Chapter 20

1 AND Bar-hadad the king of Edom gathered all his army together; and there were thirty-two kings with him, and horses and chariots; and he went up and besieged Samaria and fought against it.

2 And he sent messengers to Ahab king of Israel, and said to him, Thus says Bar-hadad,

3 Your silver and your gold are mine; and the most attractive of your wives and your children are mine also.

4 And the king of Israel answered and said, According to your word, my lord, O king, I am yours, and all that I have.

5 And the messengers came again, and said, Thus says Bar-hadad, Although I sent to you at first, saying, You shall deliver to me your silver and your gold and your wives and your children;

6 Yet I will send my servants to you tomorrow at about this time, and they shall search your house and the houses of your servants; and whatsoever pleases them, they shall take in their hands and bring back.

7 Then the king of Israel called all the elders of the land and said to them, Know, and see how this man seeks mischief; for he sent to me for my wives and for my children and for my silver and for my gold; and I denied him not.

8 And all the elders and all the people said to him, Do not hearken to him, nor consent.

9 Wherefore he said to the messengers of Bar-hadad, Tell my lord the king, All that you did send for to your servant at the first I will do; but this thing I cannot do. And the messengers departed and brought him word again.

10 And Bar-hadad sent to him and said, The gods do so to me, and more also, if the dust of Samaria in handfuls shall suffice for all the people who are with me.

11 And the king of Israel answered and said, Let him talk; nevertheless, the one who ties a knot is not more able than the one who can untie it.

12 And when Bar-hadad heard this message as he was drinking, he and the kings in the pavilions, he said to his servants, Set yourselves in array against the city.

13 And, behold, a prophet drew near to Ahab king of Israel and said to him, Thus says the LORD, Have you seen all this great army? Behold, I will deliver it into your hands this day; and you shall know that I am the LORD.

14 And Ahab said, By whom? And he said to him, By the young men and by the princes of the city. Then he said, Who shall begin the battle? And he answered, You.

15 Then he numbered the young men and the princes of the city, and they were two hundred and thirty-two; and after them he numbered all the people, even all the children of Israel, being seven thousand.

16 And they went out at noon, but Bar-hadad was drinking old wine in the pavilions, he and the kings, the thirty-two kings who were come to help him.

17 And the young men and the princes of the city went out first; and Bar-hadad sent out men, and they told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.

18 And he said, Whether they have come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they have come out for war, take them alive.

19 So these young men and these princes came out of the city, and the army followed them.

20 And they slew every one his man; and the Arameans fled; and Israel pursued them; and Bar-hadad the king of Aram escaped in chariots with horsemen.

21 And the king of Israel went out and destroyed the horses and chariots, and slew the Arameans with a great slaughter.

22 And, behold, the prophet of God came near to Ahab king of Israel, and said to him, Go, strengthen yourself, and know, and see what you have to do; for at the beginning of the year the king of Aram will come up against you.

23 And the servants of the king of Aram said to him, Their god is a god of the mountains; this is why they triumphed over us; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall triumph over them.

24 And do this thing: Remove the kings, every one from his command, and put officers in their places;

25 And number for yourself an army like the army that you have lost, horse for horse and chariot for chariot; and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he hearkened to their voice, and did so.

26 And it came to pass at the beginning of the year, that Bar-hadad gave orders to the Arameans, and went up to Aphek to fight against Israel.

27 And the children of Israel were mustered and set in array against them, like two little flocks of goats; but the Arameans filled the country.

28 And a prophet of God drew near to Ahab the king of Israel, and said to him, Thus says the LORD, Because the Arameans have said, The LORD is a god of the mountains, but he is not a god of the valleys, therefore I will deliver all this great army into your hands, and you shall know that I am the LORD.

29 So they encamped, one over against the other, seven days. And on the seventh day the battle was joined; and the children of Israel slew of the Arameans a hundred thousand footmen in one day.

30 But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell upon twenty-seven thousand men that were left. And Bar-hadad fled and came into the city into an inner chamber.

