2 Und Elia452 ging hin3212, daß er sich7200 Ahab256 zeigete. Es war aber eine große2389 Teurung zu Samaria8111.

3 Und1004 Ahab256 rief7121 Obadja5662, seinem Hof meister. (Obadja5662 aber fürchtete3373 den HErrn3068 sehr3966.

4 Denn da Isebel348 die Propheten5030 des HErrn3068 ausrottete3772, nahm3947 Obadja5662 hundert3967 Propheten5030 und versteckte2244 sie in der Höhle4631, hie fünfzig2572 und da fünfzig, und versorgete sie mit Brot3899 und Wasser4325.)

8 Er sprach559: Ja; gehe3212 hin, sage559 deinem Herrn113: Siehe, Elia452 ist hie.

9 Er aber sprach559: Was habe2398 ich gesündiget, daß du deinen Knecht5650 willst in die Hände3027 Ahabs256 geben5414, daß er mich töte4191?

10 So wahr der HErr3068, dein GOtt430, lebet, es ist3426 kein Volk1471 noch Königreich4467, dahin mein Herr113 nicht gesandt7971 hat1245, dich zu suchen. Und wenn sie sprachen: Er2416 ist4672 nicht hie, nahm er einen Eid7650 von dem Königreich4467 und Volk1471, daß834 man559 dich nicht funden hätte.

11 Und du559 sprichst nun: Gehe3212 hin, sage559 deinem Herrn113: Siehe, Elia452 ist hie!

12 Wenn ich nun hinginge von dir, so würde dich3212 der Geist7307 des HErrn3068 wegnehmen, weiß3045 nicht wohin; und ich dann käme935 und sagte5046 es Ahab256 an und fände4672 dich nicht, so erwürgete er mich2026. Aber dein Knecht5650 fürchtet3372 den HErrn3068 von seiner Jugend5271 auf5375.

13 Ist‘s meinem Herrn113 nicht angesagt5046, was ich getan6213 habe2026, da Isebel348 die Propheten5030 des HErrn3068 erwürgete, daß ich der Propheten5030 des HErrn3068 hundert3967 versteckte2244, hie fünfzig2572 und376 da fünfzig in der Höhle4631, und versorgete sie mit Brot3899 und Wasser4325?

14 Und du559 sprichst nun: Gehe3212 hin, sage559 deinem Herrn113: Elia452 ist hie; daß er mich erwürge2026!

16 Da ging Obadja5662 hin3212 Ahab256 entgegen7125 und sagte5046 es ihm an. Und Ahab256 ging hin3212 Elia452 entgegen7125.

17 Und da Ahab256 Elia452 sah7200, sprach559 Ahab256 zu ihm: Bist du, der Israel3478 verwirret?

18 Er aber sprach559: Ich verwirre5916 Israel3478 nicht, sondern du und deines Vaters1 Haus1004, damit daß ihr des HErrn3068 Gebote4687 verlassen5800 habt und wandelt3212 Baalim1168 nach310.

19 Wohlan, so sende7971 nun hin und3967 versammle6908 zu mir das ganze Israel3478 auf702 den Berg2022 Karmel3760 und3967 die vierhundertundfünfzig2572 Propheten5030 Baals1168, auch die vierhundert702 Propheten5030 des Hains, die vom Tisch7979 Isebels348 essen398.

20 Also sandte7971 Ahab256 hinunter alle Kinder1121 Israel3478 und6908 versammelte6908 die Propheten5030 auf den Berg2022 Karmel3760.

21 Da trat5066 Elia452 zu allem Volk5971 und sprach559: Wie lange hinket ihr auf5921 beiden Seiten5587? Ist8147 der HErr3068 GOtt430, so wandelt3212 ihm nach310; ist‘s aber Baal1168, so wandelt ihm nach! Und das1697 Volk5971 antwortete6030 ihm nichts.

22 Da sprach559 Elia452 zum Volk5971: Ich bin allein überblieben ein376 Prophet5030 des HErrn3068, aber der Propheten5030 Baals1168 sind vierhundertundfünfzig Mann2572.

24 So rufet ihr an den Namen8034 eures Gottes430, und ich559 will den Namen8034 des HErrn3068 anrufen7121. Welcher GOtt430 nun mit Feuer784 antworten6030 wird, der sei GOtt430. Und das1697 ganze Volk5971 antwortete6030 und sprach7121: Das ist recht2896.

