Chapter 3

1 AND Solomon became the son-in-law to Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter and brought her into the city of David, until he had finished building his own house and the house of the LORD and the wall of Jerusalem round about.

2 The people sacrificed only in high places, because there was no house yet built to the name of the LORD, until those days.

3 And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father; only he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.

4 And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place; a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon the altar which was in Gibeon.

5 Then the LORD appeared to Solomon in a vision by night; and God said to him, Ask that which I should give you.

6 And Solomon said, Thou hast shown to thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth and in faithfulness and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne as it is this day.

7 And now, O LORD God, thou hast made thy servant king in place of David my father; and I am but a little child; I know not how to go out or come in among thy people, whom thou hast chosen,

8 A great people that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.

9 Give therefore to thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people and to discern between good and bad; for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?

10 And it pleased the LORD because Solomon had asked this thing.

11 And the LORD said to Solomon, Because you have asked this thing and have not asked for yourself riches, neither have you asked the lives of your enemies nor have you asked for yourself long life, but have asked for yourself wisdom to discern judgment;

12 Behold, I have done according to your words; lo, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has been none like you before you, neither shall any arise after you like you.

13 And I have also given you that which you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there shall not be any among the kings like you all your days.

14 And if you will walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as your father David did walk, then I will lengthen your days.

15 And Solomon awoke; and, behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD and offered up burnt offerings and peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants.

16 Then came there two women who were harlots to plead before King Solomon.

17 And one of them said, I beseech you, O my lord, I and this woman dwelt in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.

18 And on the third day after I was delivered, this woman was delivered also; and we were together in the house; there was no stranger with us, only we two in the house.

19 And this woman's child died in the night because she lay on it.

20 And she arose at midnight and took my son from beside me while your handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead son in my bosom.

21 And when I rose in the morning to nurse my son, behold, it was dead; but when I had examined it in the morning, behold, it was not my son which I had borne.

22 And the other woman said, It is not so; but the living is my son, and the dead is your son. And this one said, It is not so; the dead is your son, and the living is my son.

23 And the other woman said, It is not so, the living is my son and the dead is your son. Thus they argued before the king.

24 Then the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.

25 And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one and half to the other.

26 Then the woman whose child was alive said to the king, because her affections yearned for her son, I beseech you, O my lord, give her the child alive, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor yours, but divide it in two.

27 Then the king answered and said, Give the child alive to the first woman and in no wise slay it; she is the mother thereof.

28 And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king; for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do justice.

5 В Гаваоне1391 явился7200 Господь3068 Соломону8010 во сне2472 ночью,3915 и сказал559 Бог:430 проси,7592 что дать5414 тебе.

6 И сказал559 Соломон:8010 Ты сделал6213 рабу5650 Твоему Давиду,1732 отцу1 моему, великую1419 милость;2617 и за то, что он ходил1980 пред3942 Тобою в истине571 и правде6666 и с искренним3483 сердцем3824 пред Тобою, Ты сохранил8104 ему эту великую1419 милость2617 и даровал5414 ему сына,1121 который сидел3427 бы на престоле3678 его, как это и есть ныне;

7 и ныне, Господи3068 Боже430 мой, Ты поставил4427 раба5650 Твоего царем4427 вместо Давида,1732 отца1 моего; но я отрок5288 малый,6996 не знаю3045 ни моего выхода,3318 ни входа;935

8 и раб5650 Твой — среди8432 народа5971 Твоего, который избрал977 Ты, народа5971 столь многочисленного,7227 что по множеству7230 его нельзя ни исчислить4487 его, ни обозреть;5608

9 даруй5414 же рабу5650 Твоему сердце3820 разумное,8085 чтобы судить8199 народ5971 Твой и различать,995 что добро2896 и что зло;7451 ибо кто может3201 управлять8199 этим многочисленным3515 народом5971 Твоим?

10 И благоугодно31905869 было Господу,136 что Соломон8010 просил7592 этого.

