Chapter 16

1 In the six8337 and thirtieth7970 year8141 of the reign4438 of Asa609 Baasha1201 king4428 of Israel3478 came5927 up against5921 Judah,3063 and built1129 Ramah,7414 to the intent that he might let5414 none1115 go3318 out or come935 in to Asa609 king4428 of Judah.3063

2 Then Asa609 brought3318 out silver3701 and gold2091 out of the treasures214 of the house1004 of the LORD3068 and of the king's4428 house,1004 and sent7971 to Benhadad1130 king4428 of Syria,758 that dwelled3427 at Damascus,1834 saying,559

3 There is a league1285 between996 me and you, as there was between996 my father25 and your father:25 behold,2009 I have sent7971 you silver3701 and gold;2091 go,3212 break6565 your league1285 with Baasha1201 king4428 of Israel,3478 that he may depart5927 from me.

4 And Benhadad1130 listened8085 to king4428 Asa,609 and sent7971 the captains8269 of his armies2428 against413 the cities5892 of Israel;3478 and they smote5221 Ijon,5859 and Dan,1835 and Abelmaim,66 and all3605 the store4543 cities5892 of Naphtali.5321

5 And it came1961 to pass, when Baasha1201 heard8085 it, that he left2308 off building1129 of Ramah,7414 and let his work4399 cease.7673

6 Then Asa609 the king4428 took3947 all3605 Judah;3063 and they carried5375 away the stones68 of Ramah,7414 and the timber6086 thereof, with which834 Baasha1201 was building;1129 and he built1129 therewith Geba1387 and Mizpah.4709

7 And at that time6256 Hanani2607 the seer7200 came935 to Asa609 king4428 of Judah,3063 and said559 to him, Because you have relied8172 on5921 the king4428 of Syria,758 and not relied8172 on5921 the LORD3068 your God,430 therefore5921 3651 is the host2428 of the king4428 of Syria758 escaped4422 out of your hand.3027

8 Were not the Ethiopians3569 and the Lubims3864 a huge7230 host,2428 with very3966 many7235 chariots7393 and horsemen?6571 yet, because you did rely8172 on5921 the LORD,3068 he delivered5414 them into your hand.3027

9 For the eyes5869 of the LORD3068 run7751 to and fro7751 throughout the whole3605 earth,776 to show himself strong2388 in the behalf5973 of them whose heart3824 is perfect8003 toward413 him. Herein5921 you have done foolishly:5528 therefore from now on6258 you shall have3426 wars.4421

10 Then Asa609 was wroth3707 with the seer,7200 and put5414 him in a prison4115 house;1004 for he was in a rage2197 with him because5921 of this2063 thing. And Asa609 oppressed7533 some of the people5971 the same1931 time.6256

11 And, behold,2009 the acts1697 of Asa,609 first7223 and last,314 see,2009 they are written3789 in the book5612 of the kings4428 of Judah3063 and Israel.3478

12 And Asa609 in the thirty7970 and ninth8672 year8141 of his reign4438 was diseased2470 in his feet,7272 until5704 his disease2483 was exceeding4605 great: yet1571 in his disease2483 he sought1875 not to the LORD,3068 but to the physicians.7495

13 And Asa609 slept7901 with his fathers,1 and died4191 in the one259 and fortieth705 year8141 of his reign.4427

14 And they buried6912 him in his own sepulchers,6913 which834 he had made3738 for himself in the city5892 of David,1732 and laid7901 him in the bed4904 which834 was filled4390 with sweet1314 odors1314 and divers kinds2177 of spices prepared7543 by the apothecaries'4842 are:4639 and they made a very5704 3966 great1419 burning8316 for him.

1 В тридцать шестой год царствования Асы, пошел на Иудею Вааса, царь Израильский, и начал строить Раму, чтоб не позволить никому уходить от Асы, царя Иудейского, и приходить к нему.

2 Аса вынес серебро и золото из сокровищниц дома Господа и дома царского, и послал к Бенгададу, царю Сирийскому, жившему в Дамаске, и сказал:

3 Между мною и между тобою, между отцем моим и между отцем твоим всегда был союз. Вот я посылаю тебе серебро и золото: расторгни союз твой с Ваасою, царем Израильским, чтоб он отошел от меня.

4 Бенгадад послушался царя Асы, и послал начальников войск, какие у него были, против городов Израильских, и они опустошили Ийон и Дан и Авелмаим, и все запасы в городах Неффалимовых.

5 Услышав о сем, Вааса перестал строить Раму, и остановил работу свою.

6 Царь Аса собрал всех Иудеев, чтоб они вывезли из Рамы камни и деревья, которые употреблял Вааса для строения, и выстроил из них Геву и Мицфу.

7 В то время пришел Хананий прозорливец к Асе, царю Иудейскому, и сказал ему: поелику ты оперся на царя Сирийского и не возложил надежды на Господа, Бога твоего, за то войско царя Сирийского спаслось из руки твоей.

8 Не приходили ли Ефиопляне и Ливияне с большою силою и с весьма многочисленными колесницами и всадниками? Но поелику ты тогда возложил надежду на Господа, Он предал их в руку твою.

9 Ибо очи Господа обозревают всю землю, чтобы поддерживать тех, коих сердце вполне предано Ему. Безрассудно ты поступил в сем случае. За это отныне будут у тебя войны.

10 И разгневался Аса на прозорливца, и отдал его в тот дом, где колода; ибо досадовал на него за сие, но и некоторым из народа Аса наделал зла в сие время.

11 Деяния Асы, первые и последние, описаны в книге царей Иудейских и Израильских.

12 На тридцать девятом году царствования своего, Аса сделался болен ногами своими; высоко поднялась болезнь его, но он и в болезни своей прибегнул не к Господу, а к врачам.

13 И опочил Аса с отцами своими, и умер на сорок первом году царствования своего.

14 И похоронили его в гробницах его, которые он из камня иссек для себя в городе Давидовом; и положили его на одре, который наполнили благовониями и разными мастями, составленными так, как составляют масти, и сожгли для него весьма много сожигаемого.

5 Услышав о сем, Вааса перестал строить Раму, и остановил работу свою.

13 И опочил Аса с отцами своими, и умер на сорок первом году царствования своего.
