said to him, Behold, your dwelling shall be in the fertile places of the earth, and the dew of heaven shall fall upon you from above;

40 And by your sword you shall live, and you shall serve your brother; but if you shall repent, his yoke shall pass away from off your neck.

41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessings with which his father had blessed him; and Esau said in his heart, After the days of mourning for my father are over, then I will slay my brother Jacob.

42 And the words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah; so she sent and called her younger son Jacob, and said to him, Behold, your brother Esau is threatening to kill you.

43 Now therefore, my son, hearken to me; and arise, and go to Laban my brother, to Haran;

44 And stay there a few days, until your brother's fury is spent;

45 Until your brother's anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him; then I will send messengers, and bring you back from there; lest I be deprived also of both of you in one day.

46 Then Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth; if Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good will my life be to me?

2 And Isaac said to him, Behold now, I am old, and I do not know the day of my death;

3 А тепер візьми знаряддя своє, — сагайдака свого й лука свого, та й вийди на поле, і злови мені здо́бич мисливську.

3 Now therefore take your weapons, your sword and your bow, and go out into the field and hunt game;

4 І зготуй мені наїдок смачний, як я люблю́, і принеси мені, і нехай я з'їм, щоб поблагословила тебе душа моя, поки помру“.

4 And make me stewed meat, such as I like, and bring it to me, that I may eat, that my soul may bless you before I die.

5 And Rebekah heard when Isaac spoke to Esau his son. So Esau went to the field to hunt game and to bring it.

6 А Ревека сказала Якову, синові своєму, говорячи: „Ось я чула, як твій ба́тько казав до Ісава, брата твого, говорячи:

6 Then Rebekah said to Jacob her son, Behold, I heard your father say to Esau your brother,

7 „Принеси но здобич мисливську мені, і зроби мені наїдок смачний, — нехай з'їм, і поблагословлю тебе перед лицем Господнім перед смертю своєю“.

7 Bring me game, and make me stewed meat, that I may eat and bless you in the presence of the LORD before I die.

8 А тепер, сину мій, послухай мого голосу, те, що я розкажу́ тобі.

8 Now therefore, my son, listen to me according to that which I command you.

9 Іди до отари, і візьми мені звідти двоє добрих козлят, а я їх приготую, як наїдок смачний для батька твого, як він любить.

9 Go now to the flock, and bring me from there two kids of the goats; and I will make from them stew for your father, such as he likes;

10 І принесеш батькові своєму, і бу́де він їсти, щоб поблагословити тебе перед смертю своєю“.

10 And you shall bring it to your father, that he may eat, and that he may bless you in the presence of the LORD before his death.

11 І промовив Яків до Ревеки, матері своєї: „Таж брат мій Ісав — чоловік волохатий, а я — чоловік гладенький!

11 And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man and I am a smooth man;

12 Може обмацає мене батько мій, і я стану в очах його як обманець, і спроваджу на себе прокля́ття, а не благослове́ння“.

12 Perhaps my father will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a mocker; and I Shall bring a curse upon myself, and not a blessing.

13 І сказала йому його мати: „На мені прокляття твоє, сину мій! Тільки послухай слів моїх, та йди принеси мені“.

13 And his mother said to him, Let your curses be upon me, my son; only listen to me, and go and fetch them to me.

14 І пішов він, і взяв, і приніс своїй матері. І зробила мати його наїдок смачни́й, як любив його ба́тько.

14 So he went and picked them up, and brought them to his mother; and his mother made a stew, such as his father liked.

15 I взяла Ревека гарні вбрання́ свого старшого сина Ісава, що були в домі з нею, і вбрала молодшого сина свого Якова.

15 And Rebekah took the best clothes of her elder son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son;

16 А шкури козлят наділа на руки йому, і на гладеньку шию його.

16 And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the back of his neck;

17 І дала смачний наїдок та хліб, що вона спорядила, у руку Якова, сина свого.