25 Und Elia452 sprach559 zu6213 den Propheten5030 Baals1168: Erwählet ihr977 einen Farren6499 und machet am ersten259, denn euer ist7760 viel7227; und rufet eures Gottes430 Namen8034 an7121 und leget kein Feuer784 dran.

26 Und sie nahmen3947 den Farren6499, den er ihnen gab5414, und richteten zu6213 und riefen7121 an den Namen8034 Baals1168 von Morgen1242 an bis an den Mittag6672 und sprachen559: Baal1168, erhöre6030 uns! Aber es war da keine369 Stimme6963 noch Antwort6030. Und sie hinkten6452 um den Altar4196, den sie gemacht hatten6213.

27 Da es nun Mittag6672 ward, spottete2048 ihrer Elia452 und6963 sprach559: Rufet laut; denn er7121 ist ein GOtt430, er dichtet7879, oder hat zu schaffen7873, oder ist über Feld1870, oder schläft3463 vielleicht194, daß er aufwache3364.

28 Und sie riefen7121 laut1419 und ritzten sich1413 mit Messern2719 und Pfriemen7420 nach ihrer Weise4941, bis daß ihr Blut1818 hernach ging.

29 Da aber der Mittag6672 vergangen war5674, weissagten5012 sie, bis daß man das Speisopfer4503 tun5927 sollte; und war da keine Stimme6963, noch Antwort6030, noch Aufmerken7182.

30 Da7495 sprach559 Elia452 zu allem Volk5971: Kommt her5066, alles Volk5971, zu mir! Und da alles Volk zu ihm trat5066, heilete er den Altar4196 des HErrn3068, der zerbrochen war2040.

31 Und452 nahm3947 zwölf6240 Steine68 nach der Zahl4557 der Stämme7626 der Kinder1121 Jakobs3290 (zu welchem das Wort1697 des HErrn3068 redete und sprach559: Du sollst Israel3478 heißen8034).

32 Und68 bauete von den Steinen einen Altar4196 im Namen8034 des HErrn3068 und1129 machte6213 um den Altar4196 her5439 eine Grube8585, zwei5429 Kornmaß2233 weit1004.

33 Und7760 richtete6186 das Holz6086 zu und559 zerstückte5408 den Farren6499 und4390 legte6186 ihn aufs Holz6086.

34 Und sprach559: Holet vier Kad Wasser voll8138 und gießet es auf das Brandopfer und auf das Holz. Und sprach559: Tut es noch einmal8027. Und sie taten es noch einmal8027. Und er sprach: Tut es zum drittenmal. Und sie taten es zum drittenmal.

35 Und4390 das Wasser4325 lief3212 um den Altar4196 her5439, und die Grube8585 ward auch voll Wassers4325.

36 Und85 da die Zeit3117 war, Speisopfer4503 zu opfern5927, trat5066 Elia452, der Prophet5030, herzu und3327 sprach559: HErr3068, GOtt430 Abrahams, Isaaks und Israels3478, laß heute kund werden, daß du GOtt430 in Israel3478 bist und ich3045 dein Knecht5650, und daß ich solches alles nach deinem Wort1697 getan6213 habe.

37 Erhöre6030 mich5437, HErr3068, erhöre mich5437, daß dies Volk5971 wisse3045, daß du, HErr3068, GOtt430 bist, daß du ihr6030 Herz3820 danach bekehrest.

38 Da fiel5307 das Feuer784 des HErrn3068 herab und fraß398 Brandopfer5930, Holz6086, Steine68 und Erde6083 und leckte3897 das Wasser4325 auf in der Grube8585.

39 Da das alles Volk5971 sah7200, fiel5307 es auf6440 sein Angesicht und sprachen559: Der HErr3068 ist GOtt430, der HErr3068 ist GOtt430!

40 Elia452 aber sprach559 zu ihnen: Greifet die Propheten5030 Baals1168, daß ihrer keiner376 entrinne4422! Und sie8610 griffen sie8610. Und Elia452 führete sie hinab3381 an den Bach5158 Kison7028 und schlachtete7819 sie daselbst.

