1 Старшого не докоря́й, але вмовляй, немов ба́тька, а молодших — як братів,

2 старших жіно́к — немов матіро́к, молодших — як сесте́р, зо всякою чистістю.

3 Шануй вді́в, уді́в правдивих.

4 А як має вдови́ця яка дітей чи внучат, нехай у́чаться перше побожно шанувати роди́ну свою, і віддячуватися батькам, бо це Богові вгодно.

5 А вдови́ця правдива й само́тня надію складає на Бога, та перебуває день і ніч у молитвах і блага́ннях.

6 А котра́ у розко́шах живе, — та живою померла.

7 І це наказуй, щоб були́ непорочні.

8 Коли ж хто про своїх, особливо ж про дома́шніх не дбає, той вирікся віри, і він гірший від невірного.

9 А вдову вно́сити до спи́ску не менше, як шістдесятлітню, що була́ за дружи́ну одно́му чоловікові,

10 засвідчену в добрих ділах, якщо дітей ви́ховала, якщо подорожніх приймала, якщо но́ги святим умивала, якщо помагала обездо́леним, якщо всякий добрий учинок виконувала.

11 Але вдів молодих не приймай, бо вони, розпали́вшися, хо́чуть, наперекі́р Христові, заміж вихо́дити,

12 через що мають о́суд, бо від першої віри відкинулись.

13 А ра́зом із тим неробі́тні вони, бо вчаться ходити по домах, і не тільки неробітні, але й лепетли́ві, і занадто цікаві, і гово́рять, чого не годи́ться.

14 Отож бо, я хочу, щоб молодші заміж вихо́дили, родили дітей, домом ря́дили, не давали противникові ані жодного по́воду для лихомовства.

15 Бо вже дехто пішли слідом за сатаною.

16 А коли має вдів який вірний, нехай їх утримує, а Церква нехай не обтяжується, щоб могла вона втримувати вдів правдивих.

17 А пресвітери, які добре пильнують діла, нехай будуть наділені подвійною честю, а надто ті, хто працює у слові й науці.

18 Бо каже Писа́ння: „Не в'яжи рота волові, що молотить“, та: „Вартий працівни́к своєї нагоро́ди.

19 Не приймай скарги проти пресві́тера, хібащо при двох чи трьох свідках.

20 А тих, хто грішить, картай перед усіма́, щоб і інші страх мали.

21 Заклинаю тебе перед Богом й Ісусом Христом та ви́браними а́нголами, щоб ти заховав це без лицемі́рства, нічого не ро́блячи з упере́дженням.

22 Не рукопоклада́й скоро ніко́го, і не приставай до чужих гріхів. Бережи себе чистим!

23 Води більше не пий, але трохи вина заживай ради шлу́нка твого́ та частих неду́гів твоїх.

24 У інших людей гріхи явні і йдуть перед ними на о́суд, а за іншими йдуть слідкома́.

25 Явні так само й добрі діла, а ті, що інші, сховатись не можуть.

1 Timothy

Chapter 5

1 Rebuke1969 not an elder,4245 but entreat3870 him as a father;3962 and the younger3501 men as brothers;80

2 The elder4245 women as mothers;3384 the younger3501 as sisters,79 with all3956 purity.47

3 Honor5091 widows5503 that are widows5503 indeed.3689

4 But if1487 any5100 widow5503 have2192 children5043 or2228 nephews,1549 let them learn3129 first4412 to show2151 piety2151 at home,2398 and to requite287 591 their parents:4269 for that is good2570 and acceptable587 before1799 God.2316

5 Now1161 she that is a widow5503 indeed,3689 and desolate,3443 trusts1679 in God,2316 and continues4357 in supplications1162 and prayers4335 night3571 and day.2250

6 But she that lives2198 in pleasure4684 is dead2348 while she lives.2198

7 And these5023 things give in charge,3853 that they may be blameless.423

8 But if1487 any5100 provide4306 not for his own,2398 and specially3122 for those3588 of his own2398 house,3609 he has denied720 the faith,4102 and is worse5501 than an infidel.571

9 Let not a widow5503 be taken2639 into the number2639 under1640 three score1835 years2094 old, having2192 been1096 the wife1135 of one1520 man.435

10 Well3140 reported3140 of for good2570 works;2041 if1487 she have2192 brought5044 up children,5044 if1487 she have2192 lodged3580 strangers,3580 if1487 she have2192 washed3538 the saints'40 feet,4228 if1487 she have2192 relieved1884 the afflicted,2346 if1487 she have2192 diligently followed1872 every3956 good18 work.2041

11 But the younger3501 widows5503 refuse:3868 for when3752 they have begun2691 to wax2691 wanton2691 against2691 Christ,5547 they will2309 marry;1060

12 Having2192 damnation,2917 because3754 they have cast114 off114 their first4413 faith.4102

13 And with260 they learn3129 to be idle,692 wandering4022 about4022 from house3614 to house;3614 and not only3440 idle,692 but tattlers5397 also2532 and busybodies,4021 speaking2980 things which3588 they ought1163 not.

14 I will1014 therefore3767 that the younger3501 women marry,1060 bear5041 children,5041 guide3616 the house,3616 give1325 none3361 occasion874 to the adversary480 to speak reproachfully5484 3059.

15 For some5100 are already2235 turned1624 aside1624 after3694 Satan.4567

16 If1487 any1536 man or2228 woman that believes4103 have2192 widows,5503 let them relieve1884 them, and let not the church1577 be charged;916 that it may relieve1884 them that are widows5503 indeed.3689

17 Let the elders4245 that rule4291 well2573 be counted515 worthy515 of double1362 honor,5092 especially3122 they who labor2872 in the word3056 and doctrine.1319

18 For the scripture1124 said,3004 You shall not muzzle5392 the ox1016 that treads248 out the corn. And, The laborer2040 is worthy514 of his reward.3408

19 Against2596 an elder4245 receive3858 not an accusation,2724 but before1909 two1417 or2228 three5140 witnesses.3144

20 Them that sin264 rebuke1651 before1799 all,3956 that others3062 also2532 may fear.5401 2192

21 I charge1263 you before1799 God,2316 and the Lord2962 Jesus2424 Christ,5547 and the elect1588 angels,32 that you observe5442 these5023 things without5565 preferring4299 one before4299 another,4299 doing4160 nothing3367 by partiality.4346

22 Lay2007 hands5495 suddenly5030 on2007 no3367 man,3367 neither3366 be partaker2841 of other245 men's sins:266 keep5083 yourself4572 pure.53

23 Drink5202 no3371 longer3371 water,5202 but use5530 a little3641 wine3631 for your stomach's4751 sake and your4675 often4437 infirmities.769

24 Some5100 men's sins266 are open4271 beforehand,4271 going4254 before4254 to judgment;2920 and some5100 men444 they follow1872 after.1872

23 Води більше не пий, але трохи вина заживай ради шлу́нка твого́ та частих неду́гів твоїх.

23 Drink5202 no3371 longer3371 water,5202 but use5530 a little3641 wine3631 for your stomach's4751 sake and your4675 often4437 infirmities.769

24 У інших людей гріхи явні і йдуть перед ними на о́суд, а за іншими йдуть слідкома́.