31 And his servants came near and said to him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of Israel are merciful kings; let us put sackcloth upon our heads and gird ropes on our loins and go out to the king of Israel; perhaps he will spare our lives.

32 So they put sackcloth on their heads and girded ropes on their loins, and went to the king of Israel and said to him, Your servant Bar-hadad says. Let me live. And the king said, Is he still alive? He is my brother.

33 Now Bar-hadad was a soothsayer, and the men surmised and quickly caught his meaning, and they said, Behold your brother, Bar-hadad. Then he said, Go, bring him. Then Bar-hadad came forth to him; and Ahab caused him to sit with him in the chariot.

34 And Bar-hadad said to him, The cities which my father took from your father, I will restore; and I will make a market place for you in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then Ahab said, I will send you away with a covenant. So he made a covenant with him and sent him away.

35 And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his neighbor according to the word of the LORD, Strike me. But the man refused to strike him.

36 Then he said to him, Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, behold, as soon as you are departed from me, a lion shall slay you. And as soon as he departed from him, a lion found him and slew him.

37 Then he found another man and said to him, Strike me. And the man struck him, and wounded him.

38 So the prophet departed and waited for the king by the way, and disguised his face with ashes.

39 And, behold, as the king was passing by, he cried to the king and said, Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a soldier to me, and said, Keep this man; if by any means he be missing, then shall your life be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.

40 And as your servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said to him, So shall your judgment be; you yourself have decided it.

41 And ha hasted and wiped off the ashes from his face; and the king of Israel realized that he was of the prophets.

42 And he said to him, Thus says the LORD, Because you have let go out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life and your people for his people.

43 Then the king of Israel went to his house sad and displeased, and came to Samaria.

5 И опять7725 пришли7725 послы4397 и сказали:559 так говорит559 Венадад:1130 я послал7971 к тебе сказать:559 «серебро3701 твое, и золото2091 твое, и жен802 твоих, и сыновей1121 твоих отдай5414 мне»;

6 поэтому я завтра,4279 к этому времени,6256 пришлю7971 к тебе рабов5650 моих, чтобы они осмотрели2664 твой дом1004 и домы1004 служащих5650 при тебе, и все дорогое4261 для глаз5869 твоих взяли7760 в свои руки3027 и унесли.3947

7 И созвал7121 царь4428 Израильский3478 всех старейшин2205 земли776 и сказал:559 замечайте3045 и смотрите,7200 он замышляет1245 зло;7451 когда он присылал7971 ко мне за женами802 моими, и сыновьями1121 моими, и серебром3701 моим, и золотом2091 моим, я ему не отказал.4513

8 И сказали559 ему все старейшины2205 и весь народ:5971 не слушай8085 и не соглашайся.14

9 И сказал559 он послам4397 Венадада:1130 скажите559 господину113 моему царю:4428 все, о чем ты присылал7971 в первый7223 раз к рабу5650 твоему, я готов сделать,6213 а этого не могу3201 сделать.6213 И пошли3212 послы4397 и отнесли7725 ему ответ.1697

10 И прислал7971 к нему Венадад1130 сказать:559 пусть то и то сделают6213 мне боги,430 и еще больше3254 сделают,3254 если праха6083 Самарийского8111 достанет5606 по горсти8168 для всех людей,5971 идущих7272 за мною.

11 И отвечал6030 царь4428 Израильский3478 и сказал:559 скажите:1696 пусть не хвалится1984 подпоясывающийся,2296 как распоясывающийся.6605

12 Услышав8085 это слово,1697 Венадад, который пил8354 вместе с царями4428 в палатках,5521 сказал559 рабам5650 своим: осаждайте7760 город. И они осадили7760 город.5892

13 И вот, один259 пророк5030 подошел5066 к Ахаву,256 царю4428 Израильскому,3478 и сказал:559 так говорит559 Господь:3068 видишь7200 ли все это большое1419 полчище?1995 вот, Я сегодня3117 предам5414 его в руку3027 твою, чтобы ты знал,3045 что Я Господь.3068

16 И они выступили3318 в полдень.6672 Венадад1130 же напился8354 допьяна7910 в палатках5521 вместе с царями,4428 с тридцатью7970 двумя8147 царями,4428 помогавшими5826 ему.