41 Und6963 Elia452 sprach559 zu Ahab256: Zeuch hinauf5927, iß398 und trink8354; denn es rauschet, als wollte es sehr1995 regnen1653.

42 Und da Ahab256 hinaufzog zu essen398 und zu trinken8354, ging5927 Elia452 auf5927 des Karmels3760 Spitze7218 und bückte sich1457 zur Erde776 und tat7760 sein Haupt6440 zwischen seine Kniee1290.

45 Und ehe man zusah, ward der Himmel8064 schwarz6937 von Wolken5645 und Wind7307, und kam ein großer1419 Regen1653. Ahab256 aber fuhr7392 und zog3212 gen Jesreel3157.

46 Und die Hand3027 des HErrn3068 kam935 über Elia452; und er7323 gürtete8151 seine Lenden4975 und lief vor6440 Ahab256 hin, bis er kam gen Jesreel3157.

1 AND it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, show yourself to Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.

2 And Elijah went to show himself to Ahab. And there was a severe famine in Samaria.

3 And Ahab called Obadiah, who was the steward of his household. (Now Obadiah revered the LORD greatly;

4 For when Jezebel slew the prophets of God, Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)

5 And Ahab said to Obadiah, Go through the land, to all fountains of water and to all brooks; perhaps we may find grass to save the horses and mules alive, that we may not lose all the beasts.

6 So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it; Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.

7 And as Obadiah was on the way, behold, Elijah met him; and he recognized him, and fell on his face and said, Is that you, my lord Elijah?

8 And he answered him, It is I; then he said to him, Go, tell your lord, Behold, Elijah is here.

9 And Obadiah said, What sin have I committed, that you would deliver your servant into the hand of Ahab, to slay me?

10 As the LORD your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom whither my lord has not sent to seek you; and when they said, He is not here, he took an oath of the kingdoms and nations, that they had not found you.

11 And now you say to me, Go, tell your lord, Behold, Elijah is here.

12 And as soon as I am gone from you, the Spirit of the LORD will take you up and carry you whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find you, he shall slay me; but I your servant have revered the LORD from my youth.

13 Has it not been told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of God, how I took a hundred of the prophets of the LORD and hid them by fifty in a cave and fed them with bread and water?

14 And now you say to me, Go, tell your lord, Behold, Elijah is here; and he shall slay me.

15 And Elijah said, As the LORD of hosts lives, before whom I stand, I will surely show myself to him today.

16 So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told Ahab; and Ahab went to meet Elijah.

17 And when Ahab saw Elijah, Ahab said to him, Are you he who troubles Israel?

18 And Elijah said to him, I have not troubled Israel; but it is you and your father's house, in that you have forsaken the commandments of the LORD and have followed Baal.

19 Now therefore send and gather to me all Israel at mount Carmel and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty and the prophets of the idols four hundred and fifty who eat at Jezebel's table.

20 So Ahab sent to all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together to mount Carmel.

21 Then Elijah came near to all the people, and said, How long will you halt between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him, but if Baal is god, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

22 Then Elijah said, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men.

23 Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces and lay it on wood and put no fire under; and I will prepare the other bullock and cut it in pieces and lay it on wood and put no fire under it.

24 And you call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD my God; and the God who answers by fire, he is God. And all the people answered and said, You have spoken well.

25 Then Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, Choose for yourselves one bullock, and prepare it first; for you are many;

26 And they took the bullock which was given them and prepared it and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, answer us. But there was no voice nor any that answered. And they cut themselves upon the altar which they had made.

27 And when it was noon, Elijah mocked them and said, Cry with a loud voice; for he is a god; perhaps he is meditating or he is busy or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is asleep and must be awakened.

28 And they cried with a loud voice and they cut themselves after their custom with daggers and lances, until their blood gushed out upon them.

29 And when midday was past, they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, but there was no voice nor any to answer nor any to listen. Then Elijah said to the prophets of the idols, Now you can move, so that I may prepare my burnt offerings. And they moved aside.

30 And Elijah said to all the people, Come near to me. And all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down.

31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be your name;

32 And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD; and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.

33 And he put the wood in order and cut the bullock in pieces and laid it on the wood and said, Fill four jars with water and pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood.

