Chapter 20

1 In those1992 days3117 was Hezekiah2396 sick2470 to death.4191 And the prophet5030 Isaiah3470 the son1121 of Amoz531 came935 to him, and said559 to him, Thus3541 said559 the LORD,3068 Set your house1004 in order;6680 for you shall die,4191 and not live.2421

2 Then he turned5437 his face6440 to the wall,7023 and prayed6419 to the LORD,3068 saying,559

3 I beseech577 you, O LORD,3068 remember2142 now4994 how834 I have walked1980 before6440 you in truth571 and with a perfect8003 heart,3824 and have done6213 that which is good2896 in your sight.5869 And Hezekiah2396 wept1058 sore.1419

4 And it came1961 to pass, before3808 Isaiah3470 was gone3318 out into the middle8484 court,5892 that the word1697 of the LORD3068 came1961 to him, saying,559

5 Turn7725 again,7725 and tell559 Hezekiah2396 the captain5057 of my people,5971 Thus3541 said559 the LORD,3068 the God430 of David1732 your father,1 I have heard8085 your prayer,8605 I have seen7200 your tears:1832 behold,2005 I will heal7495 you: on the third7992 day3117 you shall go5927 up to the house1004 of the LORD.3068

6 And I will add3254 to your days3117 fifteen2568 6240 years;8141 and I will deliver5337 you and this2063 city5892 out of the hand3709 of the king4428 of Assyria;804 and I will defend1598 this city5892 for my own sake,4616 and for my servant5650 David's1732 sake.4616

7 And Isaiah3470 said,559 Take3947 a lump1690 of figs.8384 And they took3947 and laid7760 it on5921 the boil,7822 and he recovered.2421

8 And Hezekiah2396 said559 to Isaiah,3470 What4100 shall be the sign226 that the LORD3068 will heal7495 me, and that I shall go5927 up into the house1004 of the LORD3068 the third7992 day?3117

9 And Isaiah3470 said,559 This2088 sign226 shall you have of the LORD,3068 that the LORD3068 will do6213 the thing that he has spoken:1696 shall the shadow6738 go1980 forward ten6235 degrees,4609 or go7725 back7725 ten6235 degrees?4609

10 And Hezekiah2396 answered,559 It is a light7043 thing for the shadow6738 to go5186 down5186 ten6235 degrees:4609 no,3808 but let the shadow6738 return7725 backward322 ten6235 degrees.4609

11 And Isaiah3470 the prophet5030 cried7121 to the LORD:3068 and he brought7725 the shadow6738 ten6235 degrees4609 backward,322 by which834 it had gone3381 down3381 in the dial4609 of Ahaz.271

12 At that time6256 Berodachbaladan,1255 the son1121 of Baladan,1081 king4428 of Babylon,894 sent7971 letters5612 and a present4503 to Hezekiah:2396 for he had heard8085 that Hezekiah2396 had been sick.2470

13 And Hezekiah2396 listened8085 to them, and showed7200 them all3605 the house1004 of his precious5238 things, the silver,3701 and the gold,2091 and the spices,1314 and the precious2896 ointment,8081 and all3605 the house1004 of his armor,3627 and all3605 that was found4672 in his treasures:214 there was nothing3808 1697 in his house,1004 nor in all3605 his dominion,4475 that Hezekiah2396 showed7200 them not.

14 Then came935 Isaiah3470 the prophet5030 to king4428 Hezekiah,2396 and said559 to him, What4100 said559 these428 men?582 and from from where370 came935 they to you? And Hezekiah2396 said,559 They are come935 from a far7350 country,776 even from Babylon.894

15 And he said,559 What4100 have they seen7200 in your house?1004 And Hezekiah2396 answered,559 All3605 the things that are in my house1004 have they seen:7200 there is nothing1697 among my treasures214 that I have not showed7200 them.

16 And Isaiah3470 said559 to Hezekiah,2396 Hear8085 the word1697 of the LORD.3068

17 Behold,2009 the days3117 come,935 that all3605 that is in your house,1004 and that which834 your fathers1 have laid up in store686 to this2088 day,3117 shall be carried5375 into Babylon:894 nothing3808 1697 shall be left,3498 said559 the LORD.3068

18 And of your sons1121 that shall issue3318 from you, which834 you shall beget,3205 shall they take3947 away; and they shall be eunuchs5631 in the palace1964 of the king4428 of Babylon.894

19 Then said559 Hezekiah2396 to Isaiah,3470 Good2896 is the word1697 of the LORD3068 which834 you have spoken.1696 And he said,559 Is it not good, if518 peace7965 and truth571 be in my days?3117

20 And the rest3499 of the acts1697 of Hezekiah,2396 and all3605 his might,1369 and how834 he made6213 a pool,1295 and a conduit,8585 and brought935 water4325 into the city,5892 are they not written3789 in the book5612 of the chronicles1697 3117 of the kings4428 of Judah?3063

21 And Hezekiah2396 slept7901 with his fathers:1 and Manasseh4519 his son1121 reigned4427 in his stead.8478

Chapter 20

1 IN those days Hezekiah became sick to death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came to him and said to him, Thus says the LORD: Set your house in order; for you shall die, you shall not live.

2 Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, saying,

3 I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

4 And before Isaiah was gone out into the middle court, the word of the LORD came to him, saying,

5 Turn again and tell Hezekiah the ruler of my people, Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; behold, I will heal you; on the third day you shall go up to the house of the LORD.

6 And I will add to your days fifteen years; and I will deliver you and this city out of the hands of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city and deliver it for my own sake and for my servant David's sake.

7 And Isaiah said. Let them take a cake of figs and lay it on the boil and he shall recover.

8 And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, What shall be the sign that the LORD will heal me, and that I shall go up into the house of the LORD the third day?

9 And Isaiah said, This is the sign that you shall have from the LORD, that the LORD will do the thing that he has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees or backward ten degrees?

10 And Hezekiah answered, It is an easy thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees; not so, but let the shadow turn backward ten degrees.

11 And Isaiah the prophet cried to the LORD, and he brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down on the dial of Ahaz.

12 At that time Merodach-baladan, the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and presents to Hezekiah; for he had heard that Hezekiah had been sick and was healed.

13 And Hezekiah rejoiced with them, and showed them all his treasure house, the silver, the gold, the spices, the precious ointments, and all the house of his armor, and all that was found in his treasures; there was nothing in his house nor in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them.

14 Then came Isaiah the prophet to King Hezekiah and said to him, What did these men say to you? And from whence did they come to you? And Hezekiah said, They have come to me from a far country, even from Babylon.

15 And he said, What have they seen in your house? And Hezekiah answered, They have seen all the things that are in my house; I left nothing in my treasure house that I did not show them.

16 Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, Hear the word of the LORD.

17 Behold, the days are coming when all that is in your house and that which your fathers have laid up in treasure to this day shall be carried to Babylon; nothing shall be left for you, says the LORD.

18 And of your sons that shall issue from you, whom you shall beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.

19 Then Hezekiah said to Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which you have spoken. But would that peace and justice shall be in my day!

20 And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah and all his might and how he made a pool and a conduit and brought water into the city, behold, they are written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah.

21 And Hezekiah slept with his fathers; and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead.