17 И выступили3318 прежде7223 слуги5288 областных4082 начальников.8269 И послал7971 Венадад,1130 и донесли5046 ему, что люди582 вышли3318 из Самарии.8111

18 Он сказал:559 если за миром7965 вышли3318 они, то схватите8610 их живыми,2416 и если на войну4421 вышли,3318 также схватите8610 их живыми.2416

19 Вышли3318 из города5892 слуги5288 областных4082 начальников,8269 и войско2428 за310 ними.

20 И поражал5221 каждый376 противника376 своего; и побежали5127 Сирияне,758 а Израильтяне3478 погнались7291 за ними. Венадад1130 же, царь4428 Сирийский,758 спасся4422 на коне5483 с всадниками.6571

21 И вышел3318 царь4428 Израильский,3478 и взял5221 коней5483 и колесниц,7393 и произвел5221 большое1419 поражение4347 у Сириян.758

22 И подошел5066 пророк5030 к царю4428 Израильскому3478 и сказал559 ему: пойди,3212 укрепись,2388 и знай3045 и смотри,7200 что тебе делать,6213 ибо по прошествии8666 года8141 царь4428 Сирийский758 опять пойдет5927 против тебя.

23 Слуги5650 царя4428 Сирийского758 сказали559 ему: Бог430 их есть Бог430 гор,2022 поэтому они одолели2388 нас; если же мы сразимся3898 с ними на равнине,4334 то верно3808 одолеем2388 их.

24 Итак вот что сделай:6213 удали5493 царей,4428 каждого376 с места4725 его, и вместо них поставь7760 областеначальников;6346

25 и набери4487 себе войска2428 столько, сколько пало5307 у тебя, и коней,5483 сколько было коней,5483 и колесниц,7393 сколько было колесниц;7393 и сразимся3898 с ними на равнине,4334 и тогда верно одолеем2388 их. И послушался8085 он голоса6963 их и сделал6213 так.

26 По прошествии8666 года8141 Венадад1130 собрал6485 Сириян758 и выступил5927 к Афеку,663 чтобы сразиться4421 с Израилем.3478

27 Собраны6485 были6485 и сыны1121 Израилевы3478 и, взяв продовольствие,3557 пошли3212 навстречу7125 им. И расположились2583 сыны1121 Израилевы3478 станом пред ними, как бы два8147 небольшие2835 стада2835 коз,5795 а Сирияне758 наполнили4390 землю.776

28 И подошел5066 человек376 Божий,430 и сказал559 царю4428 Израильскому:3478 так говорит559 Господь:3068 за то, что Сирияне758 говорят:559 «Господь3068 есть Бог430 гор,2022 а не Бог430 долин»,6010 Я все это большое1419 полчище1995 предам5414 в руку3027 твою, чтобы вы знали,3045 что Я — Господь.3068

29 И стояли2583 станом2583 одни428 против5227 других428 семь7651 дней.3117 В седьмой7637 день3117 началась7126 битва,4421 и сыны1121 Израилевы3478 поразили5221 сто3967 тысяч505 пеших7273 Сириян758 в один259 день.3117

30 Остальные3498 убежали5127 в город5892 Афек;663 там упала5307 стена2346 на остальных3498 двадцать6242 семь7651 тысяч505 человек.376 А Венадад1130 ушел935 в город5892 и бегал5127 из одной внутренней2315 комнаты2315 в другую.2315

31 И сказали559 ему слуги5650 его: мы слышали,8085 что цари4428 дома1004 Израилева3478 цари4428 милостивые;2617 позволь нам возложить7760 вретища8242 на чресла4975 свои и веревки2256 на головы7218 свои и пойти3318 к царю4428 Израильскому;3478 может быть, он пощадит2421 жизнь5315 твою.