34 And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.

35 And the water ran round about the altar; and they filled the trench also with water.

36 And at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet came near and said, O LORD God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel and that I am thy servant and that I have done all these things at thy word.

37 Answer me, O LORD, answer me, that all this people may know that thou art the LORD God and that thou hast turned their perverse heart back again.

38 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, The LORD, he is God; the LORD, he is God.

40 And Elijah said to them, Seize the prophets of Baal, and let not one of them escape. And they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon and slew them there.

41 And Elijah said to Ahab, Go up, eat and drink; for there is a rushing sound of heavy rain.

42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he bent himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees;

43 And said to his servant, Go up now, and look toward the sea. And he went up and looked, and said, There is nothing. And Elijah said to him, Go again seven times.

44 And at the seventh time, he said, Behold, there is a little cloud like a man's hand rising out of the sea. And he said to him, Go up, say to Ahab, Mount your horse, and get down before the rain stops you.

45 And while he busied himself here and there, the heavens were black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

46 And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins and ran before Ahab till he entered Jezreel.

19 Now therefore send and gather to me all Israel at mount Carmel and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty and the prophets of the idols four hundred and fifty who eat at Jezebel's table.

20 Also sandte7971 Ahab256 hinunter alle Kinder1121 Israel3478 und6908 versammelte6908 die Propheten5030 auf den Berg2022 Karmel3760.

20 So Ahab sent to all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together to mount Carmel.

21 Da trat5066 Elia452 zu allem Volk5971 und sprach559: Wie lange hinket ihr auf5921 beiden Seiten5587? Ist8147 der HErr3068 GOtt430, so wandelt3212 ihm nach310; ist‘s aber Baal1168, so wandelt ihm nach! Und das1697 Volk5971 antwortete6030 ihm nichts.

21 Then Elijah came near to all the people, and said, How long will you halt between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him, but if Baal is god, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

24 And you call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD my God; and the God who answers by fire, he is God. And all the people answered and said, You have spoken well.

25 Then Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, Choose for yourselves one bullock, and prepare it first; for you are many;

26 And they took the bullock which was given them and prepared it and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, answer us. But there was no voice nor any that answered. And they cut themselves upon the altar which they had made.

27 And when it was noon, Elijah mocked them and said, Cry with a loud voice; for he is a god; perhaps he is meditating or he is busy or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is asleep and must be awakened.

28 And they cried with a loud voice and they cut themselves after their custom with daggers and lances, until their blood gushed out upon them.

29 And when midday was past, they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, but there was no voice nor any to answer nor any to listen. Then Elijah said to the prophets of the idols, Now you can move, so that I may prepare my burnt offerings. And they moved aside.

31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be your name;

32 And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD; and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.

33 And he put the wood in order and cut the bullock in pieces and laid it on the wood and said, Fill four jars with water and pour it on the burnt offering and on the wood.

35 And the water ran round about the altar; and they filled the trench also with water.

36 And at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet came near and said, O LORD God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel and that I am thy servant and that I have done all these things at thy word.

37 Answer me, O LORD, answer me, that all this people may know that thou art the LORD God and that thou hast turned their perverse heart back again.

38 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, The LORD, he is God; the LORD, he is God.

40 And Elijah said to them, Seize the prophets of Baal, and let not one of them escape. And they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon and slew them there.

41 And Elijah said to Ahab, Go up, eat and drink; for there is a rushing sound of heavy rain.

43 And said to his servant, Go up now, and look toward the sea. And he went up and looked, and said, There is nothing. And Elijah said to him, Go again seven times.

44 And at the seventh time, he said, Behold, there is a little cloud like a man's hand rising out of the sea. And he said to him, Go up, say to Ahab, Mount your horse, and get down before the rain stops you.

45 Und ehe man zusah, ward der Himmel8064 schwarz6937 von Wolken5645 und Wind7307, und kam ein großer1419 Regen1653. Ahab256 aber fuhr7392 und zog3212 gen Jesreel3157.

45 And while he busied himself here and there, the heavens were black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

46 Und die Hand3027 des HErrn3068 kam935 über Elia452; und er7323 gürtete8151 seine Lenden4975 und lief vor6440 Ahab256 hin, bis er kam gen Jesreel3157.

46 And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins and ran before Ahab till he entered Jezreel.