17 And she gave the stew and the bread which she had prepared into the hand of her son Jacob.

18 І прибув він до ба́тька свого та й сказав: „Батьку мій!“ А той відказав: „Ось я. Хто ти, мій сину?“

18 And he brought them in to his father, and said, My father; and he said, Here am I. Then he said, Who are you, my son?

19 А Яків промовив до батька свого: „Я Ісав перворідний. Я зробив, як сказав ти мені. Уставай, сядь і попоїж із здо́бичі мисливської, щоб душа́ твоя поблагословила мене“.

19 And Jacob said to his father, I am Esau, your first-born; I have done as you told me; now arise and sit up and eat of my game, that your soul may bless me.

20 І сказав Ісак до сина свого: „Як це ти так швидко знайшов, сину мій?“ А той відказав: „Бо мені допоміг Господь, Бог твій“.

20 And Isaac said to his son, How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the LORD your God brought it my way.

21 І промовив Ісак до Якова: „Підійди но, і нехай я обмацаю тебе, сину мій, чи ти — це син мій Ісав, чи ні“.

21 Then Isaac said to Jacob his son, Come near me, that I may feel you, my son, to know whether you are my son Esau or not.

22 І підійшов Яків до Ісака, батька свого. А той обмацав його та й сказав: „Голос — голос Яковів, а руки — руки Ісавові“.

22 And Jacob drew near to Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are Esau's.

23 І не впізнав він його, бо були́ його руки — як руки Ісава, брата його, волохаті, і поблагословив він його.

23 But he did not recognize him, because his hands were hairy, like his brother Esau's hands; so he blessed him.

24 І сказав він: „То ти син мій Ісав?“ А той відказав: „Я“.

24 And he said, Are you my very son Esau? And Jacob said, I am.

25 І промовив Ісак: „Подай же мені, і нехай з'їм з мисливської здо́бичі сина мого, щоб поблагословила тебе душа моя“. І подав він йому, і він їв, і приніс йому вина, і він пив.

25 And he said, Bring the stew near to me, and I will eat of my son's game, that my soul may bless you. And he brought it near to him, and he did eat; and he brought him wine, and he drank.

26 І промовив до нього Ісак, його батько: „Підійди ж, і поцілуй мене, сину мій!“

26 And his father Isaac said to him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son; so he drew near and kissed him;

27 І він підійшов, і поцілував його. А той понюхав запах вбрання його, і поблагословив його, та й сказав: „Дивись, запах сина мого — немов запах поля, що його Господь благословив!

27 And he came near, and kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his garments, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field which the LORD has blessed;

28 І хай Бог тобі дасть з роси Неба, і з ситости землі, і збіжжя багато й вина молодого!

28 Therefore may God give you of the dew of heaven and the richness of the earth, and the abundance of wheat and wine;

29 Нехай тобі служать наро́ди, і народи нехай тобі кланяються! Будь паном для бра́ттів своїх, і нехай тобі кланяються сини матері твоєї. Хто тебе проклинає — прокля́тий, а хто поблагосло́вить тебе — благослове́нний!“

29 Let people serve you, and nations bow down to you; be a prince over your brethren, and let your mother's sons bow down to you; cursed be they who curse you, and blessed be they who bless you.

30 І сталося, як закінчив був Ісак благословляти Якова, і сталося, тільки но вийшов був Яків від обличчя Ісака, батька свого, аж Ісав, його брат, прийшов з полюва́ння свого.

30 And it came to pass when Isaac had finished blessing Jacob and Jacob had gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, behold, Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

31 І також він приготовив наїдок смачний, і батьку своєму приніс. І сказав він до батька свого: „Нехай встане мій батько, і хай їсть із здобичі мисливської сина свого, щоб душа твоя благословила мене!“

31 And he also made stew, and brought it to his father, and said to his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son's game, that your soul may bless me.

32 І озвався до нього Ісак, його батько: „Хто ти?“ А той відказав: „Я син твій, — твій перворідний Ісав“.