32 И опоясали2296 они вретищами8242 чресла4975 свои и возложили веревки2256 на головы7218 свои, и пришли935 к царю4428 Израильскому3478 и сказали:559 раб5650 твой Венадад1130 говорит:559 «пощади2421 жизнь5315 мою». Тот сказал:559 разве он жив?2416 он брат251 мой.

33 Люди582 сии приняли5172 это за5172 хороший знак5172 и поспешно4116 подхватили2480 слово из уст его и сказали:559 брат251 твой Венадад.1130 И сказал559 он: пойдите,935 приведите3947 его. И вышел3318 к нему Венадад,1130 и он посадил5927 его с собою на колесницу.4818

34 И сказал559 ему Венадад: города,5892 которые взял3947 мой отец1 у твоего отца,1 я возвращу,7725 и площади2351 ты можешь иметь7760 для себя в Дамаске,1834 как отец1 мой имел7760 в Самарии.8111 Ахав сказал: после договора1285 я отпущу7971 тебя. И, заключив3772 с ним договор,1285 отпустил7971 его.

35 Тогда один259 человек376 из сынов1121 пророческих5030 сказал559 другому,7453 по слову1697 Господа:3068 бей5221 меня. Но этот человек376 не согласился3985 бить5221 его.

36 И сказал559 ему: за то, что ты не слушаешь8085 гласа6963 Господня,3068 убьет5221 тебя лев,738 когда пойдешь1980 от меня. Он пошел3212 от него, и лев,738 встретив4672 его, убил5221 его.

37 И нашел4672 он другого312 человека,376 и сказал:559 бей5221 меня. Этот человек376 бил5221 его до того, что изранил6481 побоями.5221

38 И пошел3212 пророк5030 и предстал5975 пред царя4428 на дороге,1870 прикрыв2664 покрывалом666 глаза5869 свои.

39 Когда царь4428 проезжал5674 мимо, он закричал6817 царю4428 и сказал:559 раб5650 твой ходил3318 на сражение,4421 и вот, один человек,376 отошедший5493 в5493 сторону,5493 подвел935 ко мне человека376 и сказал:559 «стереги8104 этого человека;376 если его не станет,6485 то твоя душа5315 будет за его душу,5315 или ты должен будешь отвесить8254 талант3603 серебра».3701

40 Когда раб5650 твой занялся6213 теми и другими делами, его не369 стало.369 — И сказал559 ему царь4428 Израильский:3478 таков тебе и приговор,4941 ты сам решил.2782

41 Он тотчас4116 снял5493 покрывало666 с глаз5869 своих, и узнал5234 его царь,4428 что он из пророков.5030

42 И сказал559 ему: так говорит559 Господь:3068 за то, что ты выпустил7971 из рук3027 твоих человека,376 заклятого2764 Мною, душа5315 твоя будет вместо его души,5315 народ5971 твой вместо его народа.5971

43 И отправился3212 царь4428 Израильский3478 домой1004 встревоженный5620 и огорченный,2198 и прибыл935 в Самарию.8111

14 And Ahab said, By whom? And he said to him, By the young men and by the princes of the city. Then he said, Who shall begin the battle? And he answered, You.

17 And the young men and the princes of the city went out first; and Bar-hadad sent out men, and they told him, saying, There are men come out of Samaria.

18 And he said, Whether they have come out for peace, take them alive; or whether they have come out for war, take them alive.

22 И подошел5066 пророк5030 к царю4428 Израильскому3478 и сказал559 ему: пойди,3212 укрепись,2388 и знай3045 и смотри,7200 что тебе делать,6213 ибо по прошествии8666 года8141 царь4428 Сирийский758 опять пойдет5927 против тебя.

23 And the servants of the king of Aram said to him, Their god is a god of the mountains; this is why they triumphed over us; but let us fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall triumph over them.

23 Слуги5650 царя4428 Сирийского758 сказали559 ему: Бог430 их есть Бог430 гор,2022 поэтому они одолели2388 нас; если же мы сразимся3898 с ними на равнине,4334 то верно3808 одолеем2388 их.

