Chapter 17

1 AND Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said to Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel lives, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years but according to my word.

2 And the word of the LORD came to him, saying,

3 Depart from here and turn eastward and hide yourself by the brook of Cherith that is before the Jordan.

4 And you shall drink from the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.

5 So he went and did according to the word of the LORD; for he went and dwelt by the brook of Cherith that is before the Jordan.

6 And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.

7 But after a while the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.

8 And the word of the LORD came to him, saying,

9 Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Zidon, and dwell there; behold, I have commanded a widow there to feed you.

10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow was there gathering sticks; and he called to her and said, Bring me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her and said, Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.

12 And she said, As the LORD your God lives, I have nothing but a handful of flour in a pot and a little oil in a cruse; and, behold, I am gathering a few sticks, that I may go in and bake it for me and my son, that we may eat it and die.

13 And Elijah said to her, Fear not; go and do as you have said; but first make a little cake and bring it to me, and afterward make for yourself and your son.

14 For thus says the LORD God of Israel, The pot of flour shall not be spent, and the cruse of oil shall not diminish, until the day that the LORD sends rain upon the earth.

15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah; and she and he and her household did eat many days.

16 And the pot of flour was not spent, neither did the cruse of oil diminish, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by Elijah.

17 And it came to pass after these things that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore that there was no breath left in him.

18 And she said to Elijah, What have I done to you, O prophet of God? Are you come to me to call my trespasses to remembrance and to slay my son?

19 And Elijah said to her. Give me your son. And he took him from her bosom, and carried him up into the upper chamber where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

20 And he cried to the LORD and said, O LORD God, why hast thou also brought misfortune upon this widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

21 Then he stretched himself upon the boy three times and cried to the LORD and said, O LORD my God, let this boy's soul return to him again.

22 And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the boy returned into him again, and he revived.

23 And Elijah took the boy and brought him down from the upper chamber into the house, and delivered him to his mother; and Elijah said to her, See, your son lives.

24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now I know that you are a prophet of God and that the word of the LORD in your mouth is truth.

1 И сказал Илия Фесвитянин, из жителей Галаада, Ахаву: жив Господь Бог Израилев, пред Которым я стою, в сии годы не будет ни росы, ни дождя, разве только по моему слову.

2 И было к нему слово Господа, и сказано:

3 Поди отсюда прямо на восток, и скройся у потока Керифа, который находится подле Иордана.

4 Из этого потока ты будешь пить; а кормить тебя Я велю там воронам.

5 Он пошел и сделал по слову Господа. Пошел и стал жить у потока Керифа, который подле Иордана.

6 Вороны приносили ему хлеб и мясо поутру, также и повечеру хлеб и мясо, а пил он из потока.

7 По прошествии года этот поток высох: ибо не было дождя на земле.

8 И было к нему слово Господа, и сказано:

9 Встань, пойди в Сарепту Сидонскую и живи там: Я приказал кормить тебя там одной вдовице.

10 Он встал и пошел в Сарепту, и когда пришел к городским воротам, и вот тут одна вдовица сбирает дрова. Он подозвал ее и сказал: дай мне из сосуда немного воды напиться.

11 Она пошла, чтобы подать воды, а он кликнул ее и сказал: возьми в руки свои и кусок хлеба для меня.

12 Она сказала: жив Господь, Бог твой! у меня нет ни опреснока, а только горсть муки в кадке и немного масла в кувшине; и вот я взяла полена два дров, и пойду, приготовлю это для себя и для сына моего, съедим это, и умрем.

13 И сказал ей Илия: не бойся, пойди сделай, что ты сказала; но прежде из этого сделай небольшой опреснок для меня, и принеси мне; а для себя и для своего сына сделаешь после.

14 Ибо так говорит Господь, Бог Израилев: мука в кадке не истощится, и масло в кувшине не убудет, до того дня, когда Господь пошлет дождь на землю.

15 Она пошла и сделала так, как сказал Илия, и кормилась она, и он, и дом ее несколько дней.

16 Мука в кадке не истощалась, и масло в кувшине не убывало, по слову Господа, которое он сказал чрез Илию.

17 После сего происшествия у сей женщины, хозяйки дома, заболел сын, и болезнь его была весьма сильна, так что не оставалось в нем дыхания.

18 И сказала она Илии: что тебе до меня, человек Божий? ты пришел ко мне напомнить мои грехи, и умертвить моего сына.

19 Он сказал ей: подай мне сына твоего. И взял его из объятий ее, и понес его в горницу, где он жил, и положил его на свою постель.

20 И возвал к Господу и сказал: Господь, Боже мой! неужели Ты и вдове, у которой я живу, сделаешь зло, умертвив сына ее?