32 And Isaac his father said to him, Who are you? And he said, I am your son, your first-born, Esau.

33 І Ісак затремтів тремтінням аж надто великим, та й сказав: „Хто ж тоді той, що мисливську здобич зловив, і до мене приніс, а я попоїв від усього, поки прийшов ти, і я поблагословив його? І він буде благослове́нний!“

33 And Isaac was greatly alarmed, and said, Who was it then that hunted game and brought it to me? I have eaten of everything before you came, and I have blessed him, yea, and he shall be blessed.

34 Як Ісав почув слова́ батька свого, то закричав криком сильним та вельми гірким. І сказав він до батька свого: „Поблагослови мене, — також мене, батьку мій!“

34 And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried out bitterly, and said to his father, Bless me, even me also, O my father.

35 А той відказав: „Обманом прийшов був твій брат, та й забрав благослове́ння твоє!“

35 But his father said, Your brother came with deceit, and has already received your blessing.

36 І промовив Ісав: „Тому звалось ім'я́ його: Яків, і він обманив два рази мене: забрав перворідство моє, а це тепер забрав благослове́ння моє“. І сказав він: „Чи ти не заховав для мене благослове́ння?“

36 And Esau said, Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has acted treacherously toward me twice: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he has taken away my blessing. And Esau said to his father, Have you not reserved a blessing for me?

37 А Ісак відповів і промовив до Ісава: „Тож я вчинив його паном для тебе, та дав йому всіх братів його за рабів. І я забезпечив його хлібом і молодим вином. А що ж тоді тобі я зроблю́, сину мій?“

37 And Isaac answered and said to Esau, Behold, I have made him a prince over you, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with wheat and wine have I sustained him; and what shall I do now for you, my son?

38 І сказав Ісав до батька свого: „Чи в тебе одне те благослове́ння, батьку мій? Поблагослови мене, — також мене, батьку мій!“ І підніс Ісав голос свій, та й заплакав...

38 And Esau said to his father, Have you only one blessing, my father? Bless me, even me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.

39 І відповів Ісак, батько його, та й промовив до нього: „Ото буде сади́ба твоя без ситости землі, і без роси небесної згори.

40 And by your sword you shall live, and you shall serve your brother; but if you shall repent, his yoke shall pass away from off your neck.

41 І знена́видів Ісав Якова через благослове́ння, що поблагословив його батько його. І сказав Ісав у серці своєму: „Нехай наближаться дні жало́би по батьку моєму, — і я вб'ю Якова, брата свого“.

41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessings with which his father had blessed him; and Esau said in his heart, After the days of mourning for my father are over, then I will slay my brother Jacob.

42 І розказано Ревеці слова Ісава, її старшого сина. І послала, і покликала Якова, молодшого сина свого, та й сказала до нього: „Ось Ісав, брат твій, тішиться тим, що уб'є тебе.

42 And the words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah; so she sent and called her younger son Jacob, and said to him, Behold, your brother Esau is threatening to kill you.

43 А тепер, сину мій, послухай мого голосу, — і встань, і втечи собі до Лавана, брата мого, до Харану.

43 Now therefore, my son, hearken to me; and arise, and go to Laban my brother, to Haran;

44 І посидиш у нього кілька ча́су, аж поки відвернеться лютість твого брата,

44 And stay there a few days, until your brother's fury is spent;

45 аж поки відвернеться гнів твого брата від тебе, і він забуде, що́ ти зробив був йому. Тоді я пошлю й заберу́ тебе звідти. Чого маю я стратити вас обох одного дня?“

45 Until your brother's anger turns away from you, and he forgets what you have done to him; then I will send messengers, and bring you back from there; lest I be deprived also of both of you in one day.

46 І сказала Ревека Ісакові: „Життя мені обридло через дочок Хетових. Коли Яків візьме жінку з дочок Хетових, як ці, з дочок цього Краю, то нащо й жити мені?“

46 Then Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth; if Jacob takes a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these which are of the daughters of the land, what good will my life be to me?
