Chapter 17

1 AND Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years but according to my word.

2 And the word of the LORD came to him, saying,

3 Depart from here and turn eastward and hide yourself by the brook of Cherith that is before the Jordan.

4 And you shall drink from the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.

5 So he went and did according to the word of the LORD; for he went and dwelt by the brook of Cherith that is before the Jordan.

6 And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.

7 But after a while the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.

8 And the word of the LORD came to him, saying,

9 Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Zidon, and dwell there; behold, I have commanded a widow there to feed you.

10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow was there gathering sticks; and he called to her and said, Bring me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her and said, Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.

12 And she said, As the LORD your God lives, I have nothing but a handful of flour in a pot and a little oil in a cruse; and, behold, I am gathering a few sticks, that I may go in and bake it for me and my son, that we may eat it and die.

13 And Elijah said to her, Fear not; go and do as you have said; but first make a little cake and bring it to me, and afterward make for yourself and your son.

14 For thus says the LORD God of Israel, The pot of flour shall not be spent, and the cruse of oil shall not diminish, until the day that the LORD sends rain upon the earth.

15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah; and she and he and her household did eat many days.

16 And the pot of flour was not spent, neither did the cruse of oil diminish, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by Elijah.

17 And it came to pass after these things that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore that there was no breath left in him.

18 And she said to Elijah, What have I done to you, O prophet of God? Are you come to me to call my trespasses to remembrance and to slay my son?

19 And Elijah said to her. Give me your son. And he took him from her bosom, and carried him up into the upper chamber where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

20 And he cried to the LORD and said, O LORD God, why hast thou also brought misfortune upon this widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

21 Then he stretched himself upon the boy three times and cried to the LORD and said, O LORD my God, let this boy's soul return to him again.

22 And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the boy returned into him again, and he revived.

23 And Elijah took the boy and brought him down from the upper chamber into the house, and delivered him to his mother; and Elijah said to her, See, your son lives.

24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now I know that you are a prophet of God and that the word of the LORD in your mouth is truth.

2 И было к нему слово1697 Господне:3068

3 пойди3212 отсюда и обратись6437 на восток6924 и скройся5641 у потока5158 Хорафа,3747 что против Иордана;3383

4 из этого потока5158 ты будешь8354 пить,8354 а воронам6158 Я повелел6680 кормить3557 тебя там.

5 И пошел3212 он и сделал6213 по слову1697 Господню;3068 пошел3212 и остался3427 у потока5158 Хорафа,3747 что против Иордана.3383

6 И вороны6158 приносили935 ему хлеб3899 и мясо1320 поутру,1242 и хлеб3899 и мясо1320 по вечеру,6153 а из потока5158 он пил.8354

7 По7093 прошествии7093 некоторого времени3117 этот поток5158 высох,3001 ибо не было дождя1653 на землю.776

8 И было к нему слово1697 Господне:3068

9 встань6965 и пойди3212 в Сарепту6886 Сидонскую,6721 и оставайся3427 там; Я повелел6680 там женщине802 вдове490 кормить3557 тебя.

10 И встал6965 он и пошел3212 в Сарепту;6886 и когда пришел935 к воротам6607 города,5892 вот, там женщина490 вдова802 собирает7197 дрова.6086 И подозвал7121 он ее и сказал:559 дай3947 мне немного4592 воды4325 в сосуде3627 напиться.8354

11 И пошла3212 она, чтобы взять;3947 а он закричал7121 вслед ей и сказал:559 возьми3947 для меня и кусок6595 хлеба3899 в руки3027 свои.