24 And do this thing: Remove the kings, every one from his command, and put officers in their places;

24 Итак вот что сделай:6213 удали5493 царей,4428 каждого376 с места4725 его, и вместо них поставь7760 областеначальников;6346

25 And number for yourself an army like the army that you have lost, horse for horse and chariot for chariot; and we will fight against them in the plain, and surely we shall be stronger than they. And he hearkened to their voice, and did so.

25 и набери4487 себе войска2428 столько, сколько пало5307 у тебя, и коней,5483 сколько было коней,5483 и колесниц,7393 сколько было колесниц;7393 и сразимся3898 с ними на равнине,4334 и тогда верно одолеем2388 их. И послушался8085 он голоса6963 их и сделал6213 так.

26 And it came to pass at the beginning of the year, that Bar-hadad gave orders to the Arameans, and went up to Aphek to fight against Israel.

26 По прошествии8666 года8141 Венадад1130 собрал6485 Сириян758 и выступил5927 к Афеку,663 чтобы сразиться4421 с Израилем.3478

27 And the children of Israel were mustered and set in array against them, like two little flocks of goats; but the Arameans filled the country.

27 Собраны6485 были6485 и сыны1121 Израилевы3478 и, взяв продовольствие,3557 пошли3212 навстречу7125 им. И расположились2583 сыны1121 Израилевы3478 станом пред ними, как бы два8147 небольшие2835 стада2835 коз,5795 а Сирияне758 наполнили4390 землю.776

28 And a prophet of God drew near to Ahab the king of Israel, and said to him, Thus says the LORD, Because the Arameans have said, The LORD is a god of the mountains, but he is not a god of the valleys, therefore I will deliver all this great army into your hands, and you shall know that I am the LORD.

28 И подошел5066 человек376 Божий,430 и сказал559 царю4428 Израильскому:3478 так говорит559 Господь:3068 за то, что Сирияне758 говорят:559 «Господь3068 есть Бог430 гор,2022 а не Бог430 долин»,6010 Я все это большое1419 полчище1995 предам5414 в руку3027 твою, чтобы вы знали,3045 что Я — Господь.3068

29 So they encamped, one over against the other, seven days. And on the seventh day the battle was joined; and the children of Israel slew of the Arameans a hundred thousand footmen in one day.

29 И стояли2583 станом2583 одни428 против5227 других428 семь7651 дней.3117 В седьмой7637 день3117 началась7126 битва,4421 и сыны1121 Израилевы3478 поразили5221 сто3967 тысяч505 пеших7273 Сириян758 в один259 день.3117

30 But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; and there a wall fell upon twenty-seven thousand men that were left. And Bar-hadad fled and came into the city into an inner chamber.

31 And his servants came near and said to him, Behold now, we have heard that the kings of Israel are merciful kings; let us put sackcloth upon our heads and gird ropes on our loins and go out to the king of Israel; perhaps he will spare our lives.

31 И сказали559 ему слуги5650 его: мы слышали,8085 что цари4428 дома1004 Израилева3478 цари4428 милостивые;2617 позволь нам возложить7760 вретища8242 на чресла4975 свои и веревки2256 на головы7218 свои и пойти3318 к царю4428 Израильскому;3478 может быть, он пощадит2421 жизнь5315 твою.

32 So they put sackcloth on their heads and girded ropes on their loins, and went to the king of Israel and said to him, Your servant Bar-hadad says. Let me live. And the king said, Is he still alive? He is my brother.

32 И опоясали2296 они вретищами8242 чресла4975 свои и возложили веревки2256 на головы7218 свои, и пришли935 к царю4428 Израильскому3478 и сказали:559 раб5650 твой Венадад1130 говорит:559 «пощади2421 жизнь5315 мою». Тот сказал:559 разве он жив?2416 он брат251 мой.

33 Now Bar-hadad was a soothsayer, and the men surmised and quickly caught his meaning, and they said, Behold your brother, Bar-hadad. Then he said, Go, bring him. Then Bar-hadad came forth to him; and Ahab caused him to sit with him in the chariot.