11 И сказал559 ему Бог:430 за то, что ты просил7592 этого и не просил7592 себе долгой7227 жизни,3117 не просил7592 себе богатства,6239 не просил7592 себе душ5315 врагов341 твоих, но просил7592 себе разума,995 чтоб уметь8085 судить,4941 —

12 вот, Я сделаю6213 по слову1697 твоему: вот, Я даю5414 тебе сердце3820 мудрое2450 и разумное,995 так что подобного тебе не было прежде3942 тебя, и после310 тебя не восстанет6965 подобный тебе;

13 и то, чего ты не просил,7592 Я даю5414 тебе, и богатство6239 и славу,3519 так что не будет подобного тебе между царями4428 во все дни3117 твои;

14 и если будешь3212 ходить3212 путем1870 Моим, сохраняя8104 уставы2706 Мои и заповеди4687 Мои, как ходил1980 отец1 твой Давид,1732 Я продолжу748 и дни3117 твои.

15 И пробудился3364 Соломон,8010 и вот, это было сновидение.2472 И пошел935 он в Иерусалим3389 и стал5975 пред3942 ковчегом727 завета1285 Господня,3068 и принес5927 всесожжения5930 и совершил6213 жертвы мирные,8002 и сделал6213 большой пир4960 для всех слуг5650 своих.

17 И сказала559 одна259 женщина:802 о,994 господин113 мой! я и эта женщина802 живем3427 в одном259 доме;1004 и я родила3205 при ней в этом доме;1004

18 на третий7992 день3117 после того, как я родила,3205 родила3205 и эта женщина;802 и были мы вместе,3162 и в доме1004 никого постороннего2114 с нами не было; только2108 мы две8147 были в доме;1004

19 и умер4191 сын1121 этой женщины802 ночью,3915 ибо она заспала7901 его;

20 и встала6965 она ночью,84323915 и взяла3947 сына1121 моего от меня, когда я, раба519 твоя, спала,3463 и положила7901 его к своей груди,2436 а своего мертвого4191 сына1121 положила7901 к моей груди;2436

27 И отвечал6030 царь4428 и сказал:559 отдайте5414 этой живое2416 дитя,3205 и не умерщвляйте4191 его: она — его мать.517

28 И услышал8085 весь Израиль3478 о суде,4941 как рассудил8199 царь;4428 и стали3372 бояться3372 царя,6440 ибо увидели,7200 что мудрость2451 Божия430 в нем, чтобы производить6213 суд.4941

4 And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place; a thousand burnt offerings did Solomon offer upon the altar which was in Gibeon.

9 Give therefore to thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people and to discern between good and bad; for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?

10 And it pleased the LORD because Solomon had asked this thing.

11 And the LORD said to Solomon, Because you have asked this thing and have not asked for yourself riches, neither have you asked the lives of your enemies nor have you asked for yourself long life, but have asked for yourself wisdom to discern judgment;

11 И сказал559 ему Бог:430 за то, что ты просил7592 этого и не просил7592 себе долгой7227 жизни,3117 не просил7592 себе богатства,6239 не просил7592 себе душ5315 врагов341 твоих, но просил7592 себе разума,995 чтоб уметь8085 судить,4941 —

12 Behold, I have done according to your words; lo, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has been none like you before you, neither shall any arise after you like you.

12 вот, Я сделаю6213 по слову1697 твоему: вот, Я даю5414 тебе сердце3820 мудрое2450 и разумное,995 так что подобного тебе не было прежде3942 тебя, и после310 тебя не восстанет6965 подобный тебе;

13 And I have also given you that which you have not asked, both riches and honor, so that there shall not be any among the kings like you all your days.

13 и то, чего ты не просил,7592 Я даю5414 тебе, и богатство6239 и славу,3519 так что не будет подобного тебе между царями4428 во все дни3117 твои;

14 And if you will walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as your father David did walk, then I will lengthen your days.

23 And the other woman said, It is not so, the living is my son and the dead is your son. Thus they argued before the king.

24 Then the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.

25 And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one and half to the other.

27 Then the king answered and said, Give the child alive to the first woman and in no wise slay it; she is the mother thereof.

27 И отвечал6030 царь4428 и сказал:559 отдайте5414 этой живое2416 дитя,3205 и не умерщвляйте4191 его: она — его мать.517

28 And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king; for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him, to do justice.