21 И потом три раза налег на отрока, и взывал к Господу, и сказал: Господь, Боже мой! возврати душу отрока сего в него.

22 И услышал Господь глас Илии, и возвратилась душа отрока сего в него, и он ожил.

23 И взял Илия отрока, и отвел его из горницы домой, и отдал его матери его, и сказал Илия: видишь, сын твой жив.

24 И сказала та женщина Илии: теперь-то я узнала, что ты человек Божий, и что слово Господа в устах твоих есть истина.

2 И было к нему слово Господа, и сказано:

3 Поди отсюда прямо на восток, и скройся у потока Керифа, который находится подле Иордана.

4 And you shall drink from the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.

4 Из этого потока ты будешь пить; а кормить тебя Я велю там воронам.

5 So he went and did according to the word of the LORD; for he went and dwelt by the brook of Cherith that is before the Jordan.

5 Он пошел и сделал по слову Господа. Пошел и стал жить у потока Керифа, который подле Иордана.

6 And the ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook.

6 Вороны приносили ему хлеб и мясо поутру, также и повечеру хлеб и мясо, а пил он из потока.

7 But after a while the brook dried up because there had been no rain in the land.

7 По прошествии года этот поток высох: ибо не было дождя на земле.

8 And the word of the LORD came to him, saying,

8 И было к нему слово Господа, и сказано:

9 Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Zidon, and dwell there; behold, I have commanded a widow there to feed you.

9 Встань, пойди в Сарепту Сидонскую и живи там: Я приказал кормить тебя там одной вдовице.

10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow was there gathering sticks; and he called to her and said, Bring me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

10 Он встал и пошел в Сарепту, и когда пришел к городским воротам, и вот тут одна вдовица сбирает дрова. Он подозвал ее и сказал: дай мне из сосуда немного воды напиться.

11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her and said, Bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.

11 Она пошла, чтобы подать воды, а он кликнул ее и сказал: возьми в руки свои и кусок хлеба для меня.

12 And she said, As the LORD your God lives, I have nothing but a handful of flour in a pot and a little oil in a cruse; and, behold, I am gathering a few sticks, that I may go in and bake it for me and my son, that we may eat it and die.

12 Она сказала: жив Господь, Бог твой! у меня нет ни опреснока, а только горсть муки в кадке и немного масла в кувшине; и вот я взяла полена два дров, и пойду, приготовлю это для себя и для сына моего, съедим это, и умрем.

13 And Elijah said to her, Fear not; go and do as you have said; but first make a little cake and bring it to me, and afterward make for yourself and your son.

13 И сказал ей Илия: не бойся, пойди сделай, что ты сказала; но прежде из этого сделай небольшой опреснок для меня, и принеси мне; а для себя и для своего сына сделаешь после.

14 For thus says the LORD God of Israel, The pot of flour shall not be spent, and the cruse of oil shall not diminish, until the day that the LORD sends rain upon the earth.

14 Ибо так говорит Господь, Бог Израилев: мука в кадке не истощится, и масло в кувшине не убудет, до того дня, когда Господь пошлет дождь на землю.

15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah; and she and he and her household did eat many days.

15 Она пошла и сделала так, как сказал Илия, и кормилась она, и он, и дом ее несколько дней.

16 And the pot of flour was not spent, neither did the cruse of oil diminish, according to the word of the LORD, which he spoke by Elijah.

16 Мука в кадке не истощалась, и масло в кувшине не убывало, по слову Господа, которое он сказал чрез Илию.

17 And it came to pass after these things that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore that there was no breath left in him.

17 После сего происшествия у сей женщины, хозяйки дома, заболел сын, и болезнь его была весьма сильна, так что не оставалось в нем дыхания.

18 And she said to Elijah, What have I done to you, O prophet of God? Are you come to me to call my trespasses to remembrance and to slay my son?

18 И сказала она Илии: что тебе до меня, человек Божий? ты пришел ко мне напомнить мои грехи, и умертвить моего сына.

21 И потом три раза налег на отрока, и взывал к Господу, и сказал: Господь, Боже мой! возврати душу отрока сего в него.

22 И услышал Господь глас Илии, и возвратилась душа отрока сего в него, и он ожил.

23 And Elijah took the boy and brought him down from the upper chamber into the house, and delivered him to his mother; and Elijah said to her, See, your son lives.

23 И взял Илия отрока, и отвел его из горницы домой, и отдал его матери его, и сказал Илия: видишь, сын твой жив.

24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now I know that you are a prophet of God and that the word of the LORD in your mouth is truth.

24 И сказала та женщина Илии: теперь-то я узнала, что ты человек Божий, и что слово Господа в устах твоих есть истина.