33 Люди582 сии приняли5172 это за5172 хороший знак5172 и поспешно4116 подхватили2480 слово из уст его и сказали:559 брат251 твой Венадад.1130 И сказал559 он: пойдите,935 приведите3947 его. И вышел3318 к нему Венадад,1130 и он посадил5927 его с собою на колесницу.4818

34 And Bar-hadad said to him, The cities which my father took from your father, I will restore; and I will make a market place for you in Damascus, as my father made in Samaria. Then Ahab said, I will send you away with a covenant. So he made a covenant with him and sent him away.

34 И сказал559 ему Венадад: города,5892 которые взял3947 мой отец1 у твоего отца,1 я возвращу,7725 и площади2351 ты можешь иметь7760 для себя в Дамаске,1834 как отец1 мой имел7760 в Самарии.8111 Ахав сказал: после договора1285 я отпущу7971 тебя. И, заключив3772 с ним договор,1285 отпустил7971 его.

35 And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said to his neighbor according to the word of the LORD, Strike me. But the man refused to strike him.

35 Тогда один259 человек376 из сынов1121 пророческих5030 сказал559 другому,7453 по слову1697 Господа:3068 бей5221 меня. Но этот человек376 не согласился3985 бить5221 его.

36 Then he said to him, Because you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, behold, as soon as you are departed from me, a lion shall slay you. And as soon as he departed from him, a lion found him and slew him.

36 И сказал559 ему: за то, что ты не слушаешь8085 гласа6963 Господня,3068 убьет5221 тебя лев,738 когда пойдешь1980 от меня. Он пошел3212 от него, и лев,738 встретив4672 его, убил5221 его.

37 Then he found another man and said to him, Strike me. And the man struck him, and wounded him.

37 И нашел4672 он другого312 человека,376 и сказал:559 бей5221 меня. Этот человек376 бил5221 его до того, что изранил6481 побоями.5221

38 So the prophet departed and waited for the king by the way, and disguised his face with ashes.

38 И пошел3212 пророк5030 и предстал5975 пред царя4428 на дороге,1870 прикрыв2664 покрывалом666 глаза5869 свои.

39 And, behold, as the king was passing by, he cried to the king and said, Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and, behold, a man turned aside, and brought a soldier to me, and said, Keep this man; if by any means he be missing, then shall your life be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.

39 Когда царь4428 проезжал5674 мимо, он закричал6817 царю4428 и сказал:559 раб5650 твой ходил3318 на сражение,4421 и вот, один человек,376 отошедший5493 в5493 сторону,5493 подвел935 ко мне человека376 и сказал:559 «стереги8104 этого человека;376 если его не станет,6485 то твоя душа5315 будет за его душу,5315 или ты должен будешь отвесить8254 талант3603 серебра».3701

40 And as your servant was busy here and there, he was gone. And the king of Israel said to him, So shall your judgment be; you yourself have decided it.

40 Когда раб5650 твой занялся6213 теми и другими делами, его не369 стало.369 — И сказал559 ему царь4428 Израильский:3478 таков тебе и приговор,4941 ты сам решил.2782

41 And ha hasted and wiped off the ashes from his face; and the king of Israel realized that he was of the prophets.

41 Он тотчас4116 снял5493 покрывало666 с глаз5869 своих, и узнал5234 его царь,4428 что он из пророков.5030

42 And he said to him, Thus says the LORD, Because you have let go out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life and your people for his people.

42 И сказал559 ему: так говорит559 Господь:3068 за то, что ты выпустил7971 из рук3027 твоих человека,376 заклятого2764 Мною, душа5315 твоя будет вместо его души,5315 народ5971 твой вместо его народа.5971

43 Then the king of Israel went to his house sad and displeased, and came to Samaria.

43 И отправился3212 царь4428 Израильский3478 домой1004 встревоженный5620 и огорченный,2198 и прибыл935 в Самарию.8111
