Глава 2

1 После этого Давид вопросил ГОСПОДА, идти ли ему в один из городов Иудеи. ГОСПОДЬ ответил ему: «Иди». Тогда Давид спросил, куда ему идти. «В Хеврон», — был ответ.

2 Давид пошел туда, взяв с собой обеих жен: Ахиноам из Изреэля и Авигаиль, бывшую жену Навала с Кармила.

3 Взял он с собой и своих людей с семьями, чтобы и они поселились в окрестностях Хеврона.

4 Когда иудеи собрались там, они помазали Давида в цари над коленом Иуды. Там же, в Хевроне, Давиду сообщили, что Саула похоронили жители города Явеша Гиладского.

5 Давид отправил гонцов к жителям Явеша Гиладского с вестью: «Благословенны вы у ГОСПОДА, что праведно, милостиво поступили с владыкой вашим Саулом, похоронив его.

6 Пусть за это явит ГОСПОДЬ вам Свою неизменную милость, и я тоже буду поступать с вами по-доброму за то, что вы сделали.

7 Теперь крепитесь и мужайтесь, потому что владыка ваш Саул умер, а меня потомки Иуды помазали в цари над Иудеей».

8 Но Авнер, сын Нера, что командовал войском Саула, взял Иевосфея, сына Саула, и привел в Маханаим.

9 Он поставил его царем над Гиладом, Ашуром, Изреэлем, Ефремом, Вениамином и всем Израилем.

10 Сыну Саула Иевосфею было сорок лет, когда он взошел на израильский престол, и царствовал он два года, однако колено Иуды следовало за Давидом.

11 Давид был царем в Хевроне и правил над коленом Иуды семь лет и шесть месяцев.

12 Авнер, сын Нера, вместе с воинами Иевосфея выступил из Маханаима к Гивону.

13 А Йоав, сын Церуи, двинулся им навстречу с воинами Давида, и сошлись они у Гивонского пруда: одни стояли по эту сторону пруда, другие — по ту.

14 Авнер сказал Йоаву: «Пусть воины выйдут на поединок и сразятся перед нами!» «Пусть выйдут!» — ответил Йоав.

15 Тогда поднялись и сошлись в бою двенадцать воинов из колена Вениамина за Иевосфея, сына Саула, и двенадцать из тех, кто служил Давиду.

16 Каждый схватил своего противника за затылок и вонзил своему противнику меч в бок, так что в одночасье пали и те, и другие. А место это получило название Хелкат-Хаццурим, что в Гивоне.

17 В тот день было жестокое сражение, и Авнер с воинами Израиля потерпел поражение от людей, служивших Давиду.

18 В той битве сражались и три сына Церуи: Йоав, Авишай и Асахэль. Асахэль был быстроногим, словно дикая серна.

19 Он погнался за Авнером и преследовал его, не сворачивая ни вправо, ни влево.

20 Авнер, обернувшись, спросил: «Ты ли это, Асахэль?» Тот ответил: «Да, я».

21 «Сверни лучше в сторону, — предложил ему Авнер, — захвати кого-нибудь из воинов и сними с него доспехи себе в добычу». Но Асахэль не отставал.

22 «Отстань, не преследуй меня, — снова предупредил его Авнер, — а не то мне придется убить тебя — и как я потом буду смотреть в глаза твоему брату Йоаву?»

23 Но тот не отставал. Тогда Авнер ударил его древком копья в живот, и копье прошло насквозь, так что он упал и тут же умер. И все, кто ни подходил к тому месту, где Асахэль пал замертво, останавливались.

24 А Йоав и Авишай пустились вслед за Авнером. Солнце уже зашло, когда они добрались до холма Амма, что перед Гиахом, по дороге к Гивонской пустыне.

25 Там вениаминитяне собрались вокруг Авнера в единый отряд и заняли вершину одного из холмов.

26 Авнер обратился к Йоаву с такими словами: «Вечно ли меч будет пожирать людей? Разве ты не знаешь, как горько будет потом? Когда ты наконец велишь твоим людям прекратить гнаться за своими братьями?»

27 Йоав ответил: «Богом клянусь, если бы ты не сказал этого, с утра люди снова погнались бы за своими братьями».