12 Она сказала:559 жив2416 Господь3068 Бог430 твой! у меня ничего нет печеного,4580 а только есть горсть43933709 муки7058 в кадке3537 и немного4592 масла8081 в кувшине;6835 и вот, я наберу7197 полена два8147 дров,6086 и пойду,935 и приготовлю6213 это для себя и для сына1121 моего; съедим398 это и умрем.4191

13 И сказал559 ей Илия:452 не бойся,3372 пойди,935 сделай,6213 что ты сказала;1697 но прежде7223 из этого сделай6213 небольшой6996 опреснок5692 для меня и принеси3318 мне; а для себя и для своего сына1121 сделаешь6213 после;314

14 ибо так говорит559 Господь3068 Бог430 Израилев:3478 мука7058 в кадке3537 не истощится,3615 и масло8081 в кувшине6835 не убудет2637 до того дня,3117 когда Господь3068 даст5414 дождь1653 на землю.127

15 И пошла3212 она и сделала6213 так, как сказал1697 Илия;452 и кормилась398 она, и он, и дом1004 ее несколько времени.3117

16 Мука7058 в кадке3537 не истощалась,3615 и масло8081 в кувшине6835 не убывало,2638 по слову1697 Господа,3068 которое Он изрек1696 чрез3027 Илию.452

17 После310 этого заболел2470 сын1121 этой женщины,802 хозяйки1172 дома,1004 и болезнь2483 его была так3966 сильна,2389 что не осталось3498 в нем дыхания.5397

18 И сказала559 она Илии:452 что мне и тебе, человек376 Божий?430 ты пришел935 ко мне напомнить2142 грехи5771 мои и умертвить4191 сына1121 моего.

19 И сказал559 он ей: дай5414 мне сына1121 твоего. И взял3947 его с рук2436 ее, и понес5927 его в горницу,5944 где он жил,3427 и положил7901 его на свою постель,4296

20 и воззвал7121 к Господу3068 и сказал:559 Господи3068 Боже430 мой! неужели Ты и вдове,490 у которой я пребываю,1481 сделаешь7489 зло,7489 умертвив4191 сына1121 ее?

21 И простершись4058 над отроком3206 трижды,79696471 он воззвал7121 к Господу3068 и сказал:559 Господи3068 Боже430 мой! да возвратится7725 душа5315 отрока3206 сего в него!

22 И услышал8085 Господь3068 голос6963 Илии,452 и возвратилась7725 душа5315 отрока3206 сего в него, и он ожил.2421

23 И взял3947 Илия452 отрока,3206 и свел3381 его из горницы5944 в дом,1004 и отдал5414 его матери517 его, и сказал559 Илия:452 смотри,7200 сын1121 твой жив.2416

24 И сказала559 та женщина802 Илии:452 теперь-то я узнала,3045 что ты человек376 Божий,430 и что слово1697 Господне3068 в устах6310 твоих истинно.571

11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her and said, Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.

12 And she said, As the LORD your God lives, I have nothing but a handful of flour in a pot and a little oil in a cruse; and, behold, I am gathering a few sticks, that I may go in and bake it for me and my son, that we may eat it and die.

13 And Elijah said to her, Fear not; go and do as you have said; but first make a little cake and bring it to me, and afterward make for yourself and your son.

13 И сказал559 ей Илия:452 не бойся,3372 пойди,935 сделай,6213 что ты сказала;1697 но прежде7223 из этого сделай6213 небольшой6996 опреснок5692 для меня и принеси3318 мне; а для себя и для своего сына1121 сделаешь6213 после;314

14 For thus says the LORD God of Israel, The pot of flour shall not be spent, and the cruse of oil shall not diminish, until the day that the LORD sends rain upon the earth.

14 ибо так говорит559 Господь3068 Бог430 Израилев:3478 мука7058 в кадке3537 не истощится,3615 и масло8081 в кувшине6835 не убудет2637 до того дня,3117 когда Господь3068 даст5414 дождь1653 на землю.127

15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah; and she and he and her household did eat many days.

17 And it came to pass after these things that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore that there was no breath left in him.

18 And she said to Elijah, What have I done to you, O prophet of God? Are you come to me to call my trespasses to remembrance and to slay my son?
