Chapter 19

1 And Jehoshaphat3092 the king4428 of Judah3063 returned7725 to his house1004 in peace7965 to Jerusalem.3389

2 And Jehu3058 the son1121 of Hanani2607 the seer2374 went3318 out to meet6440 him, and said559 to king4428 Jehoshaphat,3092 Should you help5826 the ungodly,7563 and love157 them that hate8130 the LORD?3068 therefore2063 is wrath7110 on you from before6440 the LORD.3068

3 Nevertheless61 there are good2896 things1697 found4672 in you, in that you have taken1197 away1197 the groves842 out of the land,776 and have prepared3559 your heart3824 to seek1875 God.430

4 And Jehoshaphat3092 dwelled3427 at Jerusalem:3389 and he went3318 out again7725 through the people5971 from Beersheba884 to mount2022 Ephraim,669 and brought7725 them back7725 to the LORD3068 God430 of their fathers.1

5 And he set5975 judges8199 in the land776 throughout all3605 the fenced1219 cities5892 of Judah,3063 city5892 by city,5892

6 And said559 to the judges,8199 Take7200 heed7200 what4100 you do:6213 for you judge8199 not for man,120 but for the LORD,3068 who is with you in the judgment.1697 4941

7 Why now6258 let the fear6343 of the LORD3068 be on you; take heed8104 and do6213 it: for there is no369 iniquity5766 with the LORD3068 our God,430 nor respect4856 of persons,6440 nor taking4727 of gifts.7810

8 Moreover1571 in Jerusalem3389 did Jehoshaphat3092 set5975 of the Levites,3881 and of the priests,3548 and of the chief7218 of the fathers1 of Israel,3478 for the judgment4941 of the LORD,3068 and for controversies,7379 when they returned7725 to Jerusalem.3389

9 And he charged6680 them, saying,559 Thus3541 shall you do6213 in the fear3374 of the LORD,3068 faithfully,530 and with a perfect8003 heart.3824

10 And what3602 cause7379 soever shall come935 to you of your brothers251 that dwell3427 in your cities,5892 between996 blood1818 and blood,1818 between996 law8451 and commandment,4687 statutes2706 and judgments,4941 you shall even warn2094 them that they trespass816 not against the LORD,3068 and so wrath7110 come1961 on you, and on your brothers:251 this3541 do,6213 and you shall not trespass.816

11 And, behold,2009 Amariah568 the chief7218 priest3548 is over5921 you in all3605 matters1697 of the LORD;3068 and Zebadiah2069 the son1121 of Ishmael,3458 the ruler5057 of the house1004 of Judah,3063 for all3605 the king's4428 matters:1697 also the Levites3881 shall be officers7860 before6440 you. Deal6213 courageously,2388 and the LORD3068 shall be with the good.2896

1 Иосафат, иудейский царь, благополучно вернулся в свой дом в Иерусалиме.

2 Пророк Ииуй, сын Ханани, вышел навстречу Иосафату и сказал ему: «Зачем ты помогал злым людям? Почему ты любишь тех, кто ненавидит Господа? За это Господь гневается на тебя.

3 Но в твоей жизни есть и добрые дела. Ты убрал из страны столбы Ашеры и в своём сердце ты решил следовать Богу».

4 Иосафат жил в Иерусалиме, но время от времени он отправлялся в путешествие по всей Иудее, от Вирсавии до горной страны Ефрема, чтобы быть с народом и помогать людям вернуться к Господу, Богу их предков.

5 Иосафат выбрал судей в Иудее для каждого укреплённого города.

6 Иосафат сказал этим судьям: «Будьте осторожны в исполнении ваших обязанностей, так как вы судите не для людей, а для Господа. Он будет с вами, когда вы будете принимать решения.

7 Бойтесь Господа и судите беспристрастно, потому что Господь, Бог наш, справедлив. Он относится ко всем людям одинаково и не берёт денег, чтобы изменить Свои приговоры».

8 В Иерусалиме Иосафат выбрал судьями некоторых левитов, священников и вождей. Эти люди должны были улаживать тяжбы людей, живущих в Иерусалиме, руководствуясь законом Господа.

9 Царь дал им такой наказ: «Вы должны служить преданно и от всего сердца. Вы должны бояться Господа.

10 У вас будут дела об убийствах, нарушении законов и заповедей. Эти дела поступят к вам от людей, живущих в городах по всей Иудее. Во всех случаях вы должны предостерегать людей от греха против Господа. Если вы не будете служить преданно, то навлечёте гнев Господа на себя и на народ ваш. Поступайте так, и тогда не будет за вами вины.

11 Первосвященник Амария будет выносить окончательные решения во всех делах, касающихся Господа, а Зевадия, сын Измаила, вождь колена Иуды, будет ответственным за решения, касающиеся царских дел. Левиты же будут служить вам книжниками. Имейте мужество и поступайте по справедливости. Пусть Господь будет с теми, кто добросовестно исполняет свои обязанности».