28 Йоав протрубил в рог, весь народ остановился и прекратил преследовать израильтян. Так утихло сражение.

29 Авнер со своими людьми шел всю ночь: они прошли по Иорданской долине, переправились через реку, прошли весь Битрон и добрались до Маханаима.

30 А Йоав вернулся из погони за Авнером и собрал всё войско. В рядах тех, кто служил Давиду, недосчитались девятнадцати человек и еще Асахэля.

31 Зато сторонники Давида сразили на смерть триста шестьдесят вениаминитян и людей Авнера.

32 Асахэля подобрали и похоронили в гробнице его отца в Вифлееме. А Йоав со своими людьми шел всю ночь, так что рассвет застал их в Хевроне.

Chapter 2

1 AND it came to pass after this, that David inquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to one of the cities of Judah? And the LORD said to him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, To Hebron.

2 So David went up there, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail, Nabal's wife, the Carmelite.

3 And David and his men who were with him went up together, every man with his household; and they dwelt in Hebron.

4 And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, It was the men of Jabesh-gilead who buried Saul.

5 And David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh-gilead and said to them, Blessed be you of the LORD, that you have shown this kindness to your lord, even to Saul, and have buried him.

6 And now may the LORD show kindness and truth to you; and I also will requite you this kindness, because you have done this thing.

7 Therefore now let your hands be strengthened and be valiant; for your master Saul is dead, and the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.

8 But Abner the son of Ner, commander of Saul's army, took Ashbashul, the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim;

9 And made him king over Gilead and over Geshur and over Jezreel and over Ephraim and over Benjamin and over all Israel.

10 Ashbashul Saul's son was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David.

11 And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

12 And Abner the son of Ner and the servants of Ashbashul the son of Saul went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.

13 And Joab the son of Zoriah and the men of David went out and met the young men together in Gibeon; and they sat down, these young men on the one side and the other young men on the other.

14 And Abner said to Joab, Let the young men now arise and play before us. And Joab said, Let them arise.

15 Then there arose and went over by number twelve of the men of Benjamin, who belonged to Ashbashul the son of Saul and twelve of the men of David.

16 And every man caught his fellow by the head, and thrust his sword in the other's side; so they fell down together; therefore they called that place Haklath-zadan, which is in Gibeon.

17 And there was a very fierce battle that day; and Abner was defeated, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David.

18 And there were three sons of Zoriah there, Joab, Abishai, and Ashael; and Ashael was as swift of foot as a desert gazelle.

19 And Ashael pursued Abner; and he turned not to the right hand nor to the left as he followed Abner.

20 Then Abner looked behind him and said, Is that you, Ashael? And he answered, It is I.

21 And Abner said to him, Turn aside to your right hand or to your left, and seize one of the young men and take for yourself his armor. But Ashael would not turn aside from following him.

22 And Abner spoke again to Ashael, to turn from following him, saying, Turn from following me, lest I smite you and throw you on the ground; how then could I lift up my face and look at Joab your brother.

23 But he refused to turn; therefore Abner smote him with the end of the spear upon his breast, and the spear came out at his back; and he fell down there and died in the same place; and all who came to the place where Ashael fell down and died stood still.

24 Then Joab and Abishai arose and pursued Abner; and the sun went down when they came to lake Giboath which lies before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.

25 And the Benjamites gathered themselves together behind Abner, and became one company, and stood on the top of a hill.

26 Then Abner called to Joab and said, Shall the sword devour forever? Do you not know that there will be bitterness in the end? How long will it be then before you bid the people return from following their brethren?

27 And Joab said, As the LORD lives, unless you had spoken, surely in the morning I would have let the people give up every one from pursuing his brother.

28 So Joab blew the trumpet, and all the people stood still and pursued Israel no more, neither did they fight any more.

29 And Abner and his men walked all that night in the desert, and crossed the Jordan, and went toward Geshur, and they came to Mahanaim.

30 And Joab returned from following Abner; and when he had gathered all the people together and they were numbered, there were twelve wounded of David's men, and Ashael was dead.

31 But the men of David had slain of Benjamin and of Abner, three hundred and sixty men.

32 And they took Ashael and buried him in the sepulchre of his father in Beth-lehem. And Joab and his men marched all night, and the day dawned upon them at Hebron.

11 And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.
